Writing Teacher Guided Reading Groups Individual Conferences TEAM Spelling Using spelling assessments, we find your childs developmental spelling stage.
We group students according to this developmental stage and instruct in groups. This is FLEXIBLE grouping.
Spelling practice is included in Literacy Workshop (Word Work) TEAM Spelling continued Students receive a word sort to be used in the classroom and a duplicate to be used at home for practice.
Students will have a spell check/test weekly.
Tests will not be sent home weekly.

Handwriting We use a program called Handwriting Without Tears. Children will practice writing with capital/lowercase letters and numbers using familiar terms and movements.

Mathematics Math in Focus: Singapore Math. Goals: Depth of Understanding Fluency with Skills Application of Skills Confidence in Problem Solving Mastery of Content and Mathematical Practices (aligned with Common Core State Standards) Math in Focus Concepts are introduced through hands-on experiences with manipulatives.
Students visualize the concept and represent it pictorially through models like number bonds and bar models.

Tips for Home Have a routine after school. Ex.) snack, homework, playtime before dinner. Develop responsibility Sleep! 10-11 hours each night Please do not allow children to bring toys or trading cards to school.
Birthdays We will sing Happy Birthday as a class.
You are welcome to send non-food items to school with your child, e.g., goodie bags, pencils, stickers, erasers, or donate a book to the classroom library.
Please email the date you would like to celebrate your childs birthday.
Safety All visitors, including parents, need to enter the building through the office at all times (includes morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up). Please do not try to enter through another door. Thanks for your cooperation.
