Lesson Plan - English 1 (Matayom 1)

Listening and Speaking


Time 4 periods/2weeks

Outcomes: At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:

1. Identify different kinds of hobbies.
2. Ask and answer question about someones hobbies using wh questions
3. Use the sentence structure modeled in asking and answering information
4. Use adverbs of frequency and present simple tense in answering questions.
5. Ask and answer question in polite manner with the correct intonation.
6. Appreciate other forms of hobbies.
7. Show and tell about interesting and worthwhile hobbies.

Content: Talking about Hobbies
Course Description 2
Materials: power point presentation or pictures
Reference: (Names of the book)

Procedures:
A. Warm up:
Show to the students some pictures or slides and let the students identify what they
see (time bounded).
Let the students guess or explain what these pictures about in one sentence.

B. Lesson Presentation:
I. Giving and Sharing Information
1. List down all the activities the teacher has shown in the slide.
2. Introduce some vocabulary regarding hobbies such as, crochet, collecting
items, outdoor activities, indoor activities
3. Let the students categorize hobbies for specific purpose as
a. Best brain exercise
b. Best for health
c. exciting

II. Language Skill Focus
1. Using of wh questions in asking information 1.4.2.1
examples:
a. What are your hobbies?
b. What do you usually do on your free time?
c. What types of music do you like?
d. Why do you like collecting round objects?
Note: Here, teacher should guide students the correct tone of the voice.

2. Introducing structure or model in answering questions 1.5.2.

III. Grammar Application
1. Adverbs of frequency
I usually play tennis on weekends.
I often paint if Im bored.

Student Centered Activities
1. Conversation by pair- practice

- Asking questions and answering about hobbies
S1 Whats your hobby? / What are your hobbies?
S2 - I like baking cookies.
S1- How often do you bake cookies?
S2- I usually do it on weekends.
S1- Why do you like to bake?
S2: Its interesting and it helps you to be creative.

2. Group work as extension activity
- let the students think or search of some worthwhile hobbies
and present them in the class. The students will explain why they considered such as
worthwhile (details for presentation should be given).

IV. Wrap up

Eliciting and Sharing of ideas

Example:
Discussion through question:
What kind of a worthwhile hobby you would like to develop for yourself and why?
Explain the importance of having a valuable hobby.

Assessment
1. Conversation in pairs (with prepared rubric)
Example: (as shown in the previous slide)

2. Show and tell (with prepared rubric).
Example: Show a picture or in a power point. The students will tell something about
a certain hobby and explain the reason why they considered it worthwhile or valuable.







Collection of old cellphones

Student 1: Good morning everyone. Today, we are going to introduce to you a very
rare yet interesting hobby. This is a collection of old cellphones. I considered this
worthwhile or valuable because this reminds us how our communication technology
started.

Student 2: We can compare the sizes or the prices of the old cellphones. Now
cellphones come in different sizes and style.

Student 3: The old cellphones were cheap and their functions are simple.

Student 4: We can see the amazing work of Science and Technology through the
transition of the cellphones functions and uses which are getting sophisticated.
