Intro



I am like most people in the fact that I want to be
successful in my life. For me, true success is achieved
when I have success in my family, my relationships, my
health, and my finances. When I started out on my journey
for success I began to look around at people I believed to
be successful. Some of these people have achieved very
famous levels of success and are in the media all the time.
Still others are people that I personally know who will
never be famous but have achieved success in their life.


I began to study these people from all walks of life, ages,
races, backgrounds, and beliefs. I figured that if I could
somehow find what made them successful then I could
apply those same principles to my life and also achieve
success.


I soon found that there were some key ingredients that
almost all of them had in common that made them
successful. One of the main ingredients I discovered was
that all of them had created a set of success habits in their
lives. Some were aware that they had created these habits
and others werent.


As I said earlier, these people came from all walks of life.
Great athletes like Tiger Woods and Michael J ordan are
known for their attention to perfecting the little things that
make them so great. For instance, Tiger Woods will
practice his putting more than most, just like Michael
J ordan used to practice his free throws on a very consistent
basis.


Media icon Oprah Winfrey got to her position in life
because of success habits she created. These include a
strong work ethic, personal development, and by
surrounding herself with other successful people. Other

super wealthy people like Warren Buffet and the Google
Guys have a common thread of practicing success habits
daily. All you have to do is read up on them to figure this
out.


Of course, its easy to look at these people and pick out
some of the reasons why they are successful. Often times
though, it can become discouraging to look at these people
because they can be hard to identify with.


So I began to look at average everyday people that were
around me who had accomplished certain kinds of success
in their lives. I asked people whom I knew had raised
successful children. In todays time its uncommon to find
successful parents. I began to pay attention to co-workers
and others who were successful on their job. I even studied
high school and college students who were successful in
their studies.


Amazingly, they all had one common thread among them;
they had all created success habits in their lives. It didnt
matter how smart or educated they were, how skilled or
talented, or if they had been born into a wealthy family or
in the projects. They had all discovered a major success
principle: successful habits will guide you to success.


So, one day it hit me that if I were to create success
habits centered around what I wanted to be successful at in
life, then I too, would be able to become successful at
whatever I put my hand to.


This book is dedicated to showing you 4 simple steps to
help you create success habits in your life so that you can
also become successful at whatever you put your hand to.

What Kind of Habits Are In Your
Life?


When it comes to creating habits, most people act like its
the hardest thing in the world to do. You may identify with
this yourself. You might have tried to create better habits in
your life to find that only a week or two later, you were
right back where you started. It becomes discouraging
when you try to create a habit that you know will benefit
you but you can never seem to actually develop that habit
into something long term.


But in reality, habits are not hard to create. J ust look at
your life and examine the habits that you have right now.
What time do you always wake up? What is your routine
when you walk in the door from work? What shows on
T.V. have you rearranged your schedule around so that you
can always watch them? You already have multiple habits
that are operating in your life. The question is, what kind of
habits are they? Are they habits that create success in your
life or are they habits that just keep you going from day to
day?


So if its not hard to create habits why does it seem that
you can never create the habits you want in your
life? Well, think about this a moment. Think of one habit
that you have in your life. Are you thinking of it? Now
think back to how you started that habit. Most likely it
didnt start overnight but instead, it was a process that
eventually led you to where you are right now. You see, the
reason why you, along with most of the world, find it hard
to create new habits in your life is because you try to
change everything overnight.


In the following chapters I will show you how to create
success habits in your life in a way that will help you

ease into it. This will prevent you from always getting
discouraged because you keep failing to create the habits
that you want in your life.

Identify



The first thing that you need to do is identify, in detail,
what goals you have in your life and why. This is the first
mistake that most people make. If you dont have a clear
understanding of what you want, and why you want it, you
will never know if you are achieving your goals and habits
in life.


Before we go any further, get a pen and a piece of paper.
You will need to write a few things down.


Ok, now that you have a pen and paper, take a few minutes
to write down some of the success habits and/or goals that
you want in your life. For instance, attaining a healthier
lifestyle, more time in the day, spending more quality time
with your family, increasing your finances, stopping
smoking, or starting your own business.


Now that you have these written down, go back through
them and rank them in order of importance. So, if stopping
smoking is more important to you than having more time in
the day, give stopping smoking a 1 and having more time
in the day a 2.


After you are done ranking your goals, its time to get
specific. Many people dont succeed in life because they
have non-specific goals. So, if one of your goals is to
loose weight, be more specific and write down how much
weight you want to loose. Or if one of your goals is to
make more money, how much more do you want to make.
We will fine-tune this later on.

Now you need to move on to WHY you want to achieve
these goals. This step is easily overlooked because it seems
like this would be very obvious. However, more people
have failed to achieve their goals simply because they
either didnt have a clear WHY or their WHY wasnt
big enough. To simply state that the reason you want to
loose weight is so that you can feel better is not enough.
Your WHY needs to provoke an emotional response from
you. For instance, some of the reasons you may want to
loose weight could be as follows:


If I dont loose weight I have a higher risk of getting
diabetes


I want to be able to keep up with my kids and be at all
of their events, but if I stay over-weight, it will prevent
me from doing so


Staying over-weight is bad for my body and could lead
to high cholesterol, circulatory problems, heart attacks,
and maybe even early death


I want to live a long life and live it to its fullest
but being over-weight is stopping me from doing so


Now can you see how much different this is than just
saying that you want to lose weight? With a list this
compelling, you can look at it every time you are struggling
and this will keep the reason WHY you are doing what
you are doing prioritized in your mind.


Go back through your list and write down 2-5 compelling
reasons WHY for each one of your goals. After you do
this you may need to re-rank your list because you now see
things in a better perspective.

Pick 2



Ok, now that you have written down goals that are specific,
along with a compelling WHY, its time to start creating
success habits to help you reach your goals. As I stated
earlier, many people fail because they try to change
everything all at one time. This is the biggest reason why
people can never seem to create new habits and reach their
goals in life.


Think about this for a moment in your own life. Have you
ever made a whole list of New Years resolutions that were
going to change your life for that year? You may have had
great intentions to do them, but because there were so many
of them you couldnt keep them all going. Then, because
you couldnt keep a few of them going, you got
discouraged and just gave up on all of them. The point here
is this; dont set yourself up for failure before you even
begin.


The reason to select just two goals, and succeed at them
first, is to create momentum. Let me explain. Imagine if
you were at the top of a hill and were trying to push a 2-ton
boulder so that is would start to roll down the hill. Once
you got it moving there would be no stopping it. The
problem is getting it moving. You would need so much
leverage and force to get the boulder to even budge. You
would wear yourself out, get discouraged, and probably
give up.


Now, imagine that you were on top of a tall mountain. In
your hand was a 5-pound rock. About 500 yards down that
mountain was another rock but it weighed 15 pounds. And
500 yards beyond this 15-pound rock was a fifty-pound
rock, and another 500 yards down was a 125-pound rock,

and so on, and so on until you got to that 2-ton boulder
again. So what you do is roll that 5-pound rock, which is
something you can manage, down the hill so that it hits the
15-pound rock and makes it begin to roll down the hill.
Then that rock hits the next one, and then the next one,
until the momentum and force of the chain reaction is so
great, that by the time it gets to the 2-ton boulder, there
isnt much effort given to get that boulder to start rolling
down the hill.


So, before you try to get your 2-ton goal to begin moving,
start with something much more manageable that will
create momentum in your life. And by the time you get to
your 2-ton goal, you wont have as much resistance to
accomplish it.


Now that you understand this, start off by selecting one
small and one large goal that you have written down. By
selecting one small one, you most likely will be able
complete this one before you complete the larger one and,
can therefore; move on to another smaller goal to complete.
This will create that momentum in your life so that when
you complete the large goal you can move on to another
large goal, which you will be able to complete with more
efficiency.


With these two goals, you will now begin to create small
success habits that will help you accomplish your goals
much faster without burning out.

Start Small



Starting small may seem like its going against what most
other self-help or motivational people teach. But
remember, most people fail to reach their goals because
they are far too big for them in the first place. So now that
you have the 2 goals written down that you want to
complete, its time to start implementing things in your life
to help you achieve them.


As an example, lets say that you want to wake up an hour
earlier every morning so that you can have more time to
write that book you have always wanted to write. The
reason WHY you want to write your book is because you
believe you have something to say that will help people,
and that it will be the first in a series of books that you
write. You want to sell these books so you can become a
millionaire and give your children all the privileges in life
that you think they deserve.


Thats a pretty compelling WHY if you ask me.


Now, you basically have two choices about how to
accomplish your goal of waking up an hour earlier. You
can set your alarm an hour earlier and try to get up every
morning at this new time. For some, this might work. But
for most people this is a shock to your body and after a few
days you will be absolutely exhausted and then, before you
know it, you are getting up later and later until you are no
longer getting up early at all.


The second option you have is to start with something
smaller and much more manageable. So what you could do
is set your alarm for only 5 minutes earlier than you
normally get up. The next morning, you set the alarm 5
additional minutes earlier. Now, you may be thinking that 5
minutes isnt going to help you get anything done. I

encourage you to do it and you will be surprised at what an
extra 5 minutes in the morning can do. But remember, the
point here is to create momentum.
By the end of a 5-day work week, you will be getting up 25
minutes earlier than you did at the end of last week. By the
middle of the third week, you will be getting up an hour
earlier, which is what your goal was.


By doing it this way, you are allowing your body to adjust
and cope with the change. Plus, as you continue getting up
earlier each morning, you will begin to notice how much
more you can get done and it will be an encouragement to
you. Before you know it, you will be well on your way to
finishing your book and creating the financial heritage that
you desire for your children.


Here are some other examples of how you can apply this to
different goals:


You want to stop drinking soft drinks because you
know they are bad for you and, by doing so, will also
help you lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle.
Instead of trying to stop drinking these kinds of drinks
altogether, figure out how many of these drinks you
have per week or per day. If you drink 5 per day, only
drink 4 per day for the next week. The following week,
drink only 3 per day. Keep decreasing the amount you
drink until you have reached your goal.


If your goal is to increase your income by $5,000 per
month, start by increasing it by $500 your first month.
Once you have done that, increase it by an additional
$500 so that you are now making an extra $1,000 per
month. Continue this until you reach your goal of
making an additional $5,000 per month.

Repeat the Process


Once you have reached your goal and you feel like you have
a good handle on it, move on to the next goal or habit that
you want to achieve. If you are able to reach one goal or
create one habit per month you will have created 12 success
habits or goals in a one-year period of time. J ust think about
how much your life would be affected in a positive way if
you had created 12 positive habits or goals in your life that
you didnt have the year before.
