Justification (Contd.) The current course CE 742 Pavement Systems Engineering offered to PG students in Spring semester, covers a wide range of topics from analysis of different types of pavements, design, overlay design, maintenance and rehabilitation. In addition, this course briefly covers different types of pavement materials and their characterization. This course also has a laboratory component in which different tests are to be conducted to study properties of pavement materials. Considering the length and content of this course, we are planning to split this course in two different courses: (1) Pavement Analysis, Design, and Evaluation (2) Pavement Materials and Mix Design. The course content has been revised accordingly. The proposed course on Pavement Analysis, Design, and Evaluation entirely focuses on design and analysis of different types of pavements, and their rehabilitation and maintenance strategy. Likewise, Pavement Materials and Mix Design covers different types of materials, fundamental properties, asphalt and concrete mix design, use of locally available materials. This course is expected to provide in-depth understanding of design and analysis of pavements to PG students and would prepare them as per the transportation industry and academic needs.
