AMD FX-6300 vs Intel Core i3-3220
Mini Review
AMD FX-6300 advantages
In multi-threaded programs, the AMD FX-6300 is 32% faster.
Memory performance of the microprocessor is better.
This CPU includes AES technology. This extension accelerates AES encryption and decryption,
and is beneficial if you need to protect your disk or network data.
The AMD FX-6300 incorporates FMA3 and XOP instructions, that were introduced in the recent
past. These extensions are not widely used by applications yet, however their support should
improve in future apps.
The microprocessor has FMA4 instruction set extension enabled. The FMA4 technology is only
offered on AMD CPUs, thus it may not get broad support from software vendors.
The clock multiplier on the AMD FX-6300 is not locked. The CPU can be effortlessly
overclocked on most motherboards when higher performance is desired.
The official price of the FX-6300 is lower than the price of the i3-3220.
The FX-6300 processor has 16% better price/performance ratio.
Intel Core i3-3220 advantages
Single-threaded performance of the CPU is higher.
The microprocessor features integrated HD 2500 GPU. While this graphics unit is not fast
enough to play latest games at full resolution, it can be used for casual gaming and 3D
applications.
The Intel i3-3220 is 42% more energy efficient.
FX-6300 vs i3-3220 performance comparison
The charts in the section below show performance of FX-6300 and Core i3-3220 microprocessors
in different kinds of programs. The numbers for 'Single-threaded performance' and 'Multi-threaded
performance' charts are calculated as an average of several related benchmarks, that you can find
in the "Benchmarks" tab. As such, performance in individual benchmarks may be lower or higher
than what you see in the charts on this page. The 'Overall performance' shows an average of all-
around performance benchmarks, and benchmarks, specific to each type of task. The 'Price-
performance ratio' chart displays how much more performance you will get per dollar spent. This
ratio does not take into account the cost of other system parts.

Benchmarks
System setup
Below is a complete set of AMD FX-6300 and Intel Core i3-3220 benchmarks from our CPU benchmark database. The former processor was tested on
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX motherboard with 4GB dual-channel Crucial BallistixPC3-14900 (DDR3-1866) memory, and MSI R6670 1GB GDDR5 (ATI
Radeon). The latter processor was tested on ASUS P8H61-M motherboard, that had 2 GB dual-channel Corsair CM3X1024-1333C9 DDR3 memory, and
Integrated on-chip Intel Sandy Bridge graphics.
All tests were performed at default frequency and voltage, using manufacturer's stock fan/heatsink. None of the components were overclocked.
Motherboard BIOS options were left at default settings.
The results of all benchmarks are broken into four categories: multi-threaded, single-threaded, memory intensive and graphics / gaming.

FX-6300 vs Intel Core i3-3220 graphics benchmarks
Graphics benchmarks depend on the type of integrated or discrete graphics adapter, and to less extent on the processor performance. Because these
benchmarks are synthetic, they may not truly represent gaming performance. However, they still can be used to estimate whether one processor will
perform faster or slower than another CPU in games and other 3D tasks.
Important! The processors were tested using different types of graphics adapters, that may not be suitable for comparison.
