TEMPLATE PRINTING HELP

1- Always double check templates that you print out to verify that the size stated on the template is the same
size as the actual templates outside measurement. Please do this regardless of your printer settings before
you begin cutting your fabric.
2- When printing a PDF file that contains templates, be sure youre printing the document at 100% scale.
Adobe Acrobat Reader automatically defaults to the option of Fit to Page. This will print the entire docu-
ment at 90%, altering the size of the templates. This is easy to change. Simply follow the directions given
next and you are on your way to creating your next masterpiece.
3- You have two options for beginning the printing
process. You can click on the printer icon
on the top tool bar or you may choose to
click on Filethen Print. Either option will
bring up the print
dialog box.
4-Look for the option Fit to Page. The box next to
this option should be blank. If there is a in the
box, simply click once within the box to remove it.
If the is left in the box, the document will print
out smaller than 100% in scale and templates will
be too small.
5-If you find that your printouts print at other than 100%, just open the pdf in Adobe
Reader again and make sure the Fit to Pageoption is not selected. Click on
Propertieswithin the print dialog box. Click on the Graphicstab and look for the
Scalingoption. Be sure it is set at 100%. If it is not, simply change it to 100%.
6- You can also print only the template
page by changing the print range in the
first print dialog box to the page number
containing templates. This will help
conserve your toner and paper.

NOTE: Please read the entire pattern carefully. Every
effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of
this pattern.Use a 1/4 seam allowance unless
otherwise stated. Since fabrics can stretch and
actual seam allowances can vary, please mea-
sure your pieced quilt center (before borders
are cut or added), and make any changes in
the border size before cutting, if needed. The
border measurements are calculated for a per-
fect size once pieced, so please do not cut
your border strips until you have verified your
quilts actual size.
Fabric images used in the presentation of this
pattern are given as placement guides. They
are not necessarily true to the scale of the
original fabrics.

Baby Talk Panel

1 Panel
Perfect little prints in soft Moda flannel will make this quilt a pleasure to
wrap your new baby in. A panel combined with simple brick shaped pieces
of coordinating prints make this project quick and easy. This quilt is
reversible! Fast and easy large brick shapes continue the theme from the
front on the back. No seams intersect throughout the quilt! The fabric
placement is arranged in a scrap quilt fashion. The finished quilt size is
great for use in a crib.
J ust for fun, a pattern for a clutch
ball is included for using up those
scraps! Templates for three sizes are
included. I made clutch balls years
ago for my babies. Somehow, I lost
the original pattern somewhere
along the way but this new pattern,
made from my memory, works
great!

REFERENCE TABLE
FABRIC POSITION SWATCH OR DESCRIPTION
1- Trim the panel leaving a
1/4 seam allowance past
the blocks. Trim the top
and bottom motifs trim
in the middle of the
darker teal 1/2 strip.
Trim the sides leaving a
1/4 of yellow for the
seam allowance. The
outer, unfinished mea-
surement should be 22-
1/2 x 34-1/2 for the
borders to fit properly.
HINT:
If the panel measures
slightly larger than
22 x 34 finished, it
will help to preshrink
the fabric. If you
preshrink the panel be
sure to preshrink the
coordinates as well.
2- Sew the long inner border strips to
the panel sides. Press the seam
allowances toward the border strips.
Sew the short strips to the top and
bottom of the panel. Press the seam
allowances toward the border strips.
3- Sew the 3-1/2 x 6-1/2 small bricks
in the order shown below. Press the
seam allowances to one side.
4- Sew the two small brick borders to
the sides of the quilt. Press the seam
allowances toward the inner border
strips.
5- Sew the top and bottom small brick borders
together. Press the seam allowances to one
side.
6- Sew the pieced strips to the top and bottom
of the quilt. Press the seam allowances
toward the inner border strips.
9- Layer the quilt back,
wrong side up, the
batting and the quilt
top together. Center
the quilt top carefully.
The back wil be
trimmed to match the
size of the top. Baste
the layers together.
10- Quilt as desired. An
overall design like
stippling or cross-
hatching works nicely.
11- Trim the outer edges
of the layers flush with
the quilt top.
7- Sew the 6-1/2 x 9-1/2 large bricks and 6-1/2
x 5 half large bricks together in vertical rows.
Press the seam allowances to one side.
8- Sew the rows together pressing the seam
allowances to one side.
12- Bind the outer edges using the continuous
bias. Refer to binding page. (a separate
download).

FABRIC CUTTING GUIDE
991088-4
FUSSY CUTTING TIPS FOR THE CLUTCH BALLS:
1- Make a regular plastic template of each shape needed but do yourself and your quilt a
favor.
2- Make a second paper template with the area inside of the seam allowances.
3- Slide the paper silhouette around on the fabric using the opening as a window.
4- Once you have the motif (design) in the window, slide the plastic template in place and
cut out the fabric shape.
Try to keep straight sides of the templates running on grain if possible.

Babys Clutch Ball
Templates provided for Small, Medium & Large sizes (approx. 3, 4 & 5 across)
1- Place a top and a bottom piece right sides
together. Line up on one side. Sew down
the side, starting and stopping at the
marked dots (1/4 away from points).
2- Keep the machine needle in the down posi-
tion at the marked dot, lift up the pressure
foot, swivel the pieces, line up the second
side and sew down it. Stop the stitches at
the marked dot. Clip threads.
3- Sew a few stitches down the straight side
of the bottom piece. Leave enough room to
turn the pieces right side out. Repeat the
process for the remaining 11 sections. Turn
each right side out and
stuff the top 3/4 full. If
you stuff them too full,
the ball will not sew
together well later.
7- Sew the two halves together joining all
remaining sections. The fit will be tight
depending on the amount of stuffing
you used.
8- Be sure your knots are secure. Do not
embellish with buttons, charms or bells
since babies love to chew on these soft,
loveable toys.

SEW
Triad SideView
4- Sew two of the sections together starting at
the top pieces. Sew securely at the corners
and whip stitch down the sides. This will
automatically close any openings. Repeat
for a total of 4 pairs.
5- Sew a third section to each pair. Repeat for a total of four triad sections
6- Sew two triads together. Repeat
for one more pair of triads.
Use a 1/4 seam allowance. The clutch balls will vary in finished size depending upon the fabric and stuffing used (flannel produces larger clutch
balls than a regular, unbrushed fabric because of the looser weave).
