Guide lines for M.Tech Project

Project Seminar- I&II (II year I semester )

There shall be two project seminars during II year I semester. For the first seminar,a
student identifies the research area of interest in his specialization and will request the head
of dept/PG coordinator to allot a supervisor for guiding the dissertation. After initial
discussions with the supervisor student chooses the topic and collect the literature on a topic
and critically review the literature. Student shall submit a report along with problem
statement and objectives of dissertation to the guide for his perusal and suggestions for
improvement, if required. By this time the student should have also prepared the schedule of
the project work. After final preparation of his presentation the student will make an oral
presentation before entire class and the Departmental Committee, which shall consist of the
Head of the Department, a senior Faculty Member and the Supervisor.
b).A student has to submit a literature survey report as per the enclosed format and also a
report. The students have to submit the referred papers for survey either Hard copy/
softcopy.

In the second seminar, a student will work out the methodology and carry out
experiments/ modeling /simulation etc and formulate performance metrics for project work.
The student will present the methodology and results of experiments / modeling /simulation.
Further investigations required to be conducted are also projected in his presentation.
Discussions will follow the presentation and his performance is evaluated and recorded to
facilitate awarding of marks.


Project seminar- III&IV (II year II semester )

There shall be two project seminars during II year II semester. In the third seminar, a student
will present final results of his work. He will prepare draft of his research paper for
publication based on project work.
In the fourth seminar, a student will present his entire work along with contributions made
by him/her of his work . He will prepare draft copy of his dissertation.

V.Project dissertation

A candidate is permitted to submit Project Dissertation only after successful completion
of PG subjects (theory and practical), seminars, Comprehensive viva-voce, PG Project
PartI, and after the approval of PRC, not earlier than 40 weeks from the date of
registration of the project work. For the approval of PRC the candidate shall submit the
draft copy of thesis to the Head of the Department and shall make an oral presentation
before the PRC. Along with the draft thesis the candidate shall submit draft copy of a
paper in standard format fit for publication in Journal / Conference, based on the project
thesis, to the Head of the Department with due recommendation of the supervisor.

1.Five copies of the Project Dissertation certified by the Supervisor and Head of the
Department shall be submitted to the College.

2. The dissertation shall be adjudicated by one examiner selected by the College. For
this, Head of Department shall submit a panel of 3 examiners, who are eminent in
that field, with the help of the PRC. The Chief Superintendent of the college in
consultation with the college academic committee shall nominate the examiner.

3. If the report of the examiner is not favourable, the candidate shall revise and
resubmit the Dissertation, in the time frame as prescribed by PRC. If the report of
the examiner is unfavourable again, the thesis shall be summarily rejected. The
candidate can re-register only once for conduct of project and evaluation of
Dissertation, and will go through the entire process as mentioned above. The total
duration for the M.Tech program is limited to four years.

4. If the report of the examiner is favourable, viva-voce examination shall be
conducted by a Board consisting of the Head of the Department, Supervisor
and the Examiner who adjudicated the Dissertation. The Board shall jointly
report the students performance in the project work as (a) Excellent, or (b)
Good, or (c) Satisfactory, or (d) Unsatisfactory, as the case may be. In case,
the student fails in the viva-voce examination, or gets the Unsatisfactory
grade, he can re-appear only once for the viva-voce examination, as per the
recommendations of the Board. If he fails at the second viva-voce
examination, the candidate can re-register only once for conduct of project and
evaluation of Dissertation, and will go through the entire process as mentioned
above. The total duration for the M.Tech program is limited to four years.


Guide lines for M.Tech Thesis submision
1.REVIEW OF PROGRESS OF PROJECT WORK:
For the purpose of monitoring the progress of project, all the M.Tech candidates are required
to attend Project Review Meetings (PRM) and make power point presentations as on when
they are conducted. At the time of PRM, students should submit hard copies of their project
progress in duplicate, in prescribed format with Supervisor and Co supervisor signatures.
Additionally, tangible output if any, such as: Journal Publications/Presentations in a
Conference/ Poster Presentation in a Seminar/ Conference or a Patent, etc. should be
submitted. For the PRMs, the presence of Supervisor or Co-supervisor of the candidate
should be mandatory;
If the student has not attend two consecutive meetings or if the reports are not satisfactory in
two consequent meetings, the student is not eligible for submission of M.Tech Thesis.
A candidate has to successfully complete two PRMs with satisfactory report before
Colloquium.

2.COMPULSORY SEMINAR PRIOR TO THESIS SUBMISSION (COLLOQUIUM):

Each candidate shall present one seminar. The seminar should be at least one month before
submission of thesis in the concerned Department on the project work, carried out by
him/her. The PG student should submit synopsis copy to DRC highlighting
original/significant contributions made in the project work. The candidates are expected to
make a PPT presentation about the project work done by them. The DRC is empowered to
accept the work student for submission or may advise to revise/reappear with modification
made. The seminar will be open to all Faculty members and other M.Tech students.

3. PUBLISHING PROJECT WORK IN INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OR
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE.
Student has to present/ publish his/her M.Tech project work in any International
conference or any International journal .

4. PREPARATION OF THE THESIS / DISSERTATION PLAGIARISM CHECK
For ensuring originality of submitted content, the thesis will be checked by anti-plagiarism
software. After completion of Colloquium a soft copy of thesis in word format should be
brought along in person to ECE department and have it checked before binding and sending it
to the evaluation section. If any text strings/figures are found to be copied or dubious without
proper acknowledgement of the source, the thesis has to be thoroughly revised. In such event
the revised soft copy of the CD must be submitted within one month from the date of
checking with antiplagiarism service. The stipulated percentage permissible includes the
candidates own publications and presentations. A soft copy of the thesis must also be
submitted with all the modifications and corrections made in the thesis after Colloquium and
anti-plagiarism check.
NOTE:For every seminar student has to submit the report to DRC by sending soft
copy to the pgeceseminars@gmail.com. The students who are not submitted before due
date are not eligible for seminar presentation.
