INTRODUCTION
Schools and Community bring together many
partners to offer a range of supports and
opportunities to children, youth, families and
communities. artners !or" to achie#e these
results$ Children are ready to enter school%
students attend school consistently% students are
acti#ely in#ol#ed in learning and their community%
families are increasingly in#ol#ed !ith their
children&s education% schools are engaged !ith
families and communities% students succeed
academically% students are healthy ' physically,
socially, and emotionally% students li#e and learn in
a safe, supporti#e, and stable en#ironment, and
communities are desirable places to li#e.

shares common #alues. The !ord . Community/ is
deri#ed from the Old 2rench Comurete !hich is
deri#ed from the )atin Communities - from )atin
Communies , things held in common0. This
community is defined as ./ a group or net!or" of
persons !ho are connected - ob3ecti#ely 0 to each
other by relate#ily durable social relations that
e4tend beyond immediate genelogical this, and !ho
mutually define that relationship - sub3ecte#ely0 as
important to their social identity and social
practice5

* child/s acti#ities begin from home and he

informally from his companions during play or in
company of other children in the school.
*fter!ards he tries to "no! cultural traditions from
the elders in society or family and he moulds his
beha#iour accordingly. During this process the
child also e4periences the conse6uences of going
against the precedences of the society and that
"no!ledge acts as a social control on him. It is the
duty of the society to gi#e them "no!ledge of the
rights, duties and responsibilities of a good citi1en
by educating them.
Close relationship bet!een the school and society
is all the more necessary because all societies
cannot pro#ide e6ual facilities for the de#elopment
of children. The means of e#ery society are
different according to circumstances. Similarly, the
capacity of all the schools is not the same. Se#eral
short comings regarding the a#ailability of means
may be remo#ed through mutual Co-operation between
school and society. Schools may be made centres of social
programmes with this co-operation for providing healthy
recreation for adults. Adults , too, may help in the same way in
providing education in agriculture and other allied arts. The
school should gather information regarding the availability of
means and material concerning education. For example, the
school manager should find out agricultural land, open land,
houses, vocational institutions, gardens and par and social
worers.

In our School D.:.N.S.S (.S.S oo#attoor there
obser#ed the *nti Drugs day on 3une <= <>?@. On that
day a seminar !as organi1ed by our School. *ll the
parents, students and the community members are
in#ited for the seminar. The presenter !as the SI of
police at the uthoor olice Station. (e ga#e a nice
speech on the ill effects of drugs usage. It !as a nice
seminar.

functioning of the school, it is necessary for it to
