Pre-construction Work

The works listed herein are the major items of work which precedes construction work. Any other
essential works not specifically mentioned herein but complement the construction works shall be
considered by the Contractor, and provide in his rates and prices.

(1). Survey of existing Service Connections (2).
Geo-Technical Investigations.
Locate existing utility services in the roads where new pipes are required to be laid or
reinforced or rehabilitated (identified from the network model) using tracer or detection
equipment and recording data. The Contractor is required to have such equipment but require
approval of the Engineer prior to use.

(3). Carry out excavation of trial trenches, trial pits as required at suitable intervals in the
roads identified form the GIS model or - others- as directed by Engineer 1:0--determlnitthe
exact location of underground utilities, existing water pipelines etc. The parameters such
as pipe diameter, pipe condition, pipe material, depth, soil conditions and proximate distance to
other utilities shall be recorded. Trial trenches will be also for the purpose of identifying the
suitable traces for the new lines to be laid and the trial pits will be required for determining the
joint details to be provided for joining the new pipe to the system.

(4). Carryout CCTV surveys or other suitable method for pipes to ascertain the interior condition of
pipes surfaces, any leakage points etc. in order to determine the type of no- dig technology to be
used.

(5). Carry out condition assessment of the pipes by non-destructive methods to fmd the structural
integrity in order to confirm the type of no-dig technique to be adopted.

(6). For other buried utilities such as sewer mains, electric cables, telecommunication cables, fiber optic
cables , parameters such as alignment, level, distance to existing water line/s, name of utility,
etc. shall be recorded in GIS and also photographed following excavation of trial trenches or
trial pits.

(7). Carryout LSS survey using Total Station Survey method of all roads based on
the model, along lines where new pipes are to be laid and where no-dig
technologies will be adopted and as required for providing feeder connections.

(8). With reference to the workscarried outabove, carry out designs and prepare detailed
drawings for pipe laying with necessary depths, gradients etc., junctions, branch
details, culverts, bridge &railway crossings, connection to existing mains,
complete with valve chambers, surface boxes, wash outs, thrust blocks, road
reinstatement works etc. Standard drawings provided may be used with
modifications as relevant. Contractor shall also carry out any other designs and
detailed drawing as required to make the works complete.

(9). Carry out all necessary topographic surveys, soils investigations, laboratory analyses
or related investigations where necessary. Attention is drawn to the following
specific Contractor's responsibilities: the need to carry out regular soil pH and
soil resistivity measurement to determine the type of corrosion protection for
ductile iron pipes; the need to determine the bearing pressure at the location of
each thrust block; and the need to ascertain the actual conditions of the existing
pipelines to be connected to the new distribution systems
