Helically corrugated sheath will not be considered.
The metallic sheath must be capable of carrying the fault currents in accordance with
IEC60865 as specified in Schedule A. For the fault current carrying capability calculation the
outer aluminium or copper foil (water barrier), if offered, shall be ignored. For the final
temperature calculation an initial conductor temperature as specified in Schedule A is to be
used. The final temperature shall be below the critical temperature of any adjacent material
as specified by the supplier of this material.
6.6 Water Barrier
-
Radial and Longitudinal
The insulated shield area must be protected against longitudinal travel of water by swelling
tapes and/or swelling powder. The conductor shall also bewater blocked to prevent the
longitudinal penetration of water along the conductor. If a wire type screen is offered, the
interstices of the copper wire must befilled with a compound providing a longitudinal water
barrier between the individual wires of the sheath. Radial water sealing shall be provided by
using a metal-PE laminate or extruded seamless corrugated Aluminium sheath. The metal
may consist of Aluminium or Copper or other approved material. If a laminated type of
design is offered, the laminate must be bonded to the polyethylene sheath. The water
barriers must fulfil the requirements of the water penetration type test as stipulated in IEC
60840:2011, Annex E. Details of water barrier components must be supplied with tender.
6.7 Over-sheath
The over-sheath must comply with IEC 60502 and IEC 60229 using high density
polyethylene or approved alternative. A conductive outer layer obtained by simultaneous
extrusion (or other approved method) with the non-conductive outer sheath shall be
provided.
7.0 Tests:
Standard Routine tests, sample type tests, selected special tests and electrical tests after installation
are to be carried out as required in IEC 60840. A cable system type test report, that is for the cable
and accessories offered, must be submitted with the tender in accordance with IEC 60840:2011
clause 12.4 Electrical type tests on complete cable systems.
7.1 Routinetests of XLPE cables
a) Partial discharge measurement
b) High-Voltage test of main insulation
c) Electrical Test of Over-sheath
d) Visual inspection
7.2 Sample tests of XLPE cables
a) Conductor examination
b) Electrical resistance of conductor
