MynameisDonDeZarnandIhavebeenveryfortunatetohavebeenemployedbytheUniversityforthepast18
years.IamaSeniorOperationsManagerforCampusDiningandIverymuchloveworkingfortheUniversityand
servingthecampuscommunity.

IapologizeforcontactingyouregardingthecurrentsituationIfindmyselfin,butI'mreallynotsurewhereelsetoturn
becauseIhavebeentoldthatIamnolongerallowedtoworkatPrincetonbecauseIamamedicalmarijuanapatient.

IhaverecentlybeengrantedamedicalmarijuanacardbytheNewJerseyDepartmentofHealthafteranearly2year
longprocess.IhavemultiplemedicalconditionswhichqualifymetoparticipateinNewJersey'smedicalmarijuana
program.IamacombatveteranoftheIraqwarandhavebeendiagnosedwithPostTraumaticStressDisorder.I
havealsobeendiagnosedwithmultiplemedicalconditionswhichaffordmeprotectionviatheAmericanswith
DisabilitiesAct.

ImadeavisittotheheadquartersoftheDepartmentofPublicSafetyonThursday,8/21inanefforttoinquireexactly
whereIwouldbeallowedtomedicatewhileworkingoncampus.Aftermeetingwith fromPublic
Safety,IwasdismayedtobeinformedthatIwouldNOTbeallowedtomedicatewhileIwasworkingmynormalshift
attheUniversityandwouldinfact,notbeallowedtoreturntomypositionatPrincetonwhileIwasparticipatingin
NewJersey'smedicalmarijuanaprogram.Iwastoldthat hadaphoneconversationwithUniversitycounseland
theybelievedIposedathreattothecampuscommunity.Themosttroublingpartofmyconversationwith
waswhenshesuggestedIshould"juststayhomeandgethighwithmyfriends".Iwonderif wouldhavemade
thatstatementtosomeonewhohadbeenprescribedanyothermedicationfromalicensedphysician.Ihavethis
entireconversationonvideotape,aswellasotherderogatoryremarksthatweremadeby and
towardsmyselfduringmyvisitwithPublicSafety.Iwouldbemorethanhappytoallowyouto
viewthistapeifyoushouldwish.MymeetingwithrepresentativesfromtheDepartmentofPublicSafetyhasonly
servedtoworsenmycurrentmedicalconditionandIhaveabsolutelynoideawhytheyhavereactedtomymedical
conditionwithsomuchhostility.

AsIstatedearlier,myonlydesireistoreturntothepositionIloveandwishtofinishmycareerin.Isincerelyhope
thereisperhapssomepossiblewaythatyouwillbeabletoassistmewiththis.AllIamaskingforistobeableto
returntothejobIlove.Ihaveanunblemishedservicerecordandconsistentlyhighperformancereviewsduringmy
18yearcareeratPrinceton.IconsidermyselftobeadedicatedUniversityemployee.Ifinditespeciallytroublingthat
PrincetonUniversityisunabletoaccommodatemydisabilitiesandtheneedforspecificmedicationsrecommendedto
mebyalicensedphysician.Iamsincerelybeggingyouforyourassistanceinhelpingmetoreturntomyjobatthe
University.
