Why Mexico? and Why now?
Mexicos Automotive Industry has maintained
an annual average growth of 10% after the
global economic crisis in 2009. Parallel to the
continuous arrival of new manufacturing fa-
cilities, there is the emerging growth of pub-
lic and private engineering and technology
centers. Now is the time to stablish strategic
partnerships world-wide. Mexico now is ta-
king manufacturing market share back from
Asia and attracting more global investment
than ever in autos, aerospace and household
goods. wrote Thomas L. Friedman in his arti-
cle How Mexico got back in the game in the
New York Times, published in february 23rd
2013.

FUTURE MATERIALS
In the automotive industry advanced materials already used at
the body in white and other structural parts are enabling the
lightweight and downsizing strategy that the industry is facing.
But there is still a long way to go in order to achieve the manda-
tory emission reduction targets for new cars. Besides alterna-
tive and more efcient powertrains, light weighting is a need for
every car manufacturer. Continuous development on advanced
materials will reduce the weight of the car through product and
process development on martensitic steel, aluminum and com-
posites to be combined on multi-material structures.
Chaired by Pablo Martinez, Manager Business
Development NAFTA, Tecnalia.
CONNECTED VEHICLES AND AUTONOMOUS DRIVING
(ELECTRONICS AND SOFTWARE TECHNICAL SESSION)
Consumer electronics is changing how we envision infotainment
in the vehicle especially with the emergence of the smart phone.
Such technologies as V2X and autonomous driving will create an
entirely new level of performance, safety, mobility, enjoyment, etc.
for the vehicle owner and his passengers.
Chaired by Andrew Brown Jr., Vice President and Chief
Technologist, Delphi.
REGULATORY AND TECHNOLOGY TRENDS IN LIGHT DUTY VEHICLES
THROUGH 2025 (REGULATORY TRENDS LIGHT VEHICLES)
In this session, we will discuss the connection between light duty vehicle
fuel economy standards and the evolution of vehicle technologies that
improve efciency. In 2012, the United States - including California - and
Canada set greenhouse gas standards for light duty vehicles out to 2025.
These standards will drive technological development throughout the
automotive sector from manufacturers to suppliers. What is the
prognosis for penetration rates for hybrids, for light-weight materials, for
turbocharged direct injection engines, for improved aerodynamics and
tires? These are just some of the questions that will be explored
during this session from the perspectives of government, manufacturers,
and suppliers.
Chaired by Drew Kodjak, Executive Director, The International
Council on Clean Transportation and Former Executive with
the U.S. EPA-Ofce of Transportation and Air Quality.
