ALTAMONTE SPRINGS INNOVATION IS A-FIRST
Central Florida Citys Water Preservation System Attracts National
Attention As Others Seek Savings In Water And Tax Dollars
Attracting attention from other municipal governments around the country, the City
of Altamonte Springs innovative water conservation and preservation system is
expected to save 4.5 million gallons of water a day, !5 million in highway
construction costs and protect a precious waterway. "elieved to #e the $rst of its

changes adult #ehavior while also teaches children to conserve water.
So impressed with the Citys innovation and signi$cant cost savings, state
government agencies have partnered with Altamonte Springs to explore ways to
replicate the Altamonte&'()T *ntegrated +euse and Stormwater Treatment ,rogram
or A&'*+ST.

Springs remains de#t&free and a#le to invest in environmentally important
innovations such as A&'*+ST and lead a partnership with multiple state regulatory
agencies. Thats also why the city created AS/i, a hands&on, ST0- education and
environmental awareness program for students1 2,333 have participated since it
was created 4ust over a year ago.
5ith a long&held goal to preserve the 'lorida a6uifer and water supplies the City is
credited with creating 73 years ago, the Southeasts $rst dual water use system. A&

As a water preservation system, A&'*+ST will capture stormwater, treat it to
reclaimed water standards and pump it into storage for multiple non&drin%ing
purposes, preventing millions of gallons a day from #eing lost or wasted.

nation. State o9cials see% to replicate the system in other areas in the state.
A&'*+ST will harvest 4.5 million gallons daily creating alternative reclaimed
water supplies, and immediately reducing pollutant nutrient loads on the
:ittle 5e%iva +iver while drastically reducing the demand on 'lorida;s a6uifer.
A&'*+ST will save '()T a#out !5 million in *&4 widening pro4ect in Central
'lorida.
