How Communications Technology has Shaped

Human Society

(The Failure of Success)
Idea 1:
Education (Increase in information access, and educational pressure)
In schools, technology provides access to information globally
Students can take online courses if the school itself does not offer certain courses
The rapid development of technology has also pressured schools into keeping up
with the latest improvements and teaching students how to use these new technologies

Idea 2:
Business (Increase in speed of the world market)
Development of cell phones allow both employee and employer to keep in contact
each other
Virtual conferencing also allows for business to be done with other people across
the world, speeding up the world of commerce with advanced communications
With advancements in technology, it has created a shortage in the labour market,
since many jobs can be replaced by some form of machinery, along with the fact that employers
have the option of hiring someone for much cheaper in another country, putting a strain on the
labor market in employers own country

Idea 3:
Politics (Interactions between candidates and the population, and control of mass media)
Debated whether of not mass media across democratic countries (i.e the U.S and
Canada) actually supports the idea of democracy completely.
i.e the fact that any major events being published could be censored by
government or corporate workers
Through communication technology, (i.e radio and television) politicians can
connect with a larger mass of people and have their idea spread out farther and wider

Idea 4:
Social (the increased ability of idea exchange and decrease of verbal communication
skills)
The introduction of cell phones and social networks have allowed for long distant
relationships to thrive, but those in an immediate physical circle tend to suffer
Verbal social skills are believed to diminish because of the ability to communicate
long distances via text
Though the amount of social interactions in daily lives has increased, it has
decreased on a personal level has decreased, surveys show that the average number of personal
friends people claim to have has decreased significantly since the 1970s

Idea 5:
Health (The increased availability of patient records, and the decrease of security and
productivity)
Electronic Health Records (EHR) allow for remote access of patient records
across hospitals and health clinics, it also eliminates the confusion of out of order papers and is
considered to be always available no matter what.
EHRs now gives doctors the ability to type write prescriptions and such, avoiding
the confusion caused by hand written prescriptions
Downsides to electronic health records is firstly, the cost of installing and
updating the technology across all hospitals and healthcare clinics
Studies done on health centres that use EHRs drop in physician productivity by
25%
EHRs allow better access to sensitive patient information, which makes it easier
for such information to become compromised
