Coming October 3rd, we will enjoy a night of laughter as we watch a new dvd from Christian Comedian Tim Hawkins. You wont want to miss this. We will make popcorn and have drinks so all you need to do is show up. Why not bring a friend? We will start at 7 p.m. This event is for our entire church family.
THOUGHTS FROM BRAD
I want to begin my article by saying, Thank you to Tim & Marie Huffman for hosting our fall bonfire last Sunday night. Everyone had a great time sharing the evening together and connecting with one another. Our next evening of fellowship is schedule for Friday night, October 3 rd as we enjoy the comedy of Tim Hawkins. Check out the details on the front page of todays newsletter. We hope you and some friends join us.
Our new elective entitled, Respectable Sins, has been challenging to say the least. Seven of us make up this group but there is always room for others. Its not too late to start participating and you can still pick up a copy of our text book from Brad today. We meet in the fellowship hall at 6:15 every Wednesday night.
Today we continue on in our Bold series on the theme: Bold prayers. It is my prayer that through this series, we move away from timidity and be BOLD as His disciples in prayer, example, life, speech and obedience. Lets amaze the world with our boldness that is born out of belief!
Today I want to take a moment to encourage some of you who do not tithe at the church to begin doing so. If you remember when Jesus was approached by the Rich young ruler he was adamant that he had kept all the commandments and he wanted badly to inherit eternal life. So Jesus told him There is still one thing you have not done. Sell all your possessions and give to the poor and you will have treasure in Heaven. Then come follow me. The Bible says after those words were spoken, the man walked away very sad because he was rich. Many today struggle with this same sin problem. You see, many today think what they have is theirs because they believe they have amassed what they have on their own. Jesus ended that story as he responded to his disciples who had given much by saying, I assure you that everyone who has given up house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the Kingdom of God will be repaid many times over in this life, and will have eternal life in the world to come.
Now, our motivation for giving is not Im buying my way into Heaven because we cant do that. It is only by Gods grace we have eternal life. But, Jesus used this story as a means to show his demand that He is either Lord of all, or not Lord at all. Trust him with your finances and I assure you that You cannot out give Him. God is good!

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE
PERSONAL NOTE: I just want to pass along my personal appreciation to all of you who are so faithful in your participation here at Fifth Avenue. It is encouraging that so many of you are lending your talents in many areas. Let me challenge all of us to take a look at volunteer needs and see if we might be able to lend a hand in one of the several areas of need.
MI DWEEK BI BLE STUDI ES: Our two study groups are continuing each Wednesday. Our morning group meets at 10:00 am and the evening session is at 6:30. I invite any who are interested to join us for our current Brief Survey of Old Testament History. Study outlines are available. It is not too late to join either of the groups. (This week we continued our examination of the creation and the flood.)
OCTOBER EVENT: Thursday, October 16, is the date for our trip to Amish Country and the David Warther Museum. David Warther is a skilled craftsman following in the footsteps of his very talented father and grandfather. Davids specialty is the carving of miniature ships, from ancient to more modern. A feature article, on his work, appeared in the September 14 issue of Country Living. After our museum tour, we will have lunch at the Dutch Valley Restaurant and visit our favorite cheese shops in the afternoon. The cost, for travel and museum admission, will be $15 per person. We will depart at 7:30 am and return in late afternoon. A sign-up sheet is posted. Payment is due at signup.
FUTURE EVENTS: In November, I am encouraging all of our seniors to participate in our churchs annual Thanksgiving dinner, on November 16. Our friend, Tom Shelton, will be providing entertainment. On December 11, we are planning a special catered lunch for our Keenagers and friends.
FI NAL THOUGHT: Life expectancy is increasing. You can expect about anything these days.

Special Officers (elected each year to a one-year term): Sunday School Superintendent Marg Shumaker, Financial Secretary Jean Azbell, Financial Treasurer Julie Stuck, Assistant to the Treasurer Patrick Wersell, Missions Secretary-Treasurer From your Mission Committee: Each month we will be featuring a mission we support. We want you to know about them and be glad about the good they do. This month we are featuring IDES.
IDES stands for International Disaster Emergency Service. It is not a ministry unto itself. It is a ministry that partners with Christian Churches/Churches of Christ in the United States and their missionaries overseas. All their projects touch on caring for the poor, the sick, the hungry, and the homeless. Their other objective is that those they help hear the Good News about Jesus. In the month of September they will have distributed $181,374.50. (This total is down). It will go to parts of the world affected by some disaster like: India, Kenya, Thailand, Haiti, Pakistan, Panama, Philippines, and Myanmar. We send them $150.00 each month.
Im hungry Im scared: We hear these words from our families from time to time. But true hunger or terror is not something we know much about. I used to hear the phrase our poorest people are better off than the poor in the world. I didnt comprehend what that meant, but one only has to follow the news to hear and see what real hunger and terror mean. Thank God we can help them!

Delores Payne will be teaching a class on how to make a crocheted or knitted sky cap. Anyone interested in participating in this project will need to bring 1 skein of Red Heart variegated worsted weight yarn, a size 6 14- inch knitting needle or a size G or H crochet hook, and a yarn needle to sew a seam. The sky cap is a simple tube shape with a bit of decrease at the crown. The variegated color makes a very interesting pattern.
If you do not wish to make the sky cap, please bring any craft you are already working on and spend the morning in fellowship with other crafters!
Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:
Christ-Centered Worship We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace- based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).
Church Health and Biblical Balance Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)
Global Evangelism We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon- Coming King (Acts 20:27).
Fellowship and Ministry After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.
Discipleship We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.
Social Conscience We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
OUR PURPOSE
WE EXIST TO
Exalt Gods Greatness; Evangelize Gods Work Equip Gods People Express Gods Love through Jesus Christ
OUR MISSION To Love God and Love People! How Can I Respond Today? At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member. If you would like to take a Curious class, please indicate this on your Silent Roll Call Card. Bold Prayers Acts 4 Brad Seevers preaching
