What is test-out?

Test-out is a unique opportunity to earn course credit without taking the class. Almost any course
can be tested out of (internships and capstone excluded). Generally, a test out can serve you well
for a subject area in which you already have experience or knowledge; thus, sometimes courses in
your major can be tested out of (especially if you are working in the field of your subject area), and
sometimes a general education course is a good option. Course syllabi are available by clicking on
the appropriate link on the home/syllabus page of this course.

What is the cost and how do I register?
The cost for one course is $150 (nonrefundable and not eligible for financial aid), and it gives you
access to a course "shell" after you pay and register through the payment link on the homepage
(also listed below).
Please note: A receipt is available upon request.

What is the course like?
After you register, you are admitted to a course shell which means that you have access to the
entire content of the course, but there are no instructor or peers. After you have paid your
registration, it usually takes a couple of days for us to set up your access to the class.
Familiarize yourself with the course material (i.e., modules, lectures, and potentially, a textbook) to
the extent that will enable you to complete the test out assignments as described in the course.
Depending on the nature of the class, the assignments could be: an exam, paper, project, or all
homework assignments. You will know what you need to do from the start. Please complete and
submit your work directly in Canvas and notify the test out coordinator when you have submitted
all the test-out requirements.

How will my work be evaluated?
We ask for 2 weeks turn around time (though it is usually less); on rare occasion, it could be
longer. It is vital, as you do your work, that you are aware of the course competencies as described
in the syllabus, and that you are clear about what the assignment(s) is/are asking of you. If you need
further clarification, please ask the test out coordinator (contact information is provided on the
homepage, and below), since you are only given one opportunity to submit your work, with no
revisions. The evaluator of your work will be determining if you have demonstrated your proficiency
in areas integral to the course.
Note: Please contact the Test-Out Coordinator when you have submitted all of your work.
As long as you earn a C grade or better on all of the assignments you will get credit for the course
and you can move on. The grade does not calculate into your GPA (it is considered Transfer
credit). If you do not earn a C or above (and that includes if you allow the time to elapse without
having completed the test out) you would need to take the course itself.
Note: Remember, there is no re-submission on test out assignments, and no re-take of any courses.

How long do I have to complete the course?
You have a maximum of one semester to complete the course, so please be careful to only sign up
after you have considered the course syllabus, the general description of the assessment, and your
own schedule and test-out program policies (i.e., there is no re-do). If you sign up in the period
between semesters, you will have until the end of the following semester to complete the course
Please note: If you are in a test-out course between semesters, there will be course maintenance
going on and the course could be unavailable to you for a period of time.
