Icebreaker: Giants, Elves, Wizards
20 minutes
Similar to Rock, Paper, Scissors. There are three positions giants (standing tall on tip toes with
hands in the air) wizards (hands zapping the others), elves ( crouched down low with hands as
ears). Giants crush elves, wizards zap giants and elves trick wizards. The team will seperate and
decide on one primary move and on backup. They will come to the middle and on the count of
3 show their choice.

Week two: Leadership saves society?
An investigation into the efficiency, and flaws of leaders of the Jamaica Society.
The club should select 5 "influential/ popular" leaders of society and evaluate their effectiveness,
flaws, efficiency etc.
Extract from DPP Paula Llwellyn's speech to be shared and discussed with the club:
DPP Paula Llewellyn delivered the political speech of the year at UTECH on May 28, 2024
where she provided an incisive critique on leadership and the society of Jamaica. In her speech
she illustrated the failure of leadership by arguing that some leaders are "crippled by fear" to be
decisive, or refrain from acting, not wanting to make the incorrect decision. These leaders, she
argued "aspire to lead for the wrong reason. She defines the transformational leader as one that
creates a vision so powerful that others align themselves to it; and that they have "the capacity to
enable and encourage the people they lead to shine...without falling prey to insecurity or envy".
In the context of our past colonial situation, she implied that the lack of progress in Jamaica, is a
result of ineffective leadership, and that changes in "status quo" can only become real when 'fear'
is put aside to make way for the passsion, the drive, the focus in the application of the
imagination. In other words, the fear of critique and new thinking inhibits critical imaginative
and creative thinking; abilities to examine our problems and to discover solution.
Icebreaker: Human knot
In small groups, the members will each grab hold of another person's hand at random. The group
must then reform a circle without breaking bonds.
ALL THE VERY BEST!
