In supermarkets across America,
Eggos are disappearing from the shelves,
and without sufficient shipments many of
those shelves will remain empty. A
spokeswoman for Kellogg stated last
week, “We are working around the clock
to restore Eggo store inventories to normal
levels as quickly as possible.” The largest
waffle plant located in Rossville Tennes-
see was closed due to major equipment
problems and a pressing need to upgrade
the machinery.
As this paper goes out to so many
Waldorf children and parents, you may
not be familiar with the cereal giant Kel-
logg, but, to many families,
the waffles produced by
this company are the only
source of quick semi-
nutritious breakfast. The ad
campaign based around
the catch phrase ‘let go of
my Eggo’ now takes on a
deeper meaning as the na-
tion’s stocks of Eggos are
slowly depleted. The press-
ing question now is, will
shoppers turn to violence
when they can no longer satisfy their need
for toaster waffles? How long will it be
before waffles become the basis for riots.
As Kellogg continues on with no so-
lution to the problem the question is
should the government step in to take con-
trol of the lackadaisical giant? What is this
country coming to when we can’t leave
the management of something as vital as
waffle production to the private sector.

without the disaster that one miss step

developed into a big controversy
amongst the United States, after vid-

that she has gotten calls, messages
and emails from people around
America responding to her unac-
ceptable behavior. Many people are
disgusted with her actions, saying
that she has taken women's competi-
tive soccer to a whole new level of
aggressiveness.

At the 1912 Olympic games
in Stockholm, Sweden, Shizo
Kanakuri of Japan disappeared in
the middle of a marathon.
Kanakuri was classified as a
missing person for 50 years before
an inquisitive journalist found him
living comfortably in Japan, and
the story behind his disappearance
was revealed.
During the marathon, Kana-
kuri admits to having been over-
come by the heat. Exhausted and
close to unconsciousness, he
veered from the race and into a
garden party, where he reportedly
enjoyed orange juice and the hos-
pitality of the party’s host in the
shade for over an hour. After this
refreshment, Kanakuri took a train
to Stockholm before boarding a
ship to Japan
without in-

Doctor Magdi Yacoub, who did
Hannah’s original heart surgery,
came out of retirement in order to
remove the donor heart. Three years
later, Hannah is free of hospitals. No
drugs, no cancer, no complications.
“The possibility of recovery of
the heart is just like magic.” Dr.
Yacoub. “[We had] a heart which
was not contracting at all at the
time. We put the new heart to be
pumping next to it and take its work,
now [it] is functioning normally.”
This has caused a huge stir in
the medical word, and the general
population. It will hopefully help
others like Hannah in the future

test the players after they get a
concussion. Each player has
their normal brain functions
tested when they first enter the
league to get a baseline read-
ing. Then if they get a concus-
sion these brain functions are
tested again to see if their normal
brain functions have been af-
fected. Symptoms of a concus-
sion include headaches, nausea,
affected balance, and amne-
sia. If a player is still showing
symptoms of a concussion they
can not play.
These steps that are being taken
show the advancements we have
taken in our knowledge of concus-
sions. In the past if a player had a
concussion they
would normally not
tell their coaches in
fear of showing
weakness, and even
if they did tell the
coach the player
was still put in the
game most of the
time. Oakland Raiders former tight
end Tony Stewart said about his
experience with concussions, “I’ve
had times where I walked up to the
line, where I know the play, but
don’t know what to do.” Luckily
the correct steps are being taken to
keep this from happening in the
game today.

Mechanized Birth: Technology Usurping Women

Since the beginning of time
women have delivered babies. Until
relatively recently, babies were deliv-
ered mostly by older women in the
community experienced in birthing.
The culture around birth was one of
reverence, strength, and transforma-
tion. With the advent of modern tech-
nology in the 20th century, the avail-
ability of hospitals, and fear around
infant and mother mortality, birth
became a sterile process that disem-

the power of fear. With increasing
frequency, women no longer deliver
babies, doctors deliver babies.
The most telling example of how
modern technology has erased
women from the birth picture regards
cesarean sections, commonly called
c-sections. C-sections, regularly per-
formed for emergency deliveries,
involve cutting the baby out of the
mother’s uterus. In many cases, c-
sections are necessary for both the
survival of the baby and the mother.
However, the c-section rate in the
United States was around 31.8% in
2007, despite recommendations from
the World Health Organization and
United States Department of Health
that the rate should remain around
15%. The high percentage stems
from doctors’ reliance on c-sections
to deliver babies anytime the least
complication arises. One such com-
plication is when the baby is breech.
About 96% of all babies come
out head first if they are full term.
Another 3-4% are head up, or breech,
a term which relates to one’s
breeches or pants. Breech deliveries
have the potential for more complica-
tions than head first delivery. A 2000
study called The Breech Term Trial
compared women with breech babies
who planned c-sections and women
who planned vaginal breech deliver-
ies. The study concluded there was a
higher risk of infant mortality in the

planned vaginal breech deliveries.
Since that study, which was
roundly criticized for its methods and
conclusions, obstetricians and hospi-
tals have simply stopped offering
women the choice to deliver a breech
baby vaginally. Some hospitals have
policies again vaginal breech delivery
because the threat of a malpractice
lawsuit is much higher than if the hos-
pital performs a caesarean. Moreover,
medical students are no longer taught
how to deliver a breech baby, meaning
fewer and fewer doctors are qualified
to even attempt a breech delivery.
Just this past summer the Society
of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of
Canada (SOGC) issued new guide-
lines regarding breech deliveries. Re-
sponding to the practice of virtually
automatically performing c-sections
on breech babies, the SOGC recom-
mended at least offering the opportu-
nity for a vaginal breech delivery. The
problem now is training. “The evi-
dence is clear that attempting a vagi-
nal delivery is a legitimate option in
some breech pregnancies,” said Dr.
André Lalonde, Executive Vice-
President of the SOGC. “The onus is
now on us as a profession to ensure
that Canadian obstetricians have the
necessary training to offer women the
choice to deliver vaginally when pos-
sible.”
Choice. That is another serious
issue. Even if a woman chooses to
give birth a home with a midwife who
might have more experience with
vaginal breech births, in Colorado that
is not an option. Midwives are legally
barred from delivering breech babies.
That’s not true in every state, but then
again, midwives are only legal and
regulated in only 25 states. In a health-
care system where insurance dictates
choice and insurance is controlled by
money, all healthcare choices are lim-
ited depending on how much money a
person has.

ers and babies. However, the chances
of infection and complications with
future pregnancies are far greater with
c-sections than with vaginal births.
What does it say about a society
when its healthcare system is depend-
ent on technology rather than human
intelligence, when health is based on
profits, and when healthy choices are
limited by finances?

Simply put, a healthy farm is a
healthy ecosystem. Combine a bunch
of healthy ecosystems and you end
up with a much healthier planet, the

evident nowadays.
How do we know that biody-
namic farms are healthier than their
conventional counterparts?
There is enough proof in the soil
alone. Studies continually show that
biodynamic farms have healthier
soils filled with significantly higher
nutrients than conventional farms,
and depending upon the practices,
slightly higher nutrient levels than
organic farms. Vegetables and ani-
mals that are raised on nutrient
packed soils are nutrient packed
themselves, which is better for us as
eaters.
Healthier planet, healthier peo-
ple. What else could we ask for from
a farm? Well, taste of course. All
theoretical and environmental rea-
sons aside, biodynamic vegetables
simply taste better. But I’ll leave you
to figure that one out for yourself!

Tetris is a simple puzzle video
game in which you drop different
shaped blocks called
“tetrominoes” into rows to collect
points. Despite the simplicity of
the game, Tetris is an incredibly
addictive and enjoyable video-
game. The game was created in
1984 by Russian designer Alexey
Pajitnov, and has since become
one of the most renowned video-
games of all time.
The premise of Tetris is very
simple, different blocked shapes
fall from the top of the screen, the
player must rotate the piece and
move it to the left or right of the
screen guiding it to a spot on the
base of the screen where it will
come to rest. The goal of the
game is to build solid layers with
the pieces. When a layer is com-
pleted, that layer vanishes and the
layers above it fall into its place,
you want to do this because if the
pieces are allowed to reach the
top of the screen, the game ends.
This game play has proven ex-
tremely addictive and has become
an icon in the videogame world.

as we walked and rode the subway
with throngs of people. Many of
us concluded that this sense of
being a small part of a larger
whole was what made the trip so
enjoyable and set the city apart
from other places that we’ve vis-
ited as a team. Since Toronto can
provide this feeling along with
cleaner streets and friendlier peo-
ple, it is my opinion that when
compared to its Canadian counter-
part, New York seems a little too
much like New Jersey.

Twilight Saga, New Moon. If
you’ve read the book, don’t
make it worse by seeing the
movie. It was a bore. No wonder
since the book
itself failed in

rest of the series.

the names of Stuart and Orville were
about to have breakfast, but they were
out of eggs. Stuart went to the store to
buy some. When he came back, his
brother was dead. He had been mur-
dered. Stuart called the police.
When the police came, a cop by the
name of Officer Carl, took Stuart in for
questioning.
Stuart told the police that he was at
the store, the maid was making the
beds, the butler was cleaning the bath-
room, the neighbor was checking his
maid, and the cook was still sleeping.
Stuart asked the officer if he had
any more questions and Officer Carl
