About the Internship Program
This program was funded with Workforce Investment Act
grants provided by the Illinois Department of Commerce
and Economic Opportunity through the Chicago Cook
Workforce Partnership.
Business & Career Services, Incorporated (BCS), an
Arlington Heights, IL based job training provider, created
the Manufacturing Careers Internship Program in 2011.
BCS teams up with local manufacturers to manage this
innovative program that prepares youth for long-term career
opportunities in manufacturing. BCS has partnered with OAI
to bring this successful program to the Chicago Southland.
The Illinois workNet Center and Business and Career Services Inc.

MCIP Program Elements


A 3-week Manufacturing Boot Camp
prepares participants for the reality of
personal responsibility and accountability.
A 10-hr. OSHA Safety Training and
Certifcation.
Manufacturing Ambassadors provide
industry tours and peer-to-peer
presentations.
Selection process allows interns and
employers to meet and determine best ft.
Internship allows interns to get their feet
wet and hands dirty to see if they are
ready to start a career in manufacturing.
Industry Recognition Event helps improve
the image of manufacturing by recognizing
both the interns and the contributions of
participating employers. Past Recognition
Events have attracted over 100 parents,
teachers, counselors, potential interns
and elected offcials at the local, state and
federal level.
MCIP Goals
Recruit and create a pipeline of motivated
young adults to enter manufacturing and
manufacturing-related education and training.
Provide valuable information and experience
in manufacturing careers.
Encourage additional training and education
needed in the industry.
Expose participants to manufacturing through
paid work experience.
Enhance the image of manufacturing.

The MCIP is a turn-key program that builds and

The Manufacturing Career Internship
Program (MCIP) is an industry-driven
program designed to help employers
fnd and hire young adults interested
in manufacturing.
Opportunity to fnd and train motivated
entry-level employees.
No commitment required to hire intern
after internship.
The MCIP internship is a paid internship
no charge to employers.
BCS (as the employer of record) pays
wages to the interns and covers payroll and
liability insurance during the internship.
We cant fnd enough qualifed
workers. This program provides
a valuable pipeline of
employees.
