Course Description
CHEM 2311 is one semester organic chemistry course designed for non major
chemistry students. This short course will provide biology, medicine, education
science, environmental chemistry and other science students with broad overview of
organic chemistry principles with an emphasis on the basic major principles of
organic chemistry. In this course, students learn to recognize and name all organic
functional groups. Students learn about systems to represent organic molecules, how
structure affects physical properties, drawing resonance forms with proper arrow
convention and the important reactions and mechanisms in organic chemistry
(Addition and substitution and elimination reactions) and stereochemistry. The
students studying this course will learn some new knowledge about the important of
organic chemistry and its applications in life.
