PMC Modbus instruction manual

Installation
Prerequisit : Microsoft .NET framework 1.1 sould be install before PMC Modbus! oterwise!
it doesn"t work #ro#erl$.
Unzip the file PMC modbus.zip into a target directory : PMC Modbus tool is installed.
%an&ua&e selection
By default, there is a!ailable languages : "nglish and #rench. $t installation time, the default
language is "nglish. %o select the #rench language, e&it the tool, launch francais.bat file. %hen,
'hen you launch again PMC Modbus tool, the language 'ill be in #rench.
(t)s possible to adapt the language of PMC Modbus into other language.
%o do that, you ha!e to create * file for your specific language. #or e&ample, if you 'ant to ha!e the
tool in +panish, you ha!e to copy the base,en.&ls file to base,sp.&ls file.
%hen, you ha!e to translate the sheets -label. and -error..

/hen you created the ne' language file, you ha!e to create a spanish.bat file, 'ith follo'ing
contents :
del base.&ls
copy base,sp.&ls base.&ls

%hen, 'hen you launch spanish.bat file, you 'ill ha!e the tool in +panish language.

PMC Modbus tool offer the follo'ing functions :

Connection . disconnection
%he first step to use the PMC Modbus tool is to open the connection 'ith the sla!es. %here is
possibility :
7pen a connection trough the serial port
7pen the connection trough a %CP0(P gate'ay
%he choice of connection type is done by the button :

%he serial port connection parameters are :
#ollo'ing, the a!ailable !alues for each parameter :
+peed : 8933, :;33, *:33 or <9833 bauds
Parity : =one, 7dd, "!en
2ata bits : >, 9
+top bits : *, *.?,
Ports : a!ailable serial com port on the PC
%o be able to open the communication 'ith serial port, $@@ parameters should be setup.
ClicA -connect. button to open the connection.
TCP.IP connection
%he only %CP0(P connection parameter is the gate'ay %CP0(P address.
ClicA -Connect. button to open the connection.
$t any time, you can disconnect from sla!es by clicAing -2isconnect. button. $ll transaction in progress
'ill be stopped.
(utomatic scan
PMC Modbus tool offers the automatic scan of sla!es. %he scan is done only on one Modbus 1+89?
net'orA at a time. (t means that PMC Modbus scan :
%he sla!es connected to the serial com port if connection type is -serial.
%he sla!es connected to 1+89? com port of %CP0(P gate'ay if connection type is -%CP0(P.
By default, PMC Modbus scan the sla!es from Modbus address * to 8>. Bou can change the start
address for the scan by changing the parameter -+tart address.. +o, PMC Modbus 'ill begin the scan
'ith the specified address Cin case of sla!es 'hich ha!e high Modbus address, the scan duration 'ill
be reducedD.
%o launch the scan, clicA the -start. button. %he scan taAes a long time because PMC Modbus must
test all sla!e address from * to 8>. But you can stop it at any time by clicAing the -stop. button.
"ach de!ice found are identified by his type and his modbus sla!e address. $t the bottom of the
screen, there is a progress bar to inform the user on the scan progression.
'asic measurement! date and time reset
PMC Modbus tool can display the basic measurements of all PMC de!ices. %o display the
measurement, you ha!e to :
+elect the de!ice modbus address
+elect the de!ice modbus type
ClicA -start. button
%hen, the measurements are updated e!ery second. %o stop, clicA -stop. button.
%o reset the date and time of de!ice, you ha!e to select only the de!ice type and clicA -1eset 20%.
button : all de!ice of this type connected 'ill be updated.
)eadin& re&isters
%his function allo' the user to read directly registers from a de!ice. %he user has to :
+elect de de!ice modbus address
+elect the first register address
+elect the number of registers to read
ClicA -start. button
%he register !alues are updated e!ery second. %o stop the read, clicA -stop. button.
Bou can change the register format in decimal Csigned or unsignedD, he&adecimal or binary.
0ritin& re&isters
%his function allo' the user to 'rite registers into the de!ices. %he user as to :
+elect de!ice address
+elect the first register to 'rite
+elect the number of register to 'rite
/rite each register !alue
ClicA -/rite. button
%his function is a -one shot. function. (f you 'ant to 'rite another !alue into the registers, you ha!e to
clicA again on -/rite. button.
Custom requests
%his function allo' the user to send a custom modbus re4uest to a sla!e. %he user has to :
+elect the de!ice address
+elect the modbus function code
+elect the re4uest parameter CdataD
ClicA on -+end re4uest. button
%he re4uest response is displayed into the -response. area in he&adecimal.

%his function allo' the user to ha!e an o!er!ie' of all or a part of E%+ on +epam relay. %he user has
to :
+elect the +epam type
+elect the +epam address
ClicA -start. button
%he status C3 or *D of each selected E%+ 'ill be display. %he E%+ status 'ill be updated e!ery second.
%o stop the E%+ reading, clicA -stop. button.
TC for /e#am rela$
%his function allo's the user to 'rite E%C to +epam relay. %he user has to :
+elect the +epam type
+elect the +epam address
+elect 'hich E%C to 'rite. %he button -+elect all. and -unselect all. select or unselect all E%C.
ClicA on -/rite. button
%his function is -one shot.. (f the user 'ants to 'rite E%C again, he has to clicA on -/rite button again.
E1ent table for /e#am rela$
%his function allo's the user to empty the e!ents tables of +epam relay. %he user has to :
+elect the +epam type
+elect the +epam address
+elect the e!ent table to read

%his function is -one shot.. %he selected e!ent table 'ill be completely emptied. 2ou a1e to take

%his function help you to 4uicA test the 5igilhom6+ystem installation and to !isualize the basic
readings :

+can the 5igilhom6+ystem configuration by clicAing on scan button : this 'ill build a tree 'ith
all a!ailable de!ices connected on 5igilhom6+ystem
+elect into the tree a de!ice and clicA the button start to begin the readings of basic !alues for

5ia&nostics
$t the bottom of the screen, there is counters : -=B. pollings. counter and -!alid responses. counter.
%hese counters could be used to be sure that the communication 'ith de!ices is still ali!e during the
measurement display or register reading for e&ample.
