President's Message

First and foremost, I would like to thank all of you
for the opportunity to be the President of the
Richmond Branch for the past year! I honestly
cannot believe that a year has passed and my term
will be ending. This year has truly been a great
experience for me, and for that, I thank you.
This year has been very successful for the Branch.
We have had many great meetings and events. I
would like to thank the Board for putting these
events on, and the members for continuing to attend and make them a success.
Many of you do not know this, but following the Popsicle Stick Bridge Contest
this year, we have had people contact us from across the country asking for
advice or if they could borrow something we did. Feedback like this shows that
we are doing something right, and the Branch will continue to grow on this.
As we shift into the next year, I am very excited to stay involved. The plans that
have started forming are great, and I know the Board will continue to deliver

Location: 7945 Forest Hill Avenue, Richmond, VA

When: July 24, 2013 @ 11:30 AM
Cost: $10* includes 1 PDH
* Lunch will not be provided due to time constraints and site limitations.

For ASCE's July Branch meeting, join us for a tour of the City of
Richmond's first new high school in over 40 years. Construction started
with the demolition of a city water tower, near the original Huguenot
High School, where the new high school will be built. Demolition of the
existing Huguenot High School after the completion of the new high
school is included in the project.
The scope of work includes the phased construction of an approximately
252,000 square foot high school and associated site work and athletic
facilities.

Site construction consists of approximately 52 acres, including erosion

and sediment control measures, clearing and grubbing, building pad
preparation, utilities, parking areas and driveways, bus loop, concrete
walks, areas of concrete and segmented retaining walls, track, ball
fields, fencing and other miscellaneous site work. The site work includes
driveway and parking modifications to the adjacent Thompson Middle
School. Modifications to two medians in Forest Hill Avenue are included
in the project. The project has a requirement of a minimum LEED
certification of Silver.

For the tour, we will have on-site representation from Hess Construction
(Construction Manager for site), Timmons Group (Site Design), URS
(Owner's Rep), and Metro Earthworks (Site Contractor).

Hope to see you there!
