LIFE OF CHRIST
Class on the
Four Gospels
Starts
September 7,
2014
9:45am
Bethany Room

If you are looking for a class to examine the
gospels and seek information on Jesus, this is
the course!

Pastor David will begin leading this course on
Sunday mornings at 9:45am in the Bethany
Room. The course is set up to use the
Synopsis of the Four Gospels, a book that
gives the reader a topical study of each story
that is written in the gospels. For Example: if a
particular story about Jesus is found in both
Matthew and Luke, the synopsis presents both
versions of the story, side by side, so they can
be read at the same time and examined. If you
would like a copy of this book, please contact
the church office. The price (discounted) is
$26.

Pastor David also uses small group discussion
and visualization of the Biblical Story in the art
of the church to encourage conversations
about the texts. The purpose of this course is
to help Christians to know Jesus Christ more
fully. To know the grace of Christ, the love of
Christ, the ways of Christ for our daily lives.
That is what we want for ourselves, our family,
our friends, and our world around us. By
carefully studying the life of Christ, it is our
hope that the Spirit of Jesus Christ may come
to live in us more fully.

BRIGHT HORIZONS DIAPER DRIVE
During the month of September, Bright
Horizons is asking our help in collecting
diapers for children in need in the community.
diapers will be collected in the large box in the
west hallway. They are especially in need of
sizes 4, 5 and 6.

What a gift I received in a
new kidney! Blessings to
the unknown donor who
gave me new life. Thank
you to everyone who sent prayers and cards.
Thank you to Jan Henning for all the meals she
provided. Praise the Lord for all He has done!

BENEFACTION BOARD HIGHLIGHTS
August 14, 2014
The St. Johns Benefaction Board approved
additional funds for storm relief in Pilger at
their August 14th meeting. The board
provided $5,000 to St. Peters for operational
costs in response to Pastor Paulas report that
the Pilger community was using the St. Peter
facility 24/7 for various needs.
The benefaction fund will also provide
$1056 to match money raised for the Norfolk
Food Pantry by VBS students in a penny war.
During the meeting, the Benefaction Board
considered seven requests and heard six
presentations on those requests. Funds were
approved for The Zone Afterschool Program,
Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska and
Mercy Meals. Nebraska Lutheran Disaster
Funds Mitch McCartney will make a
presentation at the coffee hour on Oct. 5.

AUGUST COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS
The members of St. John's Lutheran Church
are in store for a really big Sunday, Sept.

opportunity to worship that weekend to be a
part of the surprise.
Watch for future announcements
regarding "Looking Forward to the Journey",

community members to sense ownership of St
John's Lutheran Church in its programs,
ministry, vision for mission, and life together.
"Get Fired Up" is the theme for our 2014
Rally Sunday event. A special 11:00 a.m.
service will be held, followed by a noon meal.
