PATROL UPDATE
The first School Patrol reward event
has been scheduled for Thursday,
December 17. Patrols will be going
bowling at White Bear Lake Bowl from
1:00 – 3:00pm.
Students should NOT bring extra
money to spend that day for food or
arcade games. We appreciate your
support with this.

Classroom Wishlist
Our classroom is getting low on a few
supplies. If you are able to donate any
of these items to our classroom, we
would really appreciate it! We are in
need of the following items:
Pencils
Crayola Markers
Kleenex
Students could also use an old (but clean!)
sock to use as an eraser for our white boards.

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
In math, we continued working with
decimals. Students were introduced to a few new
strategies to use when adding or subtracting
bigger numbers. Students should be using which
ever method they are the most comfortable with.
Please check out links on our class web site for
more practice with decimals and place value.
In our new IB planner, students are
focusing their inquiry on Agents of Change. The
central idea of this planner is that individuals
have made contributions through language and
the arts. This week we learned about different
agents of change including Abraham Lincoln,
and Georgia O’Keeffe. The summative
assessment was explained and students had time
to brainstorm who they would like to do their
report on. We will start researching next week
and begin taking notes.
In literacy, we discussed different parts
of speech, focusing on nouns and adjectives. Ask
your child which adjective they chose to
illustrate in class. We also began to look at
poetry. Students will be writing their own poetry
next week. Our spelling words this week focused
on words with the /aw/ sound.
We also took a field trip to study island
this week.  Study island is a website set up
where students can practice different math or
reading concepts. Students may access this from
any computer and should know their login
information. (www.studyisland.com)
We are continuing to work on
demonstrating the IB learner profiles and
attitudes. Students showed a lot of creativity
when illustrating their ‘artistic adjectives’ this
week. We have also have been working on being
respectful listeners. Keep it up!

WEATHER
Please make sure your child has
appropriate clothing for winter –
coat, hat, and mittens are a must!
Don’t forget boots and snow pants
when needed. Many students have
Patrol Duty outside and need to be
prepared for any and all types of
weather.
Working with decimals in math
WILD ABOUT READING
Our class voted to participate in
the Wild About Reading contest
put on by the Minnesota Wild. We
brainstormed ideas for a class
cheer and submitted our entry.
Now we wait to see if our cheer
was chosen as one of the top 12!
