OmniStar

8 headend equipment
and the SNMP interface used by an element management or network
management system. Cable operators can deploy several LIFEnet
software stations throughout their network to bring SNMP status and
control to a headend, hub or Network Operations Center (NOC).
LIFEnet also acts as an intelligent polling and discovery application. It
automatically discovers all system devices and collects them in a
single inventory table. As alarms occur, LIFEnet delivers SNMP traps
and necessary inventory information so the exact device that needs
attention can be pinpointed. Because LIFEnet also performs its own
device lifetesting, EMS or NMS systems can rely on LIFEnet, rather
than polling system devices individually. This reduces both network
traffic and EMS/NMS development.
The LIFEnet software can run on a 1RU, NEBS compliant, rack
mountable PC (available from Motorola) or on a dedicated personal
computer (PC) using either Microsoft Windows
2000 or Microsoft
Windows NT
Workstation 4.0.
