In Tacuaremb, they found the fossil remains of the most ancient tortoise of the country. It is in excellent condition of conservation and belongs to the Jurassic period, which has 150 million years of antiquity. Though the tests are absent that they confirm it, it would correspond to a species not known up to the moment. In the epoch of the Jurassic one, Tacuaremb was a great desert with dunes and lakes. With the centuries, the milleniums and the million years, the sands were consolidated and transformed in sandstones. Included in the rocks typical of the region this tortoise appeared, as the fingerprints of the herbivorous dinosaur that lived in the same age. The director of the museum Jorge Da Silva and the teacher Selva Kuster, who integrates the equipment of work of the Museum, they found the fossil of the tortoise. " It was in the nake sandstone, without mount, which allows to see the fossils ", and they qualified the zone as " the Jurassic Park in Uruguay ". The shell is not complete, but yes the brand that stopped in the rock before disintegrating.
IN EXHIBITION: Shell of giant Tat Mulita, fingerprints of mollusks in rocks. Fossils, representative figures of dinosaurs, semiprecious stones.
