1.3 Application and major functions

The motor drive shall be used to actuate the regulator connected to it of type OLTC,
and to correctly bring in action the relaying into the regulation diapason.

The run is transmitted to OLTC consequently by means of a fast motion ( 440 revs
per min.) motor drive outgoing shaft, vertical shaft, bevel gear / i =1:1/ and a
horizontal shaft. The shafts are interconnected by means of small range cardan
connectors.

The running is made from the start switch of the engine regime and also by remote
control mechanism. For checks and tunings manual actuation is also possible.

The motor drive MZ - 4.4 has been supplied with all necessary protective devices
and signaling system such as: final electrical and mechanical interlocks, or blocking
at manual manipulation; switch to a single step with continuous compressed button,
automatic passing through dead position, signaling lamps, switch counter.

There is a function to normal position in the case when the out-going shaft is
rotated in the wrong direction as a result of an incorrect phase sequence of the
supply voltage.

Every tap change operation, interrupted due to break of supply voltage is
automatically completed after restoring of the power supply.

Provision has been made to prevent uncontrolled serial switchings caused by an
internal failure in the power control or failure to switch to the normal position (slide-
off) due to inertia.

A number displays the current operative status and is indicated either by means of an
arrow which is seen in the motor drive monitoring screen or the remote control via an
analogous or digital position indication. The readings of the normal position
indicator are displayed on the signal board near the indicating arrow and so is the
counter notifying of the number of switchings having been done.

All elements of the motor drive are mounted in protective cabinet made of aluminum
alloy and are accessible for servicing.

To avoid accumulation of condensates, the inner space is heated by heating devices
actuated by a thermostat (optionally, a hygrostat).

6.2. Circuit diagram

The circuit diagram of the motor drive mechanism is fully in compliance with the
requirements of IEC 60214.

6.2.1. Electrical circuits

In the motor drive mechanism four types of electrical circuits are isolated:
- Power circuit provides the supply of the electrical motor;

- Operating circuit includes the elements, providing the control and correct
functioning of the OLTC and the signalization of the work condition;

- Auxiliary circuit includes the contact socket, the movable lamp and the heater;

Circuits for remote information of the work position of the OLTC.

This division allows the operation voltage to be different from the phase voltage of
the power supply (as it is in the standard production) or to be direct current.

The power circuit is protected with a maximum current and thermal protection, and
the operational and auxiliary with maximum current.

6.2.2. Operating principle
6.2.2.1. Commissioning

When supplying a control impulse from the switch SL-R of the motor drive
mechanism (when the switch S3 is in position local) or from the remote control
panel in the control room (or a signal from an automatic regulator of voltage), when
the switch S3 is in position remote, the motor drive mechanism is set into motion
and one tap-change operation is performed of the OLTC in the respective direction.

6.2.2.2. Step control

The electric diagram sets in motion the OLTC only at one full step if there are signals,
which are constant or repeated nonstop, as well as simultaneous from different
sources during one switching operation. This is provided also in the cases of ground
fault or disconnection of a control conductor.
6.2.2.3. End devices
When reaching one of the end steps, the motor drive mechanism cannot continue its
motion in this direction when fed with a new control impulse (first electrical lock).

INSTRUCTION
FOR MOUNTING,OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF
MOTOR DRIVE MECHANISM TYPE Z - 4.4
EA 747 e
Page 15 / 20

6.2.2.4. Protection for the direction of the revolution

In case, the phase sequence of the power supply is not observed, the KF relay does
not close its contact and blocks the power supply of the operational circuit.
6.2.2.5. Restarting device

When restoring the supply voltage in cases of eventual power supply off during the
switching operation, the motor drive mechanism is restarted in the same direction, in
which it has been rotating and finishes its cycle.
6.2.2.6. Locking device for overload

When the working conditions of the transformer require such device, the circuit
diagram provides stopping of the process of switching over of the OLTC. After
normalizing the rate of the current, the motor drive completes the switching
operation.
6.2.2.7. Locking devices for the control
When the operation conditions of the transformer require locking of the switching of
the OLTC in certain conditions (for example: low temperature of the oil) locking of the
control of the motor drive mechanism is possible.
6.2.2.8. Automatic passing through dead steps

It is performed without stopping and new command.
6.2.2.9. Protection from undesired serial switching operations

It is provided in cases, when, for some reason (welded contacts of the control
contactor, skipping the normal position due to large inertia moments, wrong signal for
dead step, and others) the motor drive mechanism does not stop in normal position
after switching one step its disconnects the power breaker QFM during breakdown.

ATTENTION!

The circuit diagram of the motor drive mechanism provides a self-check of the
apparatuses. If any of the apparatuses shows a defect usually the breaker QFM
switches off after setting in motion the motor drive mechanism in the area of the
normal position!!

6.3. Terminal blocks
In the lower part of the protective cabinet of the motor drive mechanism the clients
terminal blocks are situated.

INSTRUCTION
FOR MOUNTING,OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF
MOTOR DRIVE MECHANISM TYPE Z - 4.4
EA 747 e
Page 16 / 20

The terminal block 1 is designed for power supplying the motor drive mechanism.

From terminal block 3 are coming the control signals and contacts, providing
information for the working condition of the motor drive.

From the terminal blocks are coming different types of signals (in compliance with
the requirements of the client) for the working position of the OLTC.

The connection of the terminal blocks is done in compliance with the diagram in the
pocket of the door of the motor drive mechanism.

7. Assembly of the motor drive mechanism to the
transformer tank

DANGER !

When fixing the motor drive mechanism to the transformer tank stress and bending of
the protective cabinet is not allowed.

Depending on the type of the connecting elements there are two possible variants:

Variant I protective pipes. In this variant inclination of the vertical shaft is not
permitted. It is recommended as protection against frosting.

Variant II protective cap. In this variant the admissible inclination of the vertical
shaft is 25
0
.

All overall and mounting dimensions of the motor drive mechanism, the bevel gear
and the connecting elements are given in Enclosure Z-4.4/07. By means of four
openings the motor drive mechanism is mounted on the transformer tank. For
decreasing the vibrations it is recommended placing leather or rubber pads. The
fixing bolts should be secured against self-unscrewing.

8. Coupling of the motor drive mechanism to the OLTC

ATTENTION!

The motor drive mechanism should be fixed in a position corresponding to the
position of the OLTC, and the motor drive mechanism OLTC should be in normal
position.

INSTRUCTION
FOR MOUNTING,OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF
MOTOR DRIVE MECHANISM TYPE Z - 4.4
EA 747 e
Page 17 / 20

DANGER!

Before starting the coupling procedure, check whether the protective circuit-
breaker ( QFM ) of the motor is switched off, in order to avoid unexpected starting of
the electric motor.

The bolts of the bevel gear are released in such a way as to make it possible the
gear to be lifted in order to be coupled with the vertical shaft. If protective pipes are
used it is required that they enter telescopically one into another in order to provide
access for mounting of the upper cardan coupler.

For determining the correct coordination of the motor drive mechanism with the
OLTC it is necessary to make several manual switching operations. The hand crank
turns in direction raise. The revolutions of the hand crank counted from the moment
of switching of the diverter switch of the OLTC until reaching normal position.
Analogical counting is done in direction lower as well. The counted number of
revolutions in both directions should be equal.
The moment (number of revolutions) of the switching of the diverter switch for the
whole range of regulation in both directions is checked and the results are compared
with the recommended in the passport limits. If there is incompliance the following is
done:

- the upper cardan coupler of the vertical shaft is released, after which the hand
crank is turned in direction, in which the greater number of revolutions have been
counted until the outgoing shaft is turned to half of the difference of the revolutions
counted in both directions. For example:

- Additional movement of the vertical shaft (hand crank) when turning in direction
raise 4 revolutions;

- Additional movement of the vertical shaft when turning in direction lower 2
revolutions;

Correction: (4 - 2) / 2 = 1 revolution in direction raise.

After this adjustment has been made it is permitted switching over with the electrical
motor.

Attention!

When the OLTC and the motor drive mechanism are delivered locked and sealed
adjustment during coupling is not performed.

9. Commissioning

Before power supplying to the circuits of the motor, to the controlling and auxiliary
circuits, it is checked whether the voltage, the current and the power of the supply
correspond to the required values. It is obligatory that the phase sequence of the
supply is checked.

9.1. Checking of step action

The switch S3 is turned to position local. A command impulse is given with the
starting switch SL-R and is held in this position until the motor stops. The motor
should switch off after the OLTC makes one changing over.

9.2. Functional check of the end breakers

The OLTC is brought to one of the end positions. When supplying a control impulse
in the same direction, the motor drive mechanism should not react, while when
supplying an impulse in the opposite direction, it should start. For the other end
breaker the same procedure is repeated.

10. Technical maintenance

The maintenance of the motor drive mechanism is performed by qualified personnel.

The maintenance consists of periodical control of the action and condition of the
following elements:

DANGER!

The control checks of elements under items 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4 are performed
when power supply voltage is available. All rules for safety at work should be
observed!
10.1. Manual drive locking breaker Q3.

When placing the hand crank and mechanical coupling the power supply to the
electric motor should be impossible.

10.2. Condition of the commutator
The correct contact of the contact elements and the action of the circuit breaker for
dead positions are checked.

10.3. End electrical and mechanical interlocks

The revolutions from the end normal position to its activation are counted and
compared with the recommended in the passport norms.
10.4. Heating

The hygrostat is set to 35% humidity. For additional settings, follow the instructions
below:

The setting procedure can begin 20 seconds after the original feeding of electric
power.

Setting of threshold humidity level:

Wait until you see on the display the percent humidity value measured at the
moment. While the value is still on the screen, press the or button. After this,
the figure 60.0 should start blinking. By pressing the and buttons, you can set
the humidity level at the moment of switching to the desired value. If fast setting is
necessary, press and hold the corresponding button ( or ); after 5 seconds, the
value starts changing more rapidly. In order to save your settings, press once.
10.5. Counter

Checked is the work by trial switching operations.

10.6. Controller S11/S12 (MZ-4.4/05)
In normal position the four contacts should be opened, and roll 50 to be in middle
position. When turning disc 34 the corresponding two contacts should close, and at
the end of the cycle roll 50 should return back in middle position.

10.7. Clearances

The shafts of the work positions indicator and the disc for normal position should
have not any inadmissible side clearances.

10.8. Sealing of the door
The sealing of the door is checked for irregular deformations and if necessary the
tightening handles are adjusted or the sealing is changed with a new one.

10.9. Ventilation openings
Periodically the ventilation openings of the protective cabinet are checked and
cleaned.
11. Special designs

For satisfying specific operating requirements the design can be modified as follows:

- Level of protection of the protective cabinet 65;

- Locking of the protective cabinet with a padlock;

- Coating of the protective cabinet ( RAL ) custom-made to clients requirements;

-Plate with openings and cable inlets (type and dimensions) custom-made to
clients requirements;

-Number of middle positions ( 1 ) and automatic passing through one or
more positions.
