MESSAGE FROM MRS. KENNAUGH

Our painting the playground event is happening tomorrow
(Saturday, Sept 20), and we are still in need of volunteers.
If you havent yet signed up and can donate any amount of
time between 9:00-2:00 tomorrow, please come to
playground. We will be out back, on our blacktop and
sidewalks, repainting faded lines that are so important to
our Peaceful Playground initiativewhich means, in
reality, the painting is important to your child! We
appreciate any amount of volunteering you can provide.
Thank you in advance!

Our school is now a School-wide Title I building.
Historically, we have always qualified as a Title I
building; a building qualifies for these federal funds based
on the percentage of free and reduced lunch within the
building. Because we are above forty percent, we were
able to complete a year-long study and be approved for
School-wide status. This status is important because it
allows for flexibility in who receives additional support
from our Title I staff. It is important that we maintain our
status, so I encourage you to fill out and return a free &
reduced lunch application if you have not yet done so.

There is no stigma attached to receiving that
benefit--our staff is not even aware of who receives
the supportyet, returning those forms is important
to not only individual children, but to our building
as a whole. If you need a form, please contact the
office.

Next week, we will study our current academic
data by grade level to determine which students
may need additional academic support and how best
to provide that support. This is common practice
and is completed several times a year, as it is
important to help advance student achievement up
to benchmark and then exit them from the services
so that other students in need may receive support.

I am thrilled to announce our new Dean of Students
has been hired. Lisa Robson has accepted the
position and will transition into it beginning next
week. She has been dedicated to our students and
staff for many years and is a great fit for that
position and our building. Congratulations Lisa.
I look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow for
our painting experience!

As always, if you have any questions or would like
to discuss any concerns, please contact me.
