Work Experience
United States Peace Corps, Belize

Technical Trainer, August, 2009-November 2009-Responsible for the design,


implementation, and management of Pre-Service Training curriculum for a training
cycle of Peace Corps Volunteers in Belize, Central America.

• Planned and developed a Community Based Technical training program for


incoming Peace Corps Volunteers to Belize that addressed the knowledge,
skills, and attitudes the agency expected them to acquire prior to service.

• Implemented evaluation tools designed to monitor trainee performance and


assess overall technical training.

• Designed and facilitated technical training sessions that, based on the Peace
Corps project framework trained participants on a broad range of topics
including but not limited to, community needs assessment, project design
and management, and cross cultural competency.

Court Appointed Special Advocates for Foster Children, New Orleans,


Louisiana

Recruiter/Trainer, June 2008-Present- Responsible for the recruitment and


training of volunteers for the New Orleans Chapter of a National Non-Profit that
serves the needs of at-risk youth in the Foster Care system.

• Recruited and trained over 90 new Volunteer Advocates for the agency
recruited from a database of over 300 contacts of individuals who expressed
interest in the program.

• Facilitated 5 Training classes each consisting of a month-long curriculum


that prepared volunteers for their advocacy. Led sessions dealing with a
wide range of topics related to youth ranging from child abuse and neglect
to Early Childhood Development and engagement strategies for teens.

• Converted the training curriculum and manuals to an electronic format that
improved upon service delivery. Restructured training curriculum to improve
upon its relevance and efficacy for volunteers.

• Designed and initiated a Peer Support Network for the agency to increase
volunteer retention and involvement in agency affairs. Designed and
facilitated a Mentor training for volunteers to achieve this purpose.

• Made connections with local professionals and experts to organize In Service


Training for a base of over 100 volunteers. Conducted a training needs
assessment with volunteers to design a continuing education curriculum.
Facilitated over 8 In service training sessions for volunteers.

United States Peace Corps, Costa Rica

Rural Community Development , Feb. 2006- May 2008- Lived and worked in a
rural community in Costa Rica for 27 months as a US Peace Corps Volunteer.
Initiated, designed and managed diverse development projects derived from
grassroots community organizing and Peace Corps’ participatory methods of needs
assessment. All work was conducted in Spanish.

• Trained local entrepreneurs in business skills and best practices to allow


them to expand their traditional bakery and open their own businesses.
Worked with trainees to receive two grants from the Pan American Health
Organization for the construction and outfitting of the local bakery; grant
monies totaled over $7000.

• Created and organized a local health committee; petitioned and secured the
funding from the Costa Rican Ministry of Health for the construction of a
community nutrition clinic valued at over $40,000. Created a program to
work with local mothers on nutrition and life-skills trainings for their children.

• Raised over $4,000 in local and foreign donations to renovate the local water
system and improve potable water delivery systems in the community.

• Collaborated with municipal government representatives and international


NGO´s on needs-assessment activities to map out future development
projects in the community and the region.
