4 (3/8-inch/0.9cm) white shirt

3/4-inch (1.9cm) gold metal shank

7/8-inch (2.2cm) square hook-and-
loop fastener
Hand-sewing needle
White sewing thread
General Instructions
1. Read materials list and instructions
before beginning.
2. Cut plastic canvas as instructed.
3. Stitch all pieces according to graphs
and instructions.
4. Form boxes by Whipstitching
fronts, backs and sides to
unstitched box bottom. Construct
lid as instructed; Overcast any
remaining unfinished edges.
5. Use hand-sewing needle and
sewing thread to attach extra
stitched plastic canvas pieces,
buttons, ribbon trims and other
embellishments.
Stitching Step by Step
1. Cut all pieces from plastic canvas
according to graphs. Also cut one
rectangle 64 holes x 30 holes for
box bottom. Carefully cut slot in
upper right corner of box front.
2. Stitch box front, back and sides;
leave box bottom unstitched. Using
gray heather and white yarns,
Whipstitch front, back, sides and
box bottom together. Using gray
heather, Overcast slot in box front.
3. Stitch lid and tie. Using forest and red
yarns, Overcast sides and point on tie;
Whipstitch top of tie to corresponding
area on front edge of lid. Using gray
heather and white yarns, Whipstitch
back edge of lid to back top edge of
box; Overcast front top edge of box.
Using gray heather yarn, Overcast
remaining edges on lid and box.
4. Stitch collar. Using silver yarn,
Overcast edges. Bend collar into
a loop. Using hand-sewing needle
and white thread throughout, attach
top corners to each other. Attach
buttons in lower corners of collar;
attach lower points of collar to box
lid and attach back bottom edge of
collar along back edge of lid. Attach
fabric rose to right lapel on lid.
5. Fold ribbon in half; thread folded
edge through slot in box front,
leaving 3/8 inch (0.9cm) protruding
for pocket handkerchief; attach
ribbon inside box. Attach remaining
shirt buttons down front, under
tie. Attach gold shank button near
bottom of box, just to left of white
stitching.
6. Attach hook-and-loop fastener to
box front and underside of tie.
