...and working towards its resurrection.
For those of you who are keeping an eye on my blog courtesy of the trouble
had by EvocationMagic over the past few months, it should be said that I am
working very closely with an awesome team of folks to resurrect said forum.
Philodox is leading the charge, with myself and various others assisting where
able, and we do feel as though we are getting close to success.
With that in mind, Provenant has been so kind as to create a Facebook page
titled "EvocationMagic Diaspora
(https://www.facebook.com/groups/EM.Diaspora/)" for related discussions,
keeping up to date on the particulars, etc. If you're interested, login to
Facebook and look 'em up.
Aside from that, when anything particularly important arises for EM 2.0, I will
be posting about it here so that interested folks can stay updated.
Take care,

Warnings from Spirits (/sorcery-blog/warnings-
from-spirits)

As you can imagine, in my line of work, I spend a
great deal of time observing all manners of
behaviors. I see everything from the best folks
have to offer to the worst, both in dealing with
spirits and human beings. In truth, though our
language and respective cultures vary, we're not
all that different.
In truth, successful magic is frequently about
understanding someone or something else's
language, symbolism, cultural values, etc. A
spirit doesn't say things the way you or I do. Elemental spirits have names, but
they aren't ones that we can pronounce because we can't successfully mimic
the sounds of the Earth.
We eventually learn to come to a place of compromise with these entities we
work with, work for, serve, or remember. We come up with a language that
works for both parties and then set to the task of successfully interacting with
them.
I mention this to illustrate the fact that working with discarnate or non-corporeal
can often be a lot of guesswork. When you get to know these entities, it no
longer is, but until then they'll give you messages in dreams, random thoughts
and instincts, images in your head, or strong feelings that you can't shake.
When you've earned a spirit's favor, most times they have great interest in your
safety. You're their friend and visa versa, so like any good friend (or other such
socially intimate role), they take it upon themselves to inform you when
something's amiss. When that happens and you have dreams that aren't par
for the course or you feel things that you can't explain, be sure to pay

I've avoided many car wrecks, unstable clients, accidents with handguns or

does tend to be beneficial.
That being the case, my recommendation is to listen when your familiars, etc.

This brings me to the final point of this post: a working one can do to better

Augery & its Pitfalls (/sorcery-blog/augery-its-
pitfalls)

Augery, or divination as its colloquially known, is
a practice with deep roots & ancient origins. In
our pop culture, most everyone is aware of some
form thereof, be it Tarot, Runes, Psephoi,
Geomancy, I Ching, Khat al-Raml, or Palm
Reading.
The trouble is that, in my experience, there is
very little discussion that goes into the dangers
of various forms of augery. Those that do are
typically looked at from an uber-religious "thar-
be-demons!" perspective which is altogether
unhelpful. My intention here, is to throw a few
ideas out there to get folks thinking on this
subject.
Before the alarmists get started in, I should note that I have yet to see
someone be possessed on account of sortilege. I've ne'er had to exorcise an
unwitting victim on account of them having thrown some bones whilst
attempting to discern the future.
I have, however, been forced to involve myself when folks have screwed things
up for themselves by acting on incorrect information and, worse yet, have dealt
with situations requiring remediation on account of persons becoming too
emotional on account of what they've seen. Some individuals aren't aware of
just how their strong feelings influence the world around them, and these are
the problem children when it comes to divination.
They are troublesome they have the ability to do magical things, but
cannot control themselves. Instead, they unconsciously react to knee-jerk
inspirations and cause situations to worsen or become nigh untenable. They
either take the information to heart and start acting out in the physical realm,
or they become so damned fixated upon the negative aspects of a situation
that they reach out, metaphysically, and wonkily turn the Dharma Wheel, so to
because

speak. In doing so, workings can be jilted off-course and the scene can spin
out of control.
We often perceive what we want to see or otherwise feel the need to see, and
this can be great....it can also be really negative, as we create our realities
with our self-chatter. That internal push to be [x], do [y]. or react to [z] can
either help us or get us into a great deal of trouble.
We revert to what we're comfortable with as a point of fact, yet give relatively
little thought to how that affects us or the situations around us. This is
strangely pertinent in divination for two reasons:
1) We will usually see what we want to see.
2) We often take action on what we want to see, and that's not always good or
valid information.
Dealing with #1 is relatively easy, and #2 depends on how we deal with the
former. When getting started with divinatory work, I recommend being highly
suspicious of anything that confirms your thoughts on the matter at hand; I
would recommend going as far as to have your readings checked by someone
you trust until you get the hang of your mind's inner workings and feel that you
can accurately use cleromancy to your benefit.
It helps to stay entirely neutral and to go into the reading with purpose, but
without agenda. If your intention is to learn of the best way to handle a
situation in a way that is beneficial to you and you've suspended pointed
desire, you're generally able to get true information that's worth reacting on.
This then renders both sticking points, mentioned above, as relatively moot.
#2 is harder to deal with because we are very good at deceiving ourselves.
Worse yet, when we get something that confirms our bias, it
excites/saddens/elevates/deflates us, and so being resolved to read the truth is
necessary.
The advice I use, in short, is to stay neutral and view Tarot as entertainment TV
until the result is in. Augery should be treated with respect, and so too should
those who provide such a service. Keep an open mind with your readings, as
the information can surprise you from time to time. That has to be ok, as its
better to get correct information that bothers you than it is to get wrong
information that causes problems.

This is why I do sorcery... (/sorcery-blog/this-is-
why-i-do-sorcery)

I received some lovely feedback from a client today, and it got me thinking
about why I do sorcery. Sure, I have fun with it and find it to be utterly
fascinating, but the reality is that I engage in sorcery to touch lives, get them
back on course, and create awesome things for other people.
This is the message I got, in its unadulterated form:
"To give credit where credit is due, and discredit where
that is due, until I dropped that dead weight who shall
remain nameless, and you performed your healing, I
simply didn't have the motivation or energy to go to the
gym and kept finding excuses, even though there's one
just around the corner and I have a membership.
The one time I went, I couldn't walk for a week.
I've got much more of a spring in my step today, and to
quote james brown, I feel good :-)"
That vibe is contagious - to cause folks to go from being utterly run down to
feeling like they're on the top of the world is , and that word doesn't uplifting

Magical Grids (/sorcery-blog/magical-grids)

I've realized I've been a bit lax in sharing pertinent
ideas and practices here, over the past few
months, so I thought it time to post a bit. With
that in mind, I've been contemplating &
experimenting with the idea of using magical grids,
mandalas, and so forth when doing work for quite
some time now. The idea first struck me many
years ago, and I lazily pursued it at the time, only
to have my interest rekindled by Gordon over at
Rune Soup when he talked about Sigil Shoaling
(http://runesoup.com/2010/06/shoaling-making-sigil-magic-more-awesome-
since-2010/). This pattern of pursuing the idea, then losing sight of it, then
pursuing it again has repeated on and on for many years now, and so I am
making a conscious effort to put it into practice once again.
As I do so, I am finding that several things happen. Firstly, the vibrational feel
of the working picks up considerably. Secondly, this causes results to
manifest more quickly. And thirdly, it just feels right; something clicks into
place and suddenly the individual workings that felt very much alive to start
rapidly develops palpable depth and breadth. The workings begin to dance with
each other, develop their own music, and then go on to live as if they're
villagers that have shuffled out into the world.
Tweet 0
Incidentally, since I started doing this, I now get asked if I'm a musician every
other day or so. I love and adore music, but lack the aptitude to create it
outside of the creation of sung or whispered charms and such.
Getting back to it, grids, as I'll call them here, can be crafted and shaped in
any number of ways with whatever materials you so choose. You can use
numerology, sacred geometry, aesthetic balance, elemental associations,
astrological meanings, tarot cards, playing cards, bones, runes, psephoi,
colors, and so on and so forth until you've built up a truly impressive and
massive magical grid (how's that for a tongue twister, eh?).
Above is one such grid that I use in my home alongside other workings. When
inclined to do so, I often elect to branch out from what you see above and
connect this grid to smaller gridded workings like you see below.
The possibilities, potentialities, and arrangements are pretty much limitless in
theory. In reality, they are limited by space and materials. In my case, I limit
the size of the workings to 2 altar tops' worth for the sake of not making too
much of a mess. :)
When setting up such a system, its useful to take the intention, available
materials, and available space into account. Don't go above and beyond what
you can feasibly control, lest it bite you on the rear end at a later date.
I suggest starting small, first by considering the numerical value you want to
utilize. I am partial to letter-based systems of divination a la psephoi (aka the
Greek Alphabet Oracle) and the runic Futharks, planetary, and elemental
magic, so I tend to arrange grids around those ideas.
If I were to make a fire-related grid for spiritual illumination, I would utilize the
numbers 3 and 7, as they strike me as being active and relatively fiery in
nature. I'd utilize 7 different types of materials, be they sigils
, oils
, vegetebilia
mineralia
, candles , charms
, animalia
, uttered or written
prayers, energy work, and so forth. I tend to use whatever is available to me -
(Fire symbols
from various books, the tattva for fire, picture of a salamander) (Fire
From Heaven, Bend Over, Commanding) (Cinquefoil, ash,
Blessed Thistle, Devil's Claw) (obsidian, glass, tempered metal, or
fire agate) (red, orange, jet blue) (against Evil Eye, dragon
pendant, all seeing eye) (lawfully and humanely harvested bones,
sinew, misc. viscera from salamanders, geckos, fire-bellied toads, coyotes,
rattlesnakes, vultures, scorpions, mountain lions)
you may or may not have certain limitations, so use whatever you're
comfortable with.
Were I to utilize Lunar magic, I'd do the same thing with the numbers 5 and 8.
For Jupiter work, I'd use 4 and 7, and so on and so forth, mixing and matching
to my heart's content.
With any luck, this post will have provided you with plenty of ideas for magical
workings that you could do in the future.
Enjoy your Saturday, folks!

Starting May off Right! (/sorcery-blog/starting-
may-off-right)

Last month was a doozy for most of the folks I've talked to -
folks had weird crap pop up out of nowhere, relationship
problems, trouble at work, issues with their homes, and
this, that, and the other random thing occurring, driving
everyone just a little bit insane.
There is, however, a light in the darkness in that by now, most of the rubble
has been sorted through and we've started a new month. That being the case,
I propose a turn of luck and suggest that we all start the new month off right!
That being the case, I am offering dual-purpose rites to
folks through this blog. These will be available for purchase until the 15th of
May and will command the cost of 100$ per target. If you've been having
trouble, hit me up and we'll see what we can do for you!

Meditate more! (/sorcery-blog/meditate-more)

Often times, we forget just how important our spiritual practices are. I've had
more than a few conversations with folks from the various generations who still
walk upon the Earth, and more often than not, people seem to fall on one
extreme or another: either meditation and the like is total hokum, or its the be-
all, end-all when it comes to keeping one safe and sane in these troubled
times.
Truth be told, there seem to be more naysayers than folks of the latter group.
Generally speaking, it has been my experience that the ones who engage in a
healthy spiritual regimen tend to be better off than those who don't, and I
recently had a client confirm this for me.
The client in question has had a really rough time of late. Her partner
abandoned her after breaking her down and basically made her lose any desire
to really move forward in life. This is why she sought out my assistance, as
she felt like she needed guidance to get through the rather craptaculous mess
that had become her world. In keeping with that goal, I started her on some
Buddhist mantras and meditation as a daily practice, and she was kind enough
to provide me with some great feedback. This is what she said:

"Gosh Chris!!!! If this keeps up I'll be stronger than I've
ever been. I am assuming it is connected with what you
are doing at your end. I haven't felt this good and
future focused in years!!!!!!
There's been a real shift, in my mood and in my emotional
regulation. My self confidence, my strength, my
determination and my focus is coming back.
I didn't even have time to spend a lot of time with the
Yantra or even do the Mantra today (I listened to it for
an hour while driving to work).
I am planning to get my motorbike licence and am actually
excited about something for the first time in years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it's early days, but it is so good to be coming
back to myself.
I had to let you know.
Thank you"
I share this with you not as a shameless self-plug, but as a reminder that we
live in some really crazy, whirlwind times - its easy to get caught up in all of
the drama we deal with, but its often important to take a step back and simply
let it all go. By doing so and then seeking out and following through with the
appropriate spiritual work, we tend to make ourselves a hell of a lot happier.
We find ourselves again and doing so makes it that much easier for us to deal
with the hustle & bustle of everyday life.
The TL:DR version of this is simply "Meditate more!" Spend some time getting
to know yourself inside and out, and then use what you learn to better your life.
If you find that you're not sure how to fix something and need help, that's what
I'm here for.
Take care, folks, and don't let your well-being fray in the midst of this chaos.

Over the years, I've encountered a lot of different, strange occurrences. They've
more or less become the norm for me, and as a result, I've discovered that its
incredibly important to keep up with both protective and purificative work to
ensure that I stay in ship shape - you can't be very helpful if you're under
attack, as your focus is shifted elsewhere.
Protective magical work takes many forms, can be done in a nearly infinite
number of ways, and is more or less effective depending on what's going on.
Some workings provide a bigger safety blanket, whereas others only work on
small things. The jury's out on what's the most effective, as bigger workings
don't usually get that specific - I find that they usually have small cracks that
stuff can get through, as you're only as well protected as you are specific.
With that in mind, I thought I'd write up an article on various means of
protecting oneself, including rituals, prayers, an incense blend, and some
generalized insight.
These are the most common forms of protective magic that I am aware of:
Prayers
Sigils
Runes/Bind Runes
Incense blends
Crystals
Witch bottles
Apotropaic statues
Candle magic
Talismans
In this thread, I'll be discussing sigils, prayers, and an incense blend that can
be used to do different things. My goal is to provide you with building blocks,
and It'll be up to you to weave your own system from there.
To start, one of the simplest things you can do is to create a sigil for your
intended purpose, inscribe it onto a talisman, and then carry said talisman.
The use of the physical object will naturally ground your magical work in the
physical realm, thereby making it considerably more effective here.
You can formulate sigils however you like. Some prefer to use an alphabet of
desire, others use runes, alchemical symbols, or other drawings, and others
just doodle whatever feels right to them. No one method is the best - its just a
matter of what works for you.
As an example, here's a general protection symbol:
If you decide that you want to get more specific, here's a fiscal protection
symbol:
As you can see from the above symbols, they are relatively simple and
uncomplicated at first glance. Trying to break them down and make sense of
what each individual component means, however, will take you a fair deal of
time to accomplish.
Once comfortable with the above two, you can venture in to working with and
managing the energies of something like this hypersigil:
Make no mistake, the above is not for general use and would probably be
rather harmful for anyone who tried to utilize it without understanding exactly
what it means. The point in showing this, however, is to cause folks to
understand that there are many different levels of magical work one can do.
Some of it is simple enough, and other workings are far more intensive.
The more complex a mechanism is, the more energy it takes to power it - its
simple physics, taken to a metaphysical level.
Once you've got your base sigil in hand, your next task is to consecrate it.
This can be done in any number of ways, but prayer and incense are the most
common.
Prayers can take many forms. Some are brief and concise, whereas others are
terribly grandiloquent and long. You could utilize the Orphic Hymns for an
appropriate spirit, or you could simply write your God, Goddess, spirit,
etc/whatever a letter asking for assistance while providing an offering. It is,
again, up to you.
One such prayer commonly used by Christians is St. Patrick's Breastplate,
which is about 1600 years old (according to some sources). It's as follows:
"I bind unto myself today the power of God to hold and
lead, His eye to watch, His might to stay, His ear to
hearken to my need: the wisdom of my God to teach, His
hand to guide, His shield to ward; the Word of God to
give me speech, His heavenly host to be my guard.
Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me,
Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort me and restore me, Christ beneath me,
Christ above me, Christ in the hearts of all that love me,
Christ in the mouth of friend and stranger.
I bind unto myself the Name, the strong Name of the
Trinity, by invocation of the same, the Three in One, and
One in Three, of Whom all nature hath creation; Eternal
Father, Spirit, Word: praise to the Lord of my salvation,
salvation is of Christ the Lord. Amen.
I bind myself to God's power to guide me, God's might to
uphold me, God's wisdom to teach me, God's Eye to watch
over me, God's Ear to hear me, God's way to lie before
me, God's shield to shelter me, God's host to secure
me...Against the snares of demons, against the seductions
of vices, against the lusts of nature, against everyone
who meditates injury to me, whether far or near, few or
many."
Another common prayer is Psalm 91:
"The one who lives under the protection of the Most High
dwells in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say[a] to the Lord, My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.
He Himself will deliver you from the hunters net,
from the destructive plague.
He will cover you with His feathers;
you will take refuge under His wings.
His faithfulness will be a protective shield.
You will not fear the terror of the night,
the arrow that flies by day,
the plague that stalks in darkness,
or the pestilence that ravages at noon.
Though a thousand fall at your side
and ten thousand at your right hand,
the pestilence will not reach you.
You will only see it with your eyes
and witness the punishment of the wicked.
Because you have made the Lordmy refuge,
the Most Highyour dwelling place,
no harm will come to you;
no plague will come near your tent.
For He will give His angels orders concerning you,
to protect you in all your ways.
They will support you with their hands
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the young lion and the serpent.
Because he is lovingly devoted to Me,
I will deliver him;
I will protect him because he knows My name.
When he calls out to Me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble.
I will rescue him and give him honor.
I will satisfy him with a long life
and show him My salvation."
If you're not Christian or Jewish, and would prefer to use something that doesn't
invoke the Judeo-Christian god's name, you could just as easily use another
prayer instead.
For example, a common one for Muslims is from Abu Dawud 2/89:
In Arabic (transliterated):
"Allaahumma 'innaa naj'aluka fee nuhoorihim wa na'oothu
bika min shuroorihim."
Translated to English:
"O Allah, we ask You to restrain them by their necks and
we seek refuge in You from their evil."
If you are from a Hindu or Tibetan Buddhist sect, you could use the mantras for
a specific Bodhisattva or deity depending on who or what you follow. I
frequently use the following blurb of my own creation during my work:
"Maa Ji, I ask for your compassion and aid in this, my
time of need. I find myself surrounded by foes who
seek to do me harm and my weapons are not sufficient.
Lend me your aid and trample my foes. Cut the heads off
the wicked, as you did Brahma and suck the life out of
these demons!
Om Kalike Shakti Hum"
In following with my own gnosis, after offering such a prayer, I almost always
follow with physical offerings to attract the attention, aid, and favor of the spirit
in question.
This is where incense, oils, perfumes, candles, and so forth come in. To stick
to the script, so to speak, this is one of the blends I use as an offering and
protective incense:
1 part dragon's blood (daemonorops or dracaena/calamus genii- do
not use croton!)
1/2 part benzoin
1 part lavender flowers
1 part copal
1/4 part rue
1/4 part asafoetida
2 parts rose petals
Use a mortar and pestle to grind up each part until you've achieved your
desired consistency. When done, you're welcome to add a couple of drops of
rose absolute to really oomph up the mixture, but that's not necessary.
This mixture is meant to be burned on a charcoal disc like the 3 Kings brand -
this can be found in your local metaphysical shop or online with a bit of
searching.
Feel free to experiment and branch out as you feel inclined to do so. Be
careful and consider the properties of the herbs and resins used so that you
don't include something that can be used against you. Myrrh, for example, is a
wonderful substance when used properly - if you load intention into it, it tends
to work for you, but if you don't, it can be twisted and used against you by
someone who knows how to do so.
Now you've got the basic tools necessary to craft your own protective
workings. Mix them up and experiment. Should you require further advice,
you're welcome to hit me up and ask away.
Regards,
