Two or more singular subjects joined by or or nor must have a singular verb.
Example:
A car or bus is the only means of travel in our area.

Two or more plural subjects joined by or or nor must have a plural verb.
Example:
Only the fathers or the mothers are to be invited.

If one or more cots singular subjects are joined to one or more plural subjects by
or or nor, the subject closest to the verb determines agreement.
Example:
Neither David nor his parents are going with us.

A compound subject joined by and is generally plural and must have a plural verb.

Rules on subject verb agreement.

1,) A singular subject must have a singular verb, while a plural subject must have a
plural verb.
Ex.
The red and brown boxes (was, were) destroyed in the fire.
Marilyn (has, have) finished her work.
2.) A phrase or clause that interrupts a subject and is verb does not affed subject
verb agreement.
Ex.
The actor most admired by the students (is, are) on stage.
The climates of both countries (is, are) very good.
Our neighbour, who was abroad, (has, have) returned.
3.) Nouns that are plural in form but singular in meaning when used as a subject
take a singular verb.
Ex.
A.) Electronics (is, are) an interesting field of study.
B.) Robotics has have improved a lot for the past 10 years.
4.) Units of measurement, (ie distance a mount weight ect.) Always take a singular
verb.
Ex.
A.) One hundred kilometres (is, are) a long distance to travel.
B.) Ten pesos (is, are) never enough.

ABSTRACT NOUNS are words that represent a quality or an idea.
