Volume 3 and I ssue 4 J uly/August 2014

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen,
I will be exalted in the earth. ~ Psalm 46:10 ~

Dear Supporters and Praying Friends,

As the time approached for the Deaf Extreme Youth Camp in Kevil, Kentucky, only two teenagers had
registered. We considered cancelling the camp. When we held a car wash to raise funds, our workers shared with our
customers about the camp and the need for sponsors for the campers. Later, a man came to Harvest to give $500 for
the campers and another person gave $100. We felt as the Lord was saying, I have a
plan! In total, 16 teenagers attended the camp and we had a wonderful time with classes,
preaching, and listening to testimonies, as well as games and object lessons. Our theme for
the week was What is Truth?. We thank the Lord for all of the wonderful workers who
helped us in so many ways. By the end of the week, most of the teenagers had made
significant decisions and two brothers had turned to the Lord as their Savior. Glory to God!
We also had an opportunity to teach and preach at a youth camp in Shreveport, Louisiana. It was a great
experience and a challenge for us because the camp did not have any deaf campers. Many of the children had never
met a deaf person until they met us. A good number of children and adults were interested in learning sign language
and signed up for a sign language class taught by my wife. The church really loves deaf people and wants to start a
deaf ministry there. Amen!
Last month was our first time to travel to New York. We were able to share our ministry with several churches
and will go back in October to share with several more. We had some interesting encounters while in Syracuse. First,
we went to the State Fair with the pastor and his wife to help with a Gospel booth. While there, we met three deaf
people and were able to share the Gospel with them. One was already a believer and attends a church near Rochester,
New York. Another time, we had a minor miscommunication and entered the wrong church address into our
GPS. When we arrived at the church, we realized our error, but felt like God whispered to us, Be still, and know that I
am God. During prayer requests, a man asked prayer for the need of an interpreter for a deaf Nepali couple that
planned to enroll their children in Christian school. We realized immediately that God had a reason for us being at this
church this particular evening! The next day, we had the great privilege of meeting a deaf Bhutanese woman that
interpreted in Nepali sign language for the deaf couple. The interaction with the school administrators included an
American Sign Language interpreter, then the deaf Bhutanese woman translated into Nepali Sign Language. It was
amazing! We learned that they are born-again believers. How exciting to know that the Lord is reaching deaf Asians in
Syracuse, New York! Hallelujah!
As we close our letter, we want to praise the Lord and thank you for all of your prayers as we travel. The Lord
has protected us in every circumstance. In July, while driving to my parents house after visiting a church, our right
rear tire blew out. We put on the spare tire with my brothers help and took it to the shop the next morning. In our last
letter, we mentioned the trouble we were having with starting the car. We did not get a chance to take it to the Nissan
dealership, but while in Pennsylvania, one of our supporters took us to the shop. They ran a computer diagnostic but
found nothing wrong. They cleaned the fuel injector and the mechanic said we would need to add fuel injector cleaner
frequently. We thank the Lord for He is ALWAYS good!

Embrace in Christ,
Michael & Ruth Douglas
