Sub-taks :
1. After two days, remove the egg from the vinegar and record the circumference of the egg.
a) (i) What changes in size and shape were observed at the end of the second day?
Day Width ( cm ) Length (cm) Shape
1 13.7 16.3 Normal
2 15.8 19.4 Larger than normal

(ii) How would you account for the changes?
DAY ONE
First, I find the width and length of the egg by the string before immerse in the vinegar. Second, I record the width and
length in the appropriate data table. Third, I observe the shape of the egg and record it in the table. Then, I pour
approximately vinegar (enough to cover the egg) into one of your large beakers with the egg.
DAY TWO
I gently get the egg from the beaker with the spoon and a paper towel. Then, I gently pat the egg dry with the paper
towel. After that, I find the width, length and shape of the egg by the length again and record the in the appropriate
data table.
DAY ONE DAY TWO

b) (i) Did the contents of the egg seep out?
No
(ii) How would you explain your observation?
In my observation, the shape and size of the egg will larger than the normal size, it is because the water in the vinegar
can enter the egg through the membrane and moving from the higher water concentration in vinegar to the lower
concentration in the egg.

2. Challenge : Prepare a list of examples of diffusion and osmosis in everyday life.
Diffusion :
1. Spreading of perfume,
2. Deflating of balloon,
3. Mixing of salt or sugar in water,
4. Spreading of ink in water,
5. Oxygen diffusion in the lungs.
Osmosis :
1. Exchange of gases in between blood and tissue,
2. When your hands are immersed in dishwater for a long time, your skin looks bloated,
3. When you pour salt onto a slug, water diffuses and slug shrinks,

3. Investigate : Vegetable are kept in a special part of a the refrigerator. Do they remain fresh, crispy and firm for a
longer period of time?
The part of the vegetable will not fresh, not crispy and not firm. The part of the vegetable will not fresh because it is
losing their water when keeping a longer period of time in the refrigerator. Then, the vegetable also will not crispy
because the vegetable will be flaccid when keeping a longer period of time in the refrigerator. So that, the vegetable
will not crispy and not firm.

Reflection
Firstly thanks to the God and Jesus because I can finish this project before the due date. First of all, thanks to my
beloved lecturer, Encik Hj Che Asran Bin Md. Amin who helps me a lot to complete this assignment and explained very
detail to me about this Biology assignment.
First, I feel so shocked because I can finish my assignment in the three days only. I am so happy because this Biology
assignment has a lot of knowledge that I can learn it. By doing this project, I more knowing about the active transport,
passive transport, endocytosis, exocytosis, osmosis, diffusion and facilitated diffusion in subject Biology.
Then, all the information is get from the Internet, books, lecturers and friends. I surfing the internet about the topic.
They are a lot of the information about this topic, The Chemistry of the Cell. So, I try to finding the information and
pictures about the active transport, passive transport, endocytosis, exocytosis, osmosis, diffusion and facilitated
diffusion. Then, I pick up the important point only from the information that I get it.
Second, I also get the information from the books. The books that I search are about SPM, Matriculation and STPM. I
also used a few Biologys books as references and notes that given by Encik Asran to get the extra information. Besides,
I combine with the information that I get from the internet.
Third, I also asked my friends for helped me to give some point about the sub-tasks 1, 2 and 3. I most confused is the
sub-task 3 because the question have more than two answer. Then, I get so many opinions from my friends. After I
thinking, I conclude one answer from all the opinion.
Lastly, thanks a lot of to Encik Asran and my friends who helped me finished my assignment. Conclusion, I get so many
benefits and knowledge from doing this assignment. And then, I also knowing my strength and weakness by doing this
assignment and I will try to use my strength in other subject. Thanks.
