Fistly I would like to tell u STAAD is not a powerful package for finite
element analysis..ANSYS software is a much better software for
FA..!ut this software is not user friendly because of its poor "#I$graphical user interface% and suited for academic purpose & Inspite of so much limitation of FA in STAAD industry adopts it because it is user friendly and speedy&other good FA packages are 'S DYNA and A!A(#S. Modelling. )%Always connect plate in anticlockwise direction and this should be common to all plates. To see this go to *label+ where u ha,e plate orientation command.. -%Always check that the connection between members and plates should be node to node&which is the basic principal of Finite element. To ensure this after modeling go to pull down menu in STAAD and check a%Improper connected plate b%o,erlapping plate c%(heck beam to plate connecti, ity .%Dicreti/ation of plate..please mesh element of smaller si/e ..dont use )m 0)m or - m0-m element si/e Output 1efer Figure ).)2 of STAAD technical manual..I ha,e attached the document. This are the output which we get after plate analysis.Figure ).)34 ).-4 ).-) 4).-- 4).-. 4).-5 6 ).-7 e0plains these output graphically. Now if torsion guides&.area of steel will be calculated based on combination of moment <9 4<Y and <9Y..This combination is called wood and armer combination. Dood and armer combination..
