The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept the repo rate unchanged at 8 per cent in its
first bi-monthly monetary policy statement for the year 2014-15. The GDP growth
for 2014-15 is expected at 5 to 6 per cent with downside risks. It has also kept the
cash reserve ratio (CRR) unchanged at 4 per cent.

The marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate remain unchanged at 9
per cent. However, the Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) borrowing has been cut
to 0.25 per cent of net demand and time liability (NDTL).

The new Companies Act, 2013, has come into force from today. However, many
sections are yet to be notified. Among these are setting up of a National Company
Law Tribunal (NCLT), a National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA), winding-up

provisions in this regard of the old Companies Act, 1956.

Asian Development Bank, ADB, has said India's GDP is poised to accelerate to 5.5

The Sahara Group has expressed its inability before the Supreme Court to
immediately deposit 10,000 crore rupees for securing bail of its chief Subrata Roy
and its two directors. In a fresh proposal submitted to the Apex Court the company
said that it can deposit 2,500 Crore rupees immediately to SEBI.

The Indian Space Research Organisation, ISRO is all set to launch its Polar Satellite
Launch Vehicle PSLV-C24 from Sriharikota.
The PSLV-C24 will put India's navigation satellite, the Indian Regional Navigation
Satellite System, IRNSS-1B into orbit after over 19 minutes of flight. If all goes
well, it will be ISRO's 25th consecutive successful launch of a PSLV.

India ranks a hundred and second among the 132 countries on the Social Progress
Index, a measure of human wellbeing that goes beyond traditional economic
measures such as GDP or per capita income.

Six major world powers - The US, The UK, France, Russia, China plus Germany
continued their expert-level talks for the second consecutive day in Vienna. The
expert level talks are aimed at fleshing out the details of a comprehensive long
lasting deal over Irans nuclear program. Irans top nuclear negotiator, Hamid
Baeidinejad, said that both sides discussed technical issues. The results of expert
level talks will be discussed at Iran and P5+1 meeting of deputy foreign ministers
next week.

shortlisted for this year's Baileys Prize, the UK's only annual book award for fiction
written by a woman. The book, set in Kolkata and Rhode Island in the US, is about
the lives of two brothers, their choices and their fate. Lowland was also shortlisted
for the Man Booker Prize. Five other books have also been shortlisted.

US Scientists have found a novel way to transform trees into high-tech energy
storage devices for computers and other consumer electronics. Researchers at
Oregon State University have found that cellulose, a key component of trees, can
be heated in a furnace in the presence of ammonia, and turned into the building
blocks for super capacitors having a wide range of industrial applications.

Reserve Bank Governor RaghuramRajan has said though the country has enough
foreign exchange reserves, no nation can fully insulate itself from external
vulnerabilities. At a conference organised by the Brookings Institution in
Washington yesterday he said that India is well-buffered with substantial reserves,
though no country can be de-coupled from the international system. In the just-
concluded financial year, the country's forex reserves crossed the 300 billion US
Dollar mark, the highest since December 2011.
