NARRATIVE REPORT
(Community Extension: HEALTH EDUCATION SEMINAR: DOH PROGRAMS AND
SERVICES)

We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other. If
you are there always for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you.
by Jeff Warner. This saying encourages us to the act of service. Being a healthcare
provider, we should always make ourselves available to those who are in need of our
help because we belonged to the same community.

The graduate school students under Master of Arts in Nursing program
conducted a Health Education Seminar regarding the DOH Programs and Services last
February 8, 2014 on Barangay Tinamnan Lucban, Quezon which is a 4-hour encounter
with the residents of the said barangay. The topics being presented were: the Maternal
and Child Health Program; the Expanded Program in Immunization, the Communicable
Diseases; and the Healthy Lifestyle Management.

The assigned tasks given to me were to facilitate the registration of the expected
participants, to record the minutes of the seminar, and to conduct the evaluative tool to
the participants of the said seminar.

I could say that this seminar was a very productive and successful since that we
became an allied and instrument of the DOH to disseminate its programs and services.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world;
indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. by Margaret Mead.

NARRATIVE REPORT
(Community Extension: HEALTH EDUCATION SEMINAR: DOH PROGRAMS AND
SERVICES)

Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve. by Martin Luther King, Jr.
I believe that we are not just nurses that can be found inside to hospital to give care and
medications but instead, we are nurses in all kinds of society. If the people did not want
to seek help, we should be the one to reach them out so that our community is a better
place to live in.

The graduate school students under Master of Arts in Nursing program
conducted a Health Education Seminar regarding the DOH Programs and Services last
March 8, 2014 on Barangay Tinamnan Lucban, Quezon which is the continuation of
their community extension services. The topics being presented were: the Maternal and
Child Health Program; the Expanded Program in Immunization, the Communicable
Diseases; and the Healthy Lifestyle Management.

I don't know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know: the only ones among
you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.

Reaction Paper
(Is it right to introduce the two major subjects in Nursing Curriculum: Theoretical
Foundation in Nursing and Fundamentals of Nursing during Level 1 nursing students
which is mandated by the CMO No.14?)

Curriculum can be defined as a plan for what is to be taught in schools. It
consists of topics to be taught at all levels in the primary school. The term
"curriculum" is generally understood as the courses or programs of study offered
by an educational institution. The concept of "curriculum" is best understood,
however, from the Latin root of the word which is "currere", or "to run" as in to
run a racecourse. To use an analogy, curriculum means the course (or path) that
students have to run to finish the "race" -- or put another way, all the activities
which students need do if they are to finish a program of study and achieve the
intended learning goals. Curriculum is more than just a body of knowledge, a list of
subjects to be studied, or a syllabus -- it is all the planned experiences such as
extra-class activities, guidance, and interpersonal relationships which learners may
be exposed to in order to achieve the learning goals.

In any aspects of life or career, there is always a pros and cons like the
continuous amendments and revisions of the nursing curriculum due to the fact
that experts devotedly aimed to escalate the standards of nursing practice and
profession in our society as well as to the whole nation.

In terms of the subject Theoretical Foundation in Nursing, theory
development surfaced in level 1 nursing students because opened up the students
desire for nursing to be considered a profession, and then to help future nurses
increase their knowledge of practice, what it is and what it can be. Theories can
help to identify a clearer picture of practice than using facts alone. I believe that
it may be hard for the students to adjust easily specially with the medical terms
but it is part of their preparation to be aware and familiarize the essence and
deeper roots of nursing profession in early year. It can bring up and help the level
1 nursing students to imbibe the nursing values and principles of the pioneers of
nursing profession.

When it comes of the Fundamentals in Nursing, the Level 1 nursing students
will learn all the basic and necessary skills that they should know at their level that
could have an early return demonstration and clinical setting application as their
year as level 1 nursing students passed by. These fundamental scientific skills for
the level 1 nursing students will serve as their basis in performing any aseptic
techniques once they re exposed in any type of clinical or community settings.

Nursing students should not only be knowledgeable in their lessons but
instead, nursing students should possess multiple-intelligence which means people-
smart and body-smart in all dimensions of a human being.

Like an ever changing of nursing curriculum, there could always have
successes and failures accompanied by change but always remember that success
is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. It is the
courage of those experts who are not stopping in formulating, grafting and building
a strong nursing curriculum for our country nurses who are compassionate,
committed, determined, and competent in providing safe and quality nursing care.
