FEDERICO BUENO
Bro. Bueno was in Jerusalem for three
weeks studying "The Geographical and His
torical Setting of the Bible" at Institute
of Holy Land Studies. The course began on
March 13. We received one post card from
him, mailed from Jerusalem.
Bro. Bueno wrote to us on April 15 from
Aparri, and we quote from his letter^.
"It's nice to be home again after hav
ing been away from home for a whole month!
I am happy for having again this opportuni
ty to express to you my heartfelt gratitude
for the many blessings the Lord has given
me, and the unsurpassed helps you have ex
tended to Hie making my trip to the Holy
Land possible, which I could not make by my
own resources I thank the Lord for
His blessings and guidance throughout the
entire period of my trip to Israel that I
was able to overcome some problems which I
encountered.
"I left the Philippines on March 11,
but my trip to Israel was delayed one night
in Hong Kong We arrived in Tel Aviv
on Friday night, March 13. I missed the
first day of my classes, which started on
that day.

"I was very busy during the days of
classes and free days in the Institute
working with the Student Manual Maps and
Syllabus Maps which I was not able to re
ceive. and finish while in the Philippines,
I was not able to use some of my free days
in visiting some places in Jerusalem and
nearby places. Nevertheless, I was able to
finish all my assignments, to attend all
the classes, preview lectures, and all the
thirteen whole day field trips. We are
able to explore the whole land, "from Beer^
sheva to Dan" from Negev in the South to
the Golan Heights in the North. I am so
fascinated and surprised to see Bible
places in different Tels in Israel proving
the undeniable facts of the Bible!
"I left Israel on April 6 and arrived
Manila on April 8. Well, I am really
blessed with this wonderful and exciting
trip to the Holy Land. I leamed a lot of
experiences which I could not gain by read
ing books. I really learned a lot which
surely help me to serve the Lord more ef
fectively for His glory.
"Again, I want to express my undying
thanks to you and all the brethren there
who extended their financial and spiritual
supports. Sir and Ma'am, may you relay
also to them my thanks. I wish I see and
know them personally, nevertheless I trust
you very much in relaying my sincere re
quest. Thank you so much, you, are really
so good to me! And most of all, I thank
the Lord for His bountiful blessings.
"May God shower His blessings to you!
SHALOM!"
NOTES BY HELEN
My good friend, Roberta Selby of Apar-
ri, Philippines pointed out a scripture to
me in Romans 15:13. I pass it on to you,
my good friends, because it is a great
thought: "Now the God of hope fill you
with all joy and peace in believing, that
ye may abound (overflow) in hope, in the
power of the Holy Spirit."
When we get moved to Atascadero we want
you to come and see us. We can provide
"bed and breakfast" when you are on your
way to San Francisco. Take Santa Rosa Road
exit from 101 Freeway and go west to 8455
Santa Rosa Road. Also we would love your
letters: Box 6032, Atascadero, CA 92423.-
THE GARDEN OF EDEN
While working in my gardeni I got to
thinking about Adam and Eve in the Garden
of Eden. Their work was to till the garden
and to keep it. Gardening was man's first
occupation. In that garden God placed
every tree that is pleasant to the sight
and good for food. If we are right in sup
posing that the earth had a uniform climate
without seasonal changes, then the trees
must have borne fruit the year around.
I have enjoyed working in my garden.
It is outdoor work, it gives good exercise,
and one sees the trees produce their fruit
and the flowers bloom. Adam and Eve were
in a beautiful place, and the rules were
not hard to keep. But the serpent with his
lies made Eve think she should eat for for
bidden fruit, and she did. The serpent
promised that her eyes would be opened and
she would be like God, knowing good and
evil, Adam ate it, too, when Eve offered
it to him.
Yes, their eyes were openedand they
knew that they were naked! Before the dis
obedience, they had known only good. Now
they knew both good and evil, and the re
sults were not pleasant, "How will we get
clothes? Ah, there is the fig tree with
its large leaves!" So the aprons were
made. "What will we do when God comes to
see us? Let^s hide in the bushes." So
they hid, but God soon found them, and pun
ishment followed.
There are those who think Genesis 3 is
just a myth or legend. But it really is a
true history, of the marring of God's beau
tiful creation by sin, Jesus probably had
Genesis 3 in mind when He said of the
devil, "He was a murderer from the begin
ning, and standeth not in the truth, he-
cause there is no truth in him." (Jn. 8:44)
Paul refers to Genesis 3 again and again in
Romans, Corinthians and Galatians. (See
Rom. 5:14-19; 8:20-22; II Cor. 11:3; Gal.
4:4, 26; et al.) If Christ and the Apos
tles accepted Genesis 3 as true history,
who are we to say it is not? The Bible is
true in all its historical details, and is
completely trustworthy. WHB
