1A) Home Office-
From 31st March 2009 ALL International students wishing to study in the UK must meet the Home Office
criteria, full details can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-visas-and-
immigration We strongly recommend you check that you meet the criteria as all deposits paid are
strictly non-refundable. Some are listed here:
a) You must satisfy the Points Based System - have enough funds for your course of study and your
living allowances for the duration of your stay- for further information on financial statements that are
accepted by the Home Office please go to:-
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/immigration-rules-appendix-p
b) You must meet the standards required for English Language
c) You must have a sponsoring college
d) You must meet the attendance requirements
e) You must provide confirmation of your accommodation during your stay in the UK. You must be
available to be contacted during your stay in the UK

If a Tier 4 (General) student will be studying a course that is below degree level, we must ensure that
they are competent in English language. All students who wish to study the Officer of Watch course and
Chief Mates course must provide a copy of their IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
certificate, however if students are unable to get an appointment for an IELTS we will accept a copy of a
PTE (Pearson Test Of English Academic) online score report. All of these tests are valid for 2 years, so at
the time of booking, we need to check that the certificate/online score report will be valid at
enrolment. Students will not be issued a CAS without a valid IELTS certificate or PTE Academic online
score report.

If a student is using an IELTS test to prove they are competent in English Language, they must score a
minimum grade of 4.0 in each of the following elements, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. For
further information regarding test dates and your local test centre, please go to the IELTS website
http://www.ielts.org/default.aspx

If a student is using a PTE Academic test to prove they are competent in English Language, they must
score a minimum grade of 36 in each of the following elements, Listening, Reading, Writing and
Speaking. For further details on how to book this test, please go the PTE website
http://pearsonpte.com/TestMe/About/Pages/HowtousePTEAcademicwithUKBA.aspx
Students using this test will not receive a physical paper certificate, so instead must provide a print out of
their online score report. Tier 4 (General) students will also need to ensure that they have made their
online results available to the Home Office listing on the Pearson verification service on the Pearson
website. Where a Tier 4 (General) student fails to do this the Home Office will not be able to accept this
English Language Test.

Please ensure that you submit the required documentation when applying for your visa as the college
cannot be held responsible if your visa is refused due to you not meeting the requirements, and we
cannot guarantee that you will be issued with a new CAS for the same course date.

1B) EU students - If you are applying to the Student Loan Company for tuition fee loan/grant we advise
you do this before the start date of your course. Please note tuition fee loans/grants are paid direct to
the College and may be used for statutory HE fees only, i.e. cannot be used to fund any short
courses. Please refer to the SLC website where full information is available on fee loans/grants and
maintenance awards www.slc.co.uk
If an AUTHORISED company is paying your fees we do not require a deposit, but will need written
confirmation by fax or letter from your sponsor stating their intention to pay.
