I welcome your sagacious choice of the emerging horizon of Ghazi University to quench your quest for
knowledge and steer your way through the world of education. It is a newly established and first ever university of
D.G. Khan and you will be its pioneer batch. Despite being a new university, it has been fortunate enough to have
inherited the long lasting traditions of teaching & mentoring experience of the highly experienced faculty of its
constituent institutions.

Ghazi University is fortunate enough to have from the very infancy, the outstanding, erudite and skilled faculty
comprising 40 Ph.Ds. & 51 M.Phils in various disciplines. In a world in which change is the only norm one thing is
certain that knowledge will ever remain a key resource and will be highly sought after around the globe. The challenge
shared by tall the educational institutions is to generate and promote intellectual property and to impart proper
education and training to the youth of nation to equip the students with need based skills to enable them to cope with
the ever changing and divergent demands of the future. To materialize this aim and to enable the youth particularly the
students of under developed otherwise potentially enriched areas of D.G. Khan division to catter for the specialized
knowledge, Ghazi University is distant to play a vital role. To educate and facilitate the students, this university has
initially started seven faculties. We have undergraduate & postgraduate programs under semester system in various
dsiciplines of Arts & Humanities, Biological Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Management Sciences.

Ghazi University, God willing, is going to be a pragmatic enterprising and forward-looking seat of higher
education in future because of its strong and skilled faculty and state of the art laboratories and need-based programs of

The City - Dera Ghazi Khan

Dera Ghazi Khan is one of the most populous cities in the Southern Punjab, and it is the largest district in
Punjab in terms of area, being approximately 5,306 square miles (13,740 km2) in extent. The city was founded at the
close of the 15th century and named after Nawab Ghazi Khan Mirrani, son of Nawab Haji Khan Mirrani, a Balochi
chieftain, who had declared independence from the Langhi Dynasty Sultans of Multan. Together with two other Deras
i.e. settlements, Dera Ismail Khan and Dera Fateh Khan, it gave its name to Derajat. Derajat eventually came into the
possession of the British after the Sikh War in 1849 and was divided into two districts: Dera Ghazi Khan and Dera
Ismail Khan.
Dera Ghazi Khan was founded in 15th century by Amar a Tribal Sardar of Mirani tribe. The old city of Dera
Ghazi Khan was situated at the distance of 10 miles (16 km) towards east of the present city. In 1908, the old city was
destroyed due to flash floods from heavy rains overflowing the River Indus. The present city was established in 1910.
The city is divided into different blocks. The British Raj established colonial system in the continent and declared Dera
Ghazi Khan as district in the year 1849. General Courtland was appointed as first Deputy Commissioner of this
District. In the year 1913, the Municipal Committee came in to existence. At that time, the area of the town was very
small. Physical growth continued and now the area was about 4 square miles (10 km2). The major growth of the town
has taken place since 1947. The town has largely spread to the north and south; it could not expand to the west due to
the danger of flooding torrents such as affected the town in 1955. However, growth has also taken place in the eastern
side. Almost all of the new developments in north and east of the planned town are haphazardly built.

The development in the town from 1947 to 1958 remained slow, because of transportation and communication
facilities. Only a boat bridge on the river Indus in winter season and steamer service for summer season linked Dera
Ghazi Khan with the rest of the Punjab. Taunsa Barrage on river Indus was completed in 1953 and the pace of
development gained momentum. During the last 5 years, 72 industrial units were established. Ghazi Textile mills is
another attempt to establish a heavy industrial complex in order to raise the economic base of the town. The present
city is the finest example of the planned cities in the world. All the roads and streets of the city lead straight from the
East to the West and from the North to the South and cross one another at 90
o
. In 1982 the city was given the status of
Division. At this time the city boasts a University, a medical college, a commerce college, a technology college, five
High Schools and numerous other public and private institutions to meet the educational needs of its people. Now DG
Khan is not lagging behind in any walk of life and is emerging as one of the developed cities of the Southern Punjab.

The Ghazi University

Ghazi University was established under The Ghazi University Act 2012 by reconstituting four otherwise
independent units namely Post Graduate College D.G. Khan, College of Agriculture D.G. Khan, BZU Sub Campus
D.G. Khan, and Ghazi Khan Medical College and became functional in 2014. This university is a great blessing for the
people of Southern Punjab particularly the students of D.G. Khan which is underdeveloped but potentially rich area.
Being the first-ever Public Sector University of this Division, Ghazi University has initiated such programs as will
polish and chisel overall abilities of the students and prepare them for the skilled based and technically oriented world.
As the university is not starting from scratch and has in its faculty, highly educated, skilled and research oriented

teachers, so the university has offered various Degree and Postgraduate programs in more than thirty five disciplines.
At present, seven faculties have been launched including the faculty of Science, Arts, Management Sciences, Islamic
Learning, Medical Sciences, Agriculture, and Education. This university has a very large catchment area and will be
providing educational facilities and state of the art skills to the students of Southern Punjab especially the students of
D.G. Khan Division and its adjacent areas. Though the way to success for the newly established institutions has never
been without let and hindrance yet this university has determined to cope with the needs of the day and cater for the
educational needs of the students.

Ghazi University has inherited the bright and commendable legacy of its constituent components. The former
Postgraduate College D.G. Khan, now merged in this university, was established in 1945. It started its Maters degree
Programs in Science and Arts in 1986. Now its undergraduate and post graduate classes have been merged in this
university which has provided the University a worthwhile infrastructure as well as trained and well experienced
faculty. The D.G. Khan Sub-campus of BZU established in 2004, a leading business school in the locality of D.G.
Khan Division with a well over 500 students, has also been made the part of this university which is great asset for the
university from its very infancy. The merger of former College of Agriculture, D.G. Khan has also provided this
university a strong footing as this constituent component of Ghazi University has been making constant endeavor to
promote modern trends in agricultural technology in farming community of this area.

Given its precious educational background as mentioned above, Ghazi University is going to be a boon and a
valuable blessing for Southern Punjab especially D.G. Khan and its adjacent areas.

FACULTY OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES

Dr. Shafqat Nawaz
Professor of Soil Science / Dean

Prof. Dr. Shafqat Nawaz did his Ph.D. in Soil
Science (UAF) in 1993 and completed Post-doctorate from
University of Sussex, UK in 2007. He started his career as a
Research Officer in Saline Agriculture Project, Dept. of
Soil Science at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad in
1985 after completing his M.Sc. (Hons.) in 1984. He was an
important member of the pioneer team to establish Saline
Agriculture Research Cell, now Saline Agriculture
Research Center and played a key role in establishment of
the College of Agriculture, D.G. Khan. Considering his
contribution at College of Agriculture, D. G. Khan, he was
given the task of starting Sub-Campus University of
Agriculture, Faisalabad at Depalpur, Okara which he did
successfully. He is author of more than 59 publications in
well reputed national and international journals. He was
selected as Professor of Soil Science in 2006. He worked as
Principal, College of Agriculture, D.G. Khan in 2008.
Later, he was assigned to start a new Sub-Campus of
University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Burewala at Vehari
which he did successfully. Recently, he has been appointed
as pioneer Dean, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Ghazi
University, Dera Ghazi Khan.

FACULTY OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES

Introduction of the Faculty

Faculty of Agricultural Sciences was started in 1998 as College of Agriculture, D.G. Khan a constituent college
of University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. The faculty has been offering B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture degree program in
five major subjects: Agronomy, Agricultural Entomology, Horticulture, Plant Breeding & Genetics, and Soil Science
since its establishment. However, postgraduate classes in the subjects of Agronomy, Rural Sociology and Business
Administration (Regular) were started at the college during the academic session 2007-2008, Plant Breeding &
Genetics and Agricultural Entomology in 2008-2009, Soil and Environmental Sciences in 2010-2011, and Horticulture
in 2014-2015.

The campus is located 22 km from the city of D.G. Khan just opposite to D.G. Khan Airport where B.Sc.
(Hons.) Agriculture and M.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture classes are being taught. The faculty is equipped with analytical
laboratories along-with library and computer laboratory. The faculty is fully trained to impart education, conduct
research and perform extension services in various disciplines. Eleven sessions with B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture degree,
and four with M.Sc.(Hons.) Agriculture have been passed out from the college since its establishment. At the campus
different buildings and research farms are being developed on an area of 800 acres.

PROCEDURE TO APPLY

HAFIZ-E-QURAN TEST:
If an applicant is Hafiz-e-Quran, 20 marks will also be added in the total marks of last examination while preparing
merit after conducting/qualifying test irrespective of the fact that the candidate has attached Hafiz-e-Quran certificate
issued by any Dini Madrisa/Wafaq-ul-Madaris. The test will be held prior to display of 1
st
merit list and the list of
qualifying candidates will be forwarded by the Committee constituted for the purpose directly to the concerned
admission authorities. The additional marks will not be added who could not qualify the test.

FOR RURAL CANDIDATES:
The domicile district of a candidate will be determined from the name and place of School indicated in the Matric
Certificate. If the school is situated within the premises of a district headquarter (any district of Punjab), the candidate
will be considered as Urban. The rest of the candidates will be considered as Rural for the degree programs where
separate seats have been earmarked for rural and urban candidates.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR RESERVED SEATS:
The candidates applying for reserved seats of :-
i) ii) 'Disabled persons' should obtain prescribed certificate complete in all respects regarding
Assessment of Disability issued by the District Assessment Board of their respective Districts.
iii) Children of Overseas Pakistanis should attach National Identity Card of the Overseas Pakistanis
(NICOP) issued by NADRA in the name of father/guardian (if father not alive).
iv) the candidates applying against seats reserved for the Children of Agri. graduates, Veterinary
graduates should attach copy of degree of their father obtained from this University.
v) those applying against seats reserved for the Children of University employees (teachers and others),
should produce prescribed certificate issued by office of the Registrar.
vi) The candidates desirous to seek admission against reserved seats for nominees of other provinces should
contact the respective Department of their Government for nomination. However, they can also apply
under Evening College category without nomination.

ADMISSION ON SPORTS BASIS:
The candidates irrespective of gender seeking admission on the basis of excellence in Sports activities against
the reserved seats (where available) are required to submit separate single form alongwith documentary evidence, if
any, in addition to Open Merit form and submit in the office of the Dean. These forms are not included in the
prospectus but will be sold on demand through the Deans office on cash payment.

PROCEDURE TO APPLY FOR ADMISSION TO 'EVENING COLLEGE' PROGRAM:

The minimum eligibility condition to apply for admission under this category is the same as prescribed for Open Merit
indicated against each. The other terms, conditions and procedure to apply for Evening College are as under:
(a) all the male/female citizens of Pakistan irrespective of their domicile can apply for admission against the seats
available under Evening College category.

(b) The Punjab domiciled candidates seeking admission in Evening College should have also to apply
against Open Merit seats of day classes as a pre-requisite.

(c) a separate pink coloured application form would be required to submit for admission against each degree
programme which will be sold on demand by the candidates in addition to price of the prospectus.

(d) the entry fee in addition to normal dues which have to be deposited in lump sum before submission of application
form:-

(e) The candidates will have to pay amount of entry fee through the Bank Draft/pay order in favour of the Treasurer
of this University prepared by any scheduled bank. The draft/pay order be submitted to the office of the
Treasurer against proper receipts, before submission of application form in the Deans office. They should
attach original receipt of entry fee with the prescribed form.

(f) if the applicants are more than the number of allocated seats, the admission will be made on merit (among
themselves) to be determined on the basis of marks obtained by the respective applicants in their Intermediate
examination. Female candidates will be admitted on merit against the seats specifically reserved for them.

(g) Entry fee/dues will be refunded as per approved policy.

(h) if a candidate who submitted an application form as a day class student but could not be admitted on merit, he
can opt for seeking admission as Evening College student by submitting an application to the Dean, who after
ensuring his merit, availability of seat and obtaining bank draft of entry fee, shall submit his case to the Vice
Chancellor for approval through the Registrar office. A certificate must be accompanied with the case from the
Dean that no candidate on waiting list of Evening College category has previously been ignored. However, such
admission will be recommended after completion of admission against all the categories.

However, after completion of admission against allocated seats under Evening College category with
the candidates who applied within due date by depositing amount of entry fee/completing other admission
formalities, the University reserves the right to allow admission under Evening College category to the
candidates having higher marks who had applied earlier on open merit but could not get admission, by
allocating additional seats/adjustment of un-utilized seats under other categories and following the prescribed
procedure.

(i) the classes under the category will start functioning in the morning time and students will enjoy all the auxiliary
facilities such as medical, accommodation (if available) etc. just like other students.

Faculty of Agricultural Sciences was developed in the form of Ex College of Agriculture, D. G. Khan sub
campus University of Agriculture, Faisalabad which was established in 1998. In 2002 subjects of specialization like
Agronomy, Plant Breeding & Genetics, Agri. Entomology, Horticulture and Soil Science. However, postgraduate
classes were started stepwise in these subjects and now M. Sc. (Hons.) is being offered in all these subjects. The new

Prof. Dr. Najeeb Haider

Professor of Statistics / Dean

Dr. Najeeb Haider did his master from Bahauddin
Zakariya University, Pakistan. He earned a scholarship for
his PhD program from The Government of Pakistan. He
joined the Lancaster University (U.K.) and completed his
PhD degree in 1997. His area of specialization was:
Modeling with event history data with special reference to
residual heterogeneity.

Dr. Najeeb Haider is HEC approved Supervisor in
the area of quantitative techniques. He has a number of
publications in national and international journals. Dr.
Najeeb Haider has a total experience of
teaching/research/administration at college and university
level for about 33 years. During this period of time Dr.
Najeeb Haider has served Government Post Graduate
college as principal (2010 -2014). He also worked as a
Director Sub-Campus BZU for about one year. He became
the founding Registrar of the Ghazi University since 2014.

Department of Botany

Biology as subject at intermediate level was introduced in1945 with start of Govt. Degree College D.G. Khan.
The Department of Botany was established with the introduction of B.Sc. Classes in1973. It offers BS (4 years) and
M.Sc. Botany Program of Studies. It has highly qualified faculty with diversified research interests. The department
participates enthusiastically; in all the activities for the promotion of research in the subject everywhere in Pakistan. It
also shares its research activities with different national and international organizations to collaborative programs. The
department has the honor of successfully completing M.Sc. programs since 1997 under the examination system of B. Z.
University Multan. Department of Botany has the facilities of wire netting house, Experimental plots in the botanical
garden for the research/ practical purposes. A study of plant life in different geographic areas, especially in the
Suleiman range and Northern areas of Pakistan, is an important part of Botany program. Our graduates are serving the
nation in education sector, agriculture, forest department and various research organizations.

Department of Statistics

Statistics is a subject that speaks without barriers across time. It is a discipline that is forever opening up to us,
revealing new and fascinating truths and ideas, and helping to expand upon our knowledge in all directions. Statistics is
used in every walk of life for the collection, presentation, and summarization of information. Results are analyzed and
interpreted through statistical methods. It also enables us in modeling of real life situations. Statisticians are the back
bone of every nation for the development of its socio-economic setup. The Department of Statistics is one of the
primary departments of The Ghazi University D.G. Khan. Its initial setup was laid down on 1974. It was established to
train the students to become competent professionals and researchers and become a part in the progress of Pakistan.
The BS-Statistics program is launched afresh with highly qualified faculty members. It fulfills all the curriculum
requirements for BS (Hons.) recommended by HEC. Our teaching methods comply with international standards. This
program has been running under semester system since 2010. After BS, students are eligible for admission to MS/
M.Phil. Programme. The department is planning to start M.Phil. Statistics in near future.

Professor / Dean

He got his MA Economics degree in 1982 from
Baha-ud-Din Zakariya University, Multan, moreover he
did LLB from Alamdar Khan Law College, Multan.
After serving as officer in Habib Bank in Islamabad. He
joined Govt. College Alipur (Muzafargarh) as lecturer
in 1983. After direct selection as Assistant Professor he
served for some time in the said college. After his
promotion as Associate Professor of Economics he
joined Govt. Postgraduate College, D.G. Khan in 2000.
In 2013 he got promoted as Professor of Economics in
same institute.

Since 2000 he has been working as Head of
Department of Economics at Postgraduate College,
D.G. Khan. Recently he has joined as Dean, Faculty of
Management Sciences, Ghazi University, D.G. Khan.

The Department of Business Administration was the first department established at Sub-Campus of BZU, D.G.
Khan in 2004. Now this Department has become the part of Ghazi University. It is a leading business school in the
locality of D.G. Khan Division with more than 500 students. The goal of the department is to prepare students for a
successful management career. Since its inception, the department has endeavored to give its students an education that
enables them to face any challenge in their professional life. The faculty of the department consists of professional &
experienced teachers. The department also has adjunct faculty, consisting of senior teachers of other universities /
colleges as well as experienced executives from business and industry. All the teachers are highly committed and
motivated. The department has incomparable facilities in terms of class rooms, library and computer labs. Its complex
consists of large number of well-equipped class rooms, with latest furniture and audio-visual system. Multi Media

Dean / Project Director

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal completed his basic education
up to Matriculation in his home town. Afterwards he went to
University of Agriculture, Faisalababd (UAF) for further
education. He completed his B.Sc. Agri. Engg. from UAF in
1981 and M. Engg. degree from the Asian Institute of
Technology, Bangkok, Thailand in 1984. He earned his PhD in
Agricultural Engineering from Colorado State University, USA
in 1993 and completed his Post-Doc from University Putra
Malaysia in 2009.

Dr. Iqbal joined University of Agriculture, Faisalabad as
Lecturer in 1985 and then Assistant Professor in 1986. He was
selected as Associate professor at College of Agriculture, D.G.
Khan in 1999 and Professor in 2007. Several research papers and
reports are on his credit. He is one of the pioneer members of the
team who established College of Agriculture, D.G. Khan.
Previously, he is serving as Professor/Principal of college of
Agriculture, D.G. Khan. Currently he has been appointed as
Project Director, Ghazi University, as well as Dean, Faculty of
Education.

Sociology has been taught at Intermediate and Degree level classes in Govt. College D. G. Khan since 1972.
After start of BS-4 Year classes, B.A/ B.Sc. classes were off from this college and Sociology has been taught in BS-4

semesters. M.Sc. Sociology (evening) classes were started in
B.Z.U, Campus D.G. Khan in 2009 and M.Sc. Rural Sociology was started in Morning at Agricultural University

Professor Abdul Ghaffar

Professor of Chemistry / Dean

Professor Abdul Ghaffar earned his master degree in Chemistry from Baha-Ud-Din Zakaraiya university,
Multan in 1978. He joined department of education as lecturer in Chemistry in 1981. He was promoted to the
post of Professor of Chemistry in 2013 and joined Postgraduate College, D.G. Khan. Professor Abdul Ghaffar
has a total experience of teaching for about 33 years. Now, he has been appointed as Dean, Faculty of Arts,
Ghazi University, D.G. khan.

Department of English

The Department of English at any University has ever enjoyed a supreme worth because it imparts the
proficiency in English Language and communication skills to the students. As importance of English language is
beyond any doubt, so the responsibility of preparing the youth to cater for the challenging times and polishing their
communicative competence, rests on the shoulders of this department. Ghazi University, though newly established,
is in a sense fortunate as it is not starting from a scratch. The department of English at Ghazi University has
inherited long standing traditions and experienced and skillful faculty members of the former Postgraduate college,
now merged into Ghazi University. This department has the honor to provide this country with scintillating alumni
who are extending their services in various departments and are serving the nation. Even some of its graduates are
now the part of this department. All the members of the faculty have good experience of teaching undergraduate
and postgraduate classes. Two of its faculty members are pursuing their Ph.Ds while six are under way to complete
their M.Phil degrees.

At present, the department offers one master degree program, i.e. M.A English Language and Literature and
one undergraduate Program, i.e. English (BS-4 year) in semester system. To facilitate the students both the
programs have been started in morning as well as evening classes.
