KV DC voltage was applied to each phase with the other two phases grounded for
a period of 10 minutes to determine the absorption ratio of the winding insulation. Specific time intervals
were recorded during this initial absorption ratio, the important readings are at 1, 3.16, and 10 minutes.
The absorption ratio is then used to determine the time schedule for the step voltage test (Scheif method).
These test results using this method are the same as would be obtained by applying each step voltage level
to the winding for 10 minutes as individual tests.
