%hat may be ca!!ed *spontaneous mediumship* is experienced by many
persons not c!aiming mediumistic powers, and not understanding the
nature o$ the phenomena mani$esting to and through themse!es. Such
persons at times are conscious o$ the presence o$ spirit $riends, and
may een catch g!impses o$ them either in the $orm o$ a menta! image
impressed upon their minds by the spirit $riends, or e!se by a more or
!ess c!ear partia! materia!i0ation. Sometimes raps mani$est themse!es
in their icinity, and tab!es and !ight artic!es o$ $urniture may
mani$est moement at their touch or approach. Such persons, not
understanding the !aws o$ spirit mani$estation, are $re1uent!y great!y
distressed, or een $rightened, by such mani$estations2 and in not a $ew
cases they experience considerab!e annoyance and grie$ by reason o$ the
