Jharkhand Tribal Development Program( JTDP)
Society for integrated development has been working with JTDS on two
MWS in Eight villages at block Bundu, Ranchi since December 2006. JTDP
is an IFAD assisted programme. The objective of the programme is:
To develop and implement a replicable model that ensures household
food security and improves livelihood opportunities and overall quality of
life of the tribal population based on sustainable and equitable use of natural
resources. To achieve the following the programme would :

* Empower tribal grass root associations and user groups, including


women and other marginal groups, so that they would become more capable
to plan, implement and manage their own development and negotiate with
relevant authorities to harness the necessary resources.

* promote activities which generate sustainable increase in production


and productivity of land and water resources.

* Generate alternative source of income outside agriculture


particularly for Landless.

Main components of the programme are :-

1)Community Development.
2). Gender & Equity.
3) Microfinance.
4) Forestry.
5) Aquaculture.
6) Agriculture.
7) Land and water management
8) Health.
1) Community Development -: First of all SID team has visited the
programmed area and has done a brief survey. After that in all the
villages GRAM Sabha has formed and strengthening them. Before the
programme 70% of the villagers don’t know about the strength of the
gram sabha.In each villages there has formed a PEC (programme
Execution Committee) for the execution of the programme because all
the work under this programme has been doing through the Gram
sabha. Now in each village Gram sabha is held in every month in
which all the GS members came and discuss about their development
and keep their record. All the important decision has taken in the GS
with 70-80% majority. Gram pradhan is the chairperson of the GS.

2) Gender & Equity:-


* The major emphasis was given on the Gender & Equity
concern hence it has been encapsulated in the program strategy to ensure
equitable ant sustainable development of target community.

* The special attention was given to the marginalized section of


the society particularly Women and Landless .
* In each committee and work it has been focusing that
percentage of Male, Female and poorest family should be equal.
* For the community awareness and sensitization various
training on NREGA,RTI Act 2005, Sanitation, Nutrition, Immunization
and Reproductive child and health has organized among the community.
*There has been made livelihood related Plan for Landless in the
Gram sabha . About 160 villagers(30%of total household) insured
under Janshree Bima yojana and oriental insurance.

3) Microfinance:-SID has formed total 26 female SHGs in eight villages.


Primarily in all the SHG, SID team has spread the concept of SHG. Now all
the SHG has been doing their Weekly meeting, saving of Rs.5/- per week
each member and taking their own decision for develop themselves .Time to
time SID has given Training on Book & Record keeping ,on MYRADA
module and taken them on EXPOSURE visit to the other successful SHG.

Clusterization : Our 25 SHG formed a cluster. All the 25 SHG are the
member of this cluster . In the cluster meeting two members
from each SHG’s are participate. Now our cluster is going to work on Rural
Business Hub (RBH) project sponsored by central Government with
UDHYOGINI. In which they will work on Lac cultivation and their
marketing.

4) Forestry:- Under forestry there has formed CFMEC(community forest


management execution committee) in each villages for making plan to
develop their Forest and enhance their Livelihood through NTFP and forest
product. In the year 2007-08 about 7000 of plants(Gamhar and sagwan)
planted in about 5-6 acre of land and in 2008-09 about 10000 plants of
Gamhar, sagwan and Mahogini has planted in about 12 acre of land.
A nursery has established by an SHG Kisan mahila samiti,Kuchidih.
50 % plants for the programmed area supplied through this nursery . one
SHG SITA mahila samiti Bhurkunda has engaged in Agroforestry, in which
they produce elephant foot with Gamhar. Lac cultivation training has given
to the CFMEC members in ILRI .

5) Aquaculture-: There has been organizing Two field level training and
one exposure visit to the farmer for fishery as an extra livelihood option.
After the training and exposure visit farmers of the programmed area has
taken interest in the fishery and about 60% production has increased within
two year. In the year 2007-2008 about 85,000 fingerlings has sown in the
programmed area’s pond but in the year 2008-09 about 1,80,000 of
fingerlings has sown in the pond. Increase in Buying fingerlings is about
110%. One SHG Hanswahini mahila samiti,jamgami has been doing
duckery and one farmer has establishing Nursery for fingerlings. Now there
has been spreading the concept of Integrated fish farming (piggery -
Duckery –fishery).

6) Agriculture:- In the programmed area all the villagers has been doing
only Paddy crops and depends upon it. Only about 10% of villagers has been
doing vegetables in their Kitchen garden. SID has given training on Paddy
crops by scientific way SRI, on vegetables crops and cereals crops to them.
Now about 45% of total household has been doing vegetables
crops(potato.Tomato,Brinjal etc).

The field level training with the progressive farmers has been
organized on the agriculture packages and practices on the different high
yielding and the improved varieties of crops such as up land paddy, low land
paddy, tomato Brinjal Groundnut pegion pea, chick pea potato, wheat.further
for the promotion of organic farming field level training on vermicompost
have been organized . Now about 06 farmers has established their own
vermi-compost Pit.

To raise the ‘healthy vegetable seedlings’ and To promote ‘protected


agriculture cultivation’ ,In two villages Jamgami and Haludih ,Green
polyhouse has been establishing .
7)Land and water management:- JTDP is an Integrated watershed
development programmed. Under this, GSRMP(Gram sabha Resource
management Plan) has been made with the Help of villagers and By the
villagers. Under GSRMP process first of all, the villagers has visited with
SID team in their geographical area and demarked the problem and also give
their suggestion to solve them. All these written and made the plan for
improvement their land formation ,agriculture, Livestock ,forestry and
aquaculture .under land & water management component following works
has completed and in progress:-

8) Health-: There has been organizing one health camp in each village in
each month. In the camp there is a doctor and medicine has been providing
free of cost. In the case of critical illness Doctor refers patients to the
nearest hospital .
