and abound, you will be neither barren
nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our
Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks
these things is shortsighted, even to
blindness, and has forgotten that he
was cleansed from his old sins.

these things you will never fail, never
fall, never stumble, never. That's
incredible.
Our subject is fail proof living.
Living without failing. Failure in any
area of life, whether in the natural
realm or the spiritual realm has to be a
permitted response. In other words it
just can't automatically happen. We
must give our permission.
If we want to live fail proof these
are our responsibilities. God says, in
verse 5 “But also for this very reason,
giving all diligence, add to your faith…”
Now we start out with faith as reborn
children of God. But then he says add
to your faith. That's our responsibility
to add to it. Add what to it? Add
virtue, knowledge, self-control, perse-
verance, godliness, brotherly kindness,
and love. He said if we do these things
we will never, never fail.
In this short writing, I will
be talking about self-control. When
you turn around this term self-control
you are saying, in essence, control self.
It is obvious just by observation, that
there are multitudes of spirit-filled,
tongue talking. Bible-toting, faith-
believing Christians that are out of
control.
One area that God has me minis-
ter on is self-control with regards to
being overweight. Your body is a give
away because your body is always talk-
ing even when you don't open your
mouth. All you have to do is look. Just
open your eyes and see. In 1
Corinthians 9: 25-27 Paul says: “And
everyone who competes for the prize is

so often before your body is not you.

When he said, “I keep under,” he
means I keep my body under control.
Not underneath the seat or under the
couch. He means under control.
“If I add control to my
lifestyle God said I
would never stumble.”
If the Word had said, “I put under
my body,” then you would only have to
do it one time. This word keep is an
awesome word. He said, “I keep
under my body.” Well you wouldn't
have to keep anything under control
unless it had a propensity for being out
of control. If you could just put it there
you wouldn't have to deal with it any
more. But he said, “I keep it.”
Why Paul? Because all flesh (bod-
ies) want to get out from under. And,
if it gets from under, then it will drag
our spirit and soul into the same clan-

into. So I've got to keep my body
under control so it doesn't get out of
control. Everybody's body is exactly
the same because we all came from the
same sinful source. There is no good
flesh. That's why you've got to keep it
under.
So if I add control to my lifestyle

make decisions concerning your life. We have the awe-
some privilege to use our will to make choices that influ-

word choice also means the ability to recognize alternative and possi-
ble consequences, thereby enabling the selection of that which is most
desirable, admirable and honorable. There are several choices that
we make in life that are essential to our well being.

Training Center
Launches
C renshaw Christian Center will ring in the new year
with the launching of the new Apostle Frederick
Price Ministry Training Center. The school opens
on January 5th, 2010 with classes on Tuesday and Thursday
evenings, as well as on Saturday during the day. The school
offers a full-time, two year program of three trimesters per
year.
The goal of the Ministry Training Center is to
equip and train Believers who are called to the ministry of
reconciliation/restoration, as well as those who are called to
one of the fivefold ministry gifts.

An Up-Close Look At
Pastor Terry Starks

009 has certainly been an exciting year for Crenshaw Christian
Center (CCC). With all of the exhilaration from this past spring's
retirement of Apostle Frederick K.C. Price and the installation of his
son, Pastor Frederick K. Price, CCC has been almost breathless with
progressive changes.
But the excitement doesn't just stop on the West Coast-for over two
years there has been a celebration of sorts going on over on the East Coast.
CCC East had been celebrating since April 1, 2007 when Terry B. Starks took
over the pulpit as the newest pastor of the New York congregation.
In an effort to be amusing, Apostle Price pulled a pretty good April
Fools' Day prank on the New York members by declaring that CCC East was
closing its doors and moving back to California. Shocked and disappointed,
the crowd was relieved with news that not only was Apostle Price joking and
that CCC East was here to stay, but the flock had a new shepherd-Pastor
Terry Starks.
Anyone who meets Terry, 50, and his stunning wife, Lynda, 45, are
immediately mesmerized by their effervescence and charisma. I mean, this cou-
ple has it going on.
Paired with Terry's enthusiasm and passion for teaching the Word of
God, is Lynda's sophistication and attention to detail. Together, the dynamic
duo is all about taking care of kingdom business.
Like any good “coming to Jesus” story, the Terry Sparks life story
includes some hard knocks overcome by God's mercy and faithfulness. Born in
Memphis, Tennessee, Sparks grew up in a rough neighborhood, surrounded
by negative elements that are common to inner-city life. Sparks got swept up in
the fast, easy and illegal business of drug dealing. The big money he made out
on the streets afforded him a kind of high-roller lifestyle that included owning a
record label (Mega Jams Records) and luxury vehicles.
In summer of 1991, Terry met Lynda one day while driving through
town. Lynda, a Cairo, Illinois native, was working as a biology laboratory
supervisor at nearby Rhodes College. She was not at all impressed with his
flashy, hustler type vibe. But Terry was ambitious-and lucky.
“I was driving with my friends in my Lexus LS400 when I see this beau-
tiful woman in a Nissan Pulsar,” Terry energetically re-enacts the story. “I
noticed her and knew that I had to talk to her, so I backed up. I asked her 'what
are you doing in this neighborhood?'”
“That's when I asked him, 'do you know everyone in this neighborhood?'”
Lynda interjects just as emphatically.
“I told her, 'yeah, I'm the mayor',” Terry chuckles. “I wanted to make her
laugh.”
Impressed by his charm, she decided to give him her phone number.
“Yeah, he was funny,” she said with a smile as she relived the moment of their
first meeting. “I liked how persistent he was.”
Persistence paid off as the two married on February 15, 1992. But the
wedded bliss didn't last long.
Federal law-enforcement eventually caught up with Terry's drug dealing
enterprise and from 1992-93 he served time in a federal prison. In 1993, he was
transferred to a Puerto Rican prison where he stayed for one year. In 1994, he
was returned back to Tennessee to finish out his prison sentence until 1996
when he was released.
For Terry, the ordeal in Puerto Rico was what he refers to as his
“Damascus Road” experience and he gives God all the glory for it.
“I got there screaming and crying and acting up, but I praise God that He
was had me there for a reason,” Terry says.
Surrounded by Spanish-speaking Puerto Rican prison guards and a ver-
bally abusive warden, Terry found himself in a humbling and terrifying situa-
tion. He knew that he was unjustly sent to Puerto Rico, so he wrote a letter

requesting answers. That was a mistake-he
was sent to solitary confinement for 24 hours.
But we know that nothing God ever
does is a mistake.
“I was in that cell, no one spoke
English, and I was at the lowest point in my
life,” Terry recalls as the moment that
changed his life. “A little white lady-I never
got her name-came by and asked if I would
like a book. I requested a Bible. She gave me
a Good News Bible. Three days later when
I was let out of solitary, a preacher led me to
Christ and I received Jesus as my personal

While in prison, Terry meditated on
Proverbs 3:5-6 and Luke 9:23 and developed a hunger to know more and more
about how Jesus can fix the situation that he got himself into. Meanwhile, back
in Memphis, Lynda had to cope with not only being separated from her Terry,
but also had to help clean up the mess he left back in the States.
“I worked two jobs to pay everything that he had left behind…,” she stat-
ed. “…I had no one to whine or complain to so I just kept going.”
It was during this period when the young couple had their classic “com-
ing to Jesus moment” that all testimonies are built on. It was a turning point not
only in Terry's life, but also for his new bride back in Memphis. When Terry
returned back to Tennessee in 1994 to finish out his prison sentence, Lynda
learned of his spiritual transformation.
Raised in a Catholic family, Lynda's spiritual leader was her mother and
the Bible was little more than a bunch of old stories that her grandmother used
to recite to her while growing up. So after seeing the difference God was mak-
ing in her incarcerated husband's life, Lynda soon followed and was born again
in 1995.
With God now in control over both of their hearts, life for the reunited
couple began to really take off. Shortly after his release from prison in 1996,
Terry parlayed those business skills he learned during his old hustling days, into
a job as a cars sales manager.

“I was really good,” he laughs. “I rose all the way up the ranks so quickly.” n

Ministry Connections
I am currently a member of Spirit of
Faith Christian Center but have benefitted
from the Ever Increasing Faith TV ministry
and watching via Streaming Faith online.
Dr. Price, you have been my spiritual leader
since the early 1980s when I was in the mili-
tary. Through the tapes, I was able to listen
to you everyday and learn about walking by
faith.
I met you once in Maryland at a
FaithPartners breakfast. I met Dr. Michael
Freeman that same day. He was kind
enough to give me the phone number to the
church to call for directions. But I knew my
husband would think the locations were too
far so I continued to watch you on TV and
the internet. I also confessed Mark 11:24 that
there would be a church I could attend that
was closer and that my husband would also
agree to come with me.
One Sunday, I could not connect to the

heard Dr. Freeman announce that he was

my husband agreed to go with me to the
grand opening. I joined that night because I
was connecting to a ministry that I know you
approved of and would have good ground to
sow my seed in. Several weeks after I joined
Spirit of Faith Christian Center, my hus-
band confessed Jesus as his Lord and Savior
and became a member of Spirit of Faith.

Prostate Cancer

I 'm no medical scholar, but I do know there is very

little known about the prostate-the very small, albeit
important male reproductive gland. So little is known
that many don't even know how to pronounce it. It's pro-
nounced prostate, (PRA STATE) not prostrate, which
is the position you assume when you go to bed or when
you're dead.
But, as little as we do know about this gland, it
serves a very important function. Its job is to provide the
fluid that transports sperm out of males and into their
loving wives. (At least that's what it is designed to do.)
Needless to say, the prostate gets a workout. Sometimes
it also gets attacked by cancer cells. When it does, it has
a tendency to swell. The swelling is basically unde-
tectable in men. It often shows up in the form of an inter-

I hired a trainer for both my wife and I and we both lost weight by
my surgery date. The surgery was uneventful and successful, thanks be to
God. Total hospital time was three days. Home recovery time was three
to four weeks.
The aftermath is that my internal plumbing has been switched
around. I've had to learn to do the things I've been doing all my life, a dif-
ferent way. Now, you may wonder, if the gland that makes sperm is miss-
ing, what does that do to your sex life? Well, let me assure you, all's well.

Mentors Making a
Difference

S
he was the most temperamental child in
the “Let Me Tell You” Foster Theatre
Project. We all understood.
At 12 years old, she had already been in and out
of 9 foster homes. She was currently living in a
group home where she attended school. Her con-
stant concern is that she doesn't know where her
siblings are. Although she is the smallest child in
the group she demands the most attention.
Imagine my surprise when reading her note in
the thank you card I had received from the chil-
dren! While most simply signed their names-The
card said, “U R the BEST”-the child who needed
the most hugs and private talks wrote, “Thank you
for helping us.”
This is pure and undefiled religion in the sight
of our God and Father, to visit orphans and wid-
ows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained
by the world.

The “Let Me Tell You” Mentor/Foster
Theatre Project was a collaborative effort between
the Department of Children and Family Services,
the Jahi ANT Production Company, and
Crenshaw Christian Center (CCC). This pilot
program served a multi-level purpose:
1 To develop an opportunity for mentors to interface with
foster/adoptive children, ages 12-15 by driving them to
and from Saturday rehearsals at the church;
2 To enable children to build their esteem through the-
atre-dance, singing, drama-by providing a forum for them
to tell the stories of why they were in foster care;
3 To put faces and stories to the statistics by providing
prospective adoptive parents the opportunity to meet real
children who are immediately adoptable.
CCC members were recruited to serve as
mentors and received DCFS clearance along with
specialized training. On Saturday mornings work-
ing in teams, they transported children to and from
the church for _ day rehearsals. On August 29th
and 30th, 8 very nervous 'tweens and teens partici-
pated in performances in the Youth Activity
Center.
Some children were still too heart-broken to
tell their stories. Other stories broke our hearts…

“When I was 3 years old, my mother felt that
she was too young to be a mother, so she put me in
foster care…She was on drugs…”
“I've been in foster care my whole life. My
mother was abusive… Isn't there someone out
there who wants a daughter?”
“I was walking home from school…the social
worker told me to get my clothes…my mom was in
handcuffs, my dad across the street in a police
car…”
“My brother died right in front of me…He was
18; I was six…I didn't know what to do…he [was
shot and] just died right in front of my face…my
dad didn't care…”
“My mother is doing her own thing. My father
travels a lot for work, so he put me back into foster
care…”
Mentors listened to these stories for three
months and sought ways to build bridges with
these children, to establish meaningful relation-
ships that would last a lifetime. (Statistics demon-
strate that once foster children reach the emancipa-
tion age of 18, they have few ties with adults. With
limited social skills, they are homeless, jobless, or
pregnant within a year-and-a-half.)
Was the project a success? Here are the
reports from a few of the 30 mentors.
This experience as a mentor has been a posi-
tive one for me and the youngster with whom I
was paired. Our relationship has grown from the
awkward first "road trip" from the foster home to a
comfortable growing relationship of trust and
sharing. I will continue to build on the relation-
ship we have established. To facilitate this, I have
started the clearance process with the Department
of Children and Family Services (DCFS). I am
also interested in other programs sponsored by
DCFS such as Kid Save, the week-end care pro-
gram that allows children to stay with adults who
have clearance so that foster parents experience a
mini-break from their fostering responsibilities.-

I was blessed with the opportunity to work
with Barbara [not her real name]. When I initially
signed up to participate in the program, I thought
it would be to sow into the life of a hurting child. I
quickly found myself reaping so many more bless-
ings than I had ever expected.
During the 20-minute drive to and from
church, Barbara and I talked and she shared with
me her hopes and dreams for her future. I quickly
found that she was just like any other teen. She
loved to listen to music. Her favorite artist was
Beyonce'. I often allowed her to listen to songs as
we drove to and from church. At times, we would
discuss the music, and I often cautioned her that
while the beat was nice some of the lyrics were
inappropriate.
One day as we were driving home after a
rehearsal, she turned on the radio and a song came
on with inappropriate language. Before I could
say anything, she turned off the radio, looked at me
and said that she didn't like the lyrics to that song.
Another memorable experience was the time
that we shopped together for her outfit for the pro-
duction. Barbara was so excited to receive her
$100 gift card [from DCFS] but as you can imag-
ine, shopping with a 13-year-old girl has its own
unique challenges. She needed a little extra guid-
ance and encouragement about selecting an appro-
priate outfit for the performance. Of course she
tried on several outfits until she found just the right
one. We had some minor disagreements, but in the
end, we were both satisfied with her final selection.
The night prior to the performance weekend,
Barbara's other mentor, Patricia Tucker, and I
took her to the beauty salon to have her nails and
hair done. It was such a blessing to see how such
a small act could bring so much joy to a child!
Most of the time that we spent together, I
would allow her to talk. Sometimes it's just impor-
tant to listen and not be so quick to jump in and
have an answer to every problem. A child needs
someone to listen, which is what I often did.
There came a point in time when I asked Barbara
if I might share about my faith with her. She glad-
ly welcomed it.
I told her how much the Heavenly Father
loved her and that He had a good plan for her life.
I asked her if she wanted to receive the Lord Jesus
Christ, and her answer was, “Yes.” We prayed the
Sinner's Prayer in the church parking lot. Before
we went inside, I encouraged her to share her
good news with others. She simply told them, "I
have God in my heart!" How beautiful is that?
As the program began to draw to an end, I
began to see Barbara differently. I wanted more
than just a mentor/mentee relationship. I wanted
to help make her dreams come true and have a
"Forever Family" of her own. I told Barbara that
my husband and I wanted to get to know her bet-
ter. Her question to me was, "Does this mean that
you want to adopt me?" I told her that my heart
was open to it. My husband and I had already
begun the process for adoption...
[Since the production] I have spoken to
Barbara by phone. I find myself thinking of her
often and praying for her safety, peace of mind, and
a successful adoptive family. I hope that my hus-
band and I will be able to adopt her and give her
the loving home that she desires and deserves. Dr.

Ariel [not her real name] was my mentee. The
one thing that we had in common was music. We
both like music! So to introduce her to Gospel
music or even just positive music to listen to, I first
allowed her to listen to whatever she wanted to on
the radio whenever she rode with me. She had her
stations locked in, so when she got in the car, we

would listen to music and sing together.
She really didn't like rap, but Rock 'n Roll was
her cup of tea. Some of her songs I knew and she
would be surprised when she realized we would
just be driving along singing together. She really
enjoyed that.
One Saturday when I had to pick her up I was
on a fast. I listen only to Gospel when I'm fasting.
She got into the car, and I told her about my fast.
She asked what it meant and I explained that I
wanted to be clear about a few things so I wanted
to hear from God. I further explained that the fast
was my way of getting out of the way so that Father
would know I was sincere and really wanted to
hear from Him. She listened to the music and
enjoyed it. She was also a lot calmer that particular
Saturday, too. The next time she rode with me, I
had a CD that belonged to my daughter, and it
was playing when she got in the car. It was a
Gospel Rap/Rock 'N Roll band. She said, "This is
gospel?" I said, "Yes, Gospel comes in all styles just
like any other music.” She really enjoyed listening
to that CD.
She said she was an atheist, but she enjoyed lis-
tening to Gospel music with me. I told her that
“God is good, and He has good music, too!” That
was a wonderful experience for me and for her.-

Hearing what some of the youth had gone
through in their young lives was heart-breaking at
times, yet it inspired me to make whatever differ-
ence I can make in their lives. It stretched me and
grew me on a couple of levels.
First, I am remaining in contact with my
mentee and will be present in his life as much or as
little as he wants. I also told the other youth that
they can call on me if necessary.
Secondly, I enjoyed watching him and the oth-
ers grow. What a difference from when they start-
ed the theatre program. Seeing them blossom in
their own way was rewarding.
I think Donald [not his real name] learned and
saw that others cared and were vested in him suc-
ceeding in life. With the consistent encouragement
that he received from me and his other mentor, I
believe he became more confident with his ability
to achieve his goals and dreams. He has an inter-

est in attending church with me now. Sometimes
he attends a church near where he lives. He indi-
cated that he will become more consistent in pursu-
ing the things of the Lord. He's a Christian
already, and he is hoping to get back with his birth
mother/family so he wasn't really interested in

Initially, my husband didn't want to attend the
mentor meetings because in gatherings like this,
he's usually the only male. In the end however, he
thanked me because he found it very rewarding.
Not only did this experience bring us closer togeth-
er, but it also added the one ingredient that was
missing from our family. Let me explain …

taining contact with her. This past weekend, with
the social worker's approval, Andrea spent some
time with us at our home. On Sunday, she came to
church with us. She received Christ, joined
church, and was filled with the Holy Spirit.
Besides that great news, we are currently
going through the Foster/Adopt process to get
licensed in order to adopt Andrea. We're working
with the social workers, but Andrea doesn't want
to wait until then to live with us. She's 15 and she
wants a family now. So we are going to become
her foster parents while we wait for the adoption
process to finalize. The social worker says that
Andrea is really resilient and very good in school.
While she was at our home, we visited the
school she'll be attending in our area. We asked
her to think about whether or not she really wants
to make this change. Andrea says, “Yes,” she really
needs a change… She's especially excited about
having her own room and bathroom.
Andrea has never had anyone to sit down and
talk with her. She feels that she is just moved from
place to place. She needs someone to love her, care
for her, and give her stability.
Over the weekend we walked through the
malls and looked at school clothes. She was really
excited about that. Afterwards, we went to a popu-
lar local Chinese restaurant-a first for her.
At home, we sat down and talked until 1 a.m.-

girl talk! In the morning, Andrea fixed her own
breakfast and she seemed as if she really felt at
home. The weekend went too quickly. We were
supposed to take her back to the foster home on
Sunday after church, but Andrea wanted to stay
another day. Since that Monday was a holiday
(Labor Day), the social worker said that it was fine.
Andrea is very talented and has a very good
singing voice, so I gave her some suggestions since
I had experience from singing in the choir. My hus-
band and I are concerned about her school and
career and will be working with her to pursue her
goals. Andrea sees how this dynamic is working-
husband and wife.
We all prayed together. Andrea even prayed
and blessed the food at breakfast. She needs
encouragement and someone who'll be there on a
regular basis. I see her flourishing already.
We've always been told that we would be the
perfect parents. Now, we have an immediate
opportunity, so we thought, why not contribute
something to another child's life? This is right for
us. She has a forever family now. We thank God
for this opportunity to change a child's life.
Of the children who participated in this proj-
ect, several have been identified for adoption. On
the night of the production, once the official part of
the program ended, the ministry portion began.
Minister La Nej Garrison, M.A. who during her
early childhood had been in foster care, shared her
dynamic testimony. Several foster children and
adults-all visitors-prayed to receive Jesus Christ as
Savior.
We all agree that this is a wonderful begin-
ning. But to echo the words of Edward Carter,

Faith for the Harvest!

I ndonesia is the world's largest Muslim country with over 280 mil-
lion muslims.
Central Java, is primarily composed of 6 major Indonesian
provinces. With a population of over 35 million barely 2% claim to be
Christian. Believers estimate that the actual percentage of born again
believers are significantly lower. Over 98% of the population practices a
mixture of Islam, Hinduism & Buddhism.
This region is also known as a breeding ground for many local
fundamentalist, extreme groups that have carried out terrorist acts
worldwide.
Having planted churches & ministered in Indonesia for over 14
years, Dr James Tan was led of the Lord to host a 3 day conference in
Central Java in May 2009. What was originally planned as a church
wide conference soon evolved into the largest regional conference ever
held with over 4000 in attendance! Some of the conference attendees
travelled almost 10 hours to be in the services. Also present were over
250 pastors representing some 90 churches from 4 provinces.
“We had been led to pray for that particular region for afew years
& had watched with dismay when radicals had attacked the Churches
& an earthquake struck the area afew years back. But we knew that
there is much power in praying according to God's Word! Although
we had planted many churches in Indonesia & have various other
churches & ministries affiliated with our ministry (Covenant
Fellowship Of Ministries International) ,we did not have any
contacts in that region. So we set our faith for a
door to be open so that the Word of Faith
would have an entrance into those
lives!” declares Dr Tan.
With an emphesis of
faith in the integrity of
God's Word, the teach-

ing at the conference produced immediate results. Many were heal &
delivered. Local papers reported of a lady who was undergoing kidney
dialysis. After hands were laid on her, she went to her Docter the next
day & after a series of test, return on the last nite of the conference with
a medical report that her kidneys were functioning normally! Over 600
muslims responded to invitations for salvation by accepting Jesus as
Lord!
One of the CFMI churches in that region reported that after the
conference, they have seen a 20% increase in Sunday service attendance.
They even had to start a branch church in a neighboring town because
a Javanese speaking man who had attended the conference got healed
& after he told the people in his town over 20 others got saved.
During the conference, inspired by the Spirit, Dr Tan declared
that he would return to assist in training the Pastors & leaders in that
region. Immediately scheduled for 2009 / 2010, the School of Ministry
will be conducted over 10 individual 4 day sessions. The 1st session was
held in Aug this year & over 350 pastors from across the region attend-
ed!
“ This is an unprecedented time in the history of this region to
make a lasting impact for the Kingdom. Where Christians were perse-
cuted & churches burned as recently as 5 years ago, we now have an
opportunity to influence this entire generation with the Word of Faith!”
says Dr Tan. He continues, “The Word of God does not change & is
not affected by a person's geographical location or social status. The
Word will work for “whosoever will”…& we are witness to God's faith-
fulness!”
With the ongoing outreaches of crusades, church
planting & mentoring of Pastors, future plans
are on the way for a full time Ministry

THE 80-10-10 PRINCIPLE

I was sitting on my patio last fall
watching a lone squirrel. My, was he busy!
Totally energized and motivated, he scam-
pered around the oak trees, picked up
acorns, and took them to a safe place to
store for the winter.
I thought, “He doesn't have a fore-
man or a Harvard MBA telling him what to
do.” He was diligent in going about his busi-
ness.
That little squirrel was practicing
part of a simple, yet profound strategy for a
lifetime of personal fulfillment and financial
success. I call it the “80-10-10 Principle”-a
formula as to how you handle the money
that flows through your hands.
Breaking it down into dollars and
cents, out of every dollar, 80 cents is yours to
keep and spend as you choose. However,
what you do with the two “ten cent” pieces
determines how you will prosper both spiri-
tually and materially.
IT STARTS WITH PERSONAL
PRODUCTIVITY
There is a common misunder-
standing among many Christians. They
attempt to use faith in God as a solution to
problems that can only be solved through
planning and action.
For example, let's talk about
being overweight. I've met sincere believers
who ask the Lord to take their excess
pounds off, when all that is really needed is
an action plan, will-power, determination,
and consistency.
The same principle applies to
both work and investments. Speaking per-
sonally, I don't sit at home, laze around, do
nothing, and then expect God to bless me.
This is foolish, because if you take zero and
multiply it by a thousand, you still get zero.
So we have to start with some-
thing-and that something is the result of our
industry and work. In other words, we must
earn money to have money. Without this
first step, there is nothing to give or grow.
To increase your wealth factor
and become financially independent over
time, you need an action plan and a develop-
ment strategy that is faithfully followed. It
will work for anybody.
THE FIRST “TENTH”
If eighty percent of the money that

we acquire through work, investments,
inheritance, or from any other source is to
spend as we please, what about the remain-
der?
It may come as a surprise to you,
but ten percent of the money is not yours to
begin with. It rightfully belongs to God,
and you are only holding it temporarily until
you can return it to Him. We're talking
about the tithe-God's admission price
to His covenant of prosperity.
The word “tithe” as a noun means
a tenth, or ten percent. But tithe is also a
verb. When you bring your tithe to the store-
house there is action involved. And, as we
will see, it unleashes an awesome power.
Let's begin with the basics. The
ground you walk on doesn't belong to you.
“The earth is the Lord's, and everything in
it” (Psalm 24:1).
Whether you are a farmer who
grows crops, a miner who digs coal, or a car-
penter who builds houses, you are using
resources that were placed here by the
Creator-and He still owns every inch of the
land and the waters of the sea.
Since He has granted you the
right to use His property, there is only one
command He asks in return: “A tithe of
everything from the land, whether grain
from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs
to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord” (Leviticus
27:30).
THE SECOND “TENTH”
When my wife, Sue, and I
returned to the United States in 1983 from
serving as missionaries in Africa, we had
very little financially-about $20,000 in equity
from the sale of our first home. We plowed
that money into starting the church we now
pastor.
Yes, we preached faith and I con-
fessed the promises of God's Word that He
wanted me to be the head not the tail, and to
prosper in all things. But I have to admit
that
I was complaining to Him regarding
our lack of financial resources.
Then one day in prayer the Lord
clearly spoke to me: “You don't have any
money because you never save any money.”
God gave me this word of instruc-
tion: “Save something every seven days, even
if it is only five dollars.”
The Lord was telling me, “How
can I bless you if you spend more than you
make?”
So, starting in 1989, I began sav-
ing at least something every week. Within
two years I had reworked my budget so that
I was able to save or invest at least 10 per-
cent of my income-and I have never fallen
below that level.
During one of those years, I
received a raise. But I told my wife, “We're
not going spend any of this increase. It is all
going into savings.”
I finally reached the 80-10-10
benchmark. The 80 percent was mine to
spend, 10 percent belonged to God, and I
either saved or invested the last 10 percent.
I firmly believe that because I was
faithful, both spiritually and materially, God
allowed financial miracles to come my way.
For example, in 1991, just two years after
making my life-changing commitment, I
became involved in a home transaction
where the buying price was so drastically
reduced that it resulted in a $150,000 equity
windfall. And not long after this, another
opportunity presented itself with an even
larger reward.
I am not revealing this informa-
tion to brag, but within four years after God
gave me His instruction, I was a millionaire.
This is why I can personally tell you the 80-
10-10 plan really works.
It's not just because you are sav-
ing and investing money. There is a greater
factor at work. When you are being totally
obedient to God's Word regarding both
tithing and investing, you are giving the
Lord something to bless, and He places His
favor on whatever you put your hand to.
I keep urging people to make an
early start. When they do, the numbers are
in their favor. Let's say a young man finds a
job at the age of eighteen that pays only
$20,000 a year. Even though he has no col-
lege education and starts at this low wage,
he sets aside 10 percent of what he makes
each year and averages a 5 percent raise
annually. With the normal 10 percent his-
toric stock market average increase, by the
time he is 65 years old he will be worth $3.7
million.
This is why I say that every
American should retire a millionaire.
OVER AND ABOVE
We know that God requires His
tithe be returned to Him-10 percent of every-
thing we earn. And we also have learned the
dynamic principle of saving or investing the
next 10 percent so that our personal wealth
will grow. We are left with 80 percent-ours
to spend as we please.
However, scripture gives us clear
direction as to how at least some of our
money is to be used. The Bible not only
speaks of tithes, but “offerings” (Malachi
3:8).
These are two distinct forms of
giving. The tithe is God's requirement,
while offerings -over and above the tithe-are
an amount of our choosing, but still expect-
ed by our heavenly Father. It is this second
form of giving that transforms abundance
into super-abundance.
Here's how I explain the differ-
ence. The tithe is what turns the engine on;
offerings are what pushes the accelerator to
the floor!
By following the 80-10-10 princi-
ple, what I earn from investments is enough
to create a positive cash flow. Then, because
my store of seed has increased, I am able to
give offerings to the Lord's work-and they
become larger and larger gifts over time.
The biblical principle of sowing
and reaping is based on our giving.
Offerings are how we sow the seeds now to
live in overflow later.
If you make an unbreakable
covenant with God to live the 80-10-10 life, I
guarantee you will receive blessing, abun-
dance, and the favor He has promised.
Don't waste one more minute.

are supposed to cast all of our cares upon God.
When I finished my class, one of the students,
asked this same question.
This is what I told her to do. “Get an 8
_ x 11 piece of paper. At the top of the page write
'My Cares,' 'My Burdens,' 'My Worries'-in other
words, all the things that you are concerned
about. Then start listing all those things.
When you have listed all of your cares,
take that list to the waste paper basket and say,
"Lord, these are my cares. This represents all of
my cares-my children, my husband, and so on.
I told this lady, “Ball up that piece of
paper and say, 'I don't know where Your hand is,
but right now by faith, this piece of paper repre-
sents all of my cares. I can see that basket which
represents Your hand, and I can see this piece of
paper, so Lord, right now, in the name of Jesus I
cast all my cares on You.' Then drop that paper
right into the waste paper basket."

When you do that you are saying that
all your cares are on that paper in the basket -- in
God's hands. Now, leave it there. If you leave it
there, guess what? That makes you free, so now
by faith you must act free.
Free people do not stay up all night
wringing their hands worrying about husbands,
wives, children or jobs. People who have cast all
of their cares on the Lord do not have those cares
any more. Their minds are clear, because they
have no cares.
One of the things that people often do
is that they take their burden to the Lord, but
then after they're through praying they pick it
right back up and take it with them. You can tell
because they still talk and complain about it. If
you cast your cares on the Lord, you are totally
free from them. That is the way you have to act.
If you do not act free, that is an enemy to your
faith, and it will destroy your faith.
Expanding
Coverage
The Daystar Television Network's
domestic cable coverage has increased by over
7.7 million homes. Daystar has also signed a
contract with the largest single Cable System
in America. That is Cablevision in New York
City with 2.7 million digital homes. It is
owned by the Dolan Family who also own the
New York Knicks NBA Team and Madison
Square Garden. Daystar is the first Christian
Television Network in history to be on this
cable system in New York City.
This will give Daystar a total increase of
over 10.4 million cable homes in the United
States. The Ever Increasing Faith Ministries
Broadcast was recently added to a new
Daystar channel in South Carolina.
As part of our national carriage agree-
ment with Comcast, Daystar did switch from
analog cable to digital cable in certain mar-
kets. As you can see, we continue to reach 80%
of the Comcast subscribers (over 3.2 million
homes) in these markets. Those numbers will
continue to increase daily as Comcast encour-
ages their customers to switch from analog to
digital cable.
