INTERPRETIVE PHENOMENOLIGICAL ANALYSIS

Objectives:
1) To be able to observe and describe the structure of a place of worship.
2) To observe and highlight the concept of the sacred and the profane in common religious
places of worship.
3) To observe social interaction inside and outside the church.
4) To establish feelings of social stratification in the context of religion.
5) To describe social cohesion and regulation in the context of religion.
6) To describe how religion is a source of political power.

1) Describe your church or place of worship? A Place where we talk to God, sing songs of praises,
and pray.
2) What are examples of relatively ordinary and important things inside your church or place of
worship? Tabernacle; Chalice; Host; Wine; Cross
3) Is there a difference between faith in God/Allah and Religion? Yes, there is
4) Why do you go to church or place of worship? I want to talk to God.
5) Do you act differently inside a church or place of worship as compared to being elsewhere?
Why? Yes, because I consider the place sacred while other places profane.
6) When you are in church or a place of worship with others, do you feel that you can commune
with others in that place? Yes, because through prayers and worship we become united.
7) Give examples of instances when you felt that there is a hierarchy or arrangement of people in
your church or place of worship? None
8) In what ways do people in your church exercise power? This power is given to the priest.
Without him the mass will not transpire.
9) Describe how your religion is political in nature? The church is political in nature because they
involve themselves in making decisions for the state.
10) How has your life become more meaningful because of religion? Religion has pushed me to
find meaning and purpose in my day to day living.
