The Hard Way


1. Install the license manager first by choosing Set Up Licensing from setup.exe. Dont enter any paths for
license file. Leave it blank.

2. Copy the contents of license_manager from SHooTERS folder to installed dir C:/OrCAD/license_manager.
Overwrite files.

3. Open orcad16.lic (stored on the hard drive not from the CD) in text editor and replace this_host with the
name of the Computer (in the first line of the file), and save the file.

4. Run setup again and choose Set up License and enter the path of license file
C:OrCAD\license_manager\orcad16.lic . Click Next. Ignore the failure error and press Cancel.

5. Run setup again, and choose Install products, enter port as 5280 and host id/name as the name of your
Computer. Next select the apps you want to install. Leave the install info and control file paths blank.

6. After the installation is completed, go to Start->Programs->Cadence License Manager->License Manager
Tools and change the path of license file to C:OrCAD\license_manager\orcad16.lic in the Config Services tab.
(it would be some license.dat initially)

7. Click on Start Server button in the Start/Stop/Reread tab of the license manager utility. Next, click on
Reread License File. Wait for the reread operation to be completed (see status bar).

8. Now check if the Cadence License Manager Service is running in the Control Panel->Administrator Tools-
>Services.

9. Run orcad_16.0_patcher.exe.

10. Now if you want to run simulations with advanced options, like "Parametric sweep" you need to go to the
files you've backed up, "C:\OrCAD\OrCAD_16.0\tools\PatchWise.bak\pspice", take the old .dll "SimSetup.dll"
and replace with it the new one, in the "C:\OrCAD\OrCAD_16.0\tools\pspice".

11. Done

If you get the ERROR message "The procedure entry point RWSetO2K3Color could not be located in the
dynamic link library RWUXThemeS.dll", go in to environment variables and move the link
"%CDSROOT%\tools\bin" in the Path variable to the beginning of it.

Choose Set Up Licensing


Dont change anything, click next

Step 2:
Copy the contents of license_manager from SHooTERS folder to installed dir C:/OrCAD/license_manager,
Overwrite files.
Step 3:
Right click on My Computer and choose Properties


Memorize your computers name

Right click on orcad16.lic file in license_manager folder and open it with any text editor


Remove this_host and write your computers name and then file>save

Step 4:

Open setup.exe again and choose Set Up Licensing


Browse for the orcad16.lic file youve just modified in the text editor


Ignore the error message by pressing OK

Exit the setup

Step 5

Open setup.exe again, this is the last time I promise, choose Install Products


Turn off any antivirus


Write 5280 as the Port Number, Your computers name under Host Name
