ln this couise you will iead and wiite about a vaiiety of texts conceining a iange of
fascinating and ielevant contempoiaiy issues. Couise goals include helping you

youi own independent aiguments that synthesize multiple souices.

Giading
Youi nal giade will ieect youi highest iate of sustained achievement at
the end of the teim and will not be based on an aveiage of all youi giades.
You must submit complete ist and nal diafs foi all ve essays to pass the
couise. Teie should be substantial ievision between ist and nal diafs.
One half of a leuei giade will be deducted fiom late ist diafs. One full
leuei giade will be deducted fiom late nal diafs.
Papeis that exhibit signicant eiiois of punctuation, giammai, spelling, oi
syntax (geneially, thiee oi moie eiiois pei page) iisk failing.
Students who fall behind by two nal diafs foi any ieason will automat-
ically fail the couise. Absence fiom class does not excuse late oi missing

Couise Policies
Auendance is mandatoiy. Afei foui absences you risk failing the course.
Punctuality is impoitant. Lateness of 20 minutes counts as half an absence.
Afei 40 minutes, you will be maiked absent.

mateiials to eveiy class meeting.
Keep youi mobile phones out of sight and do not suif the web duiing class.
Use the papei templates on Google Diive to compose all diafs of all essays.

Sakai and Google Diive
Oui couisewoik will be conducted online using Sakai and Google Diive. You can
access oui couise website at http://sakai.rutgers.edu and Google Diive at
http://drive.google.com.
l will post assignments, iesouices, and class announcements to Sakai. We will use
Google Diive foi all essay diafs, in-class woikshops, and peei ieview of essays.
When you complete youi papeis on Google Diive, you must also upload the nal
diafs to Sakai as le auachments so Tuinitin can piocess them. l will giade and
ietuin them to you, howevei, on Google Diive.
Check that youi Rutgeis email addiess woiks so you ieceive couise announce-
ments. Set up email foiwaiding if you piefei using a dieient account. lf you en-
countei any pioblems, please seek out help at a computei centei. Do not expect

Peei Review Woikshops
On days that ist diafs aie due, we will conduct a peei ieviewwoikshop. ln small
gioups, you will iead and comment on one anotheis papeis. lt is ciucial that you
complete youi ist diafs100 woids minimumin time foi peei ieview.
Tutoiing
Te Wiiting Centeis, located on the Livingston, Douglass, and College Avenue
campuses, piovide fiee tutoiing foi students eniolled in Wiiting Piogiam classes.
Tutoiing sessions aie scheduled on a ienewable basis foi one class peiiod pei week
foi a minimum of ve weeks. Tutoiing is highly iecommended foi all students in
Expositoiy Wiiting.
ln addition to tiaditional tutoiing, the Wiiting Centeis also oei Giammai Sup-
