ACTS Communities

Memorial Lutheran ACTS Communities are small groups of individuals and families
gathered around local missions. They are a great place to build relationships and learn how
to live a life of mission right where you are. One of these groups is called H.Y.P. (Helping
Young Parents) and they are starting a cooking class for teen parents throughout the Katy
district. They are meeting in the Loomis Center kitchen on Tuesday September 16
th
from 6-
8pm for their first class. It is "Fiesta Night". They could use donations of $5-$10 gift cards
to any local grocery stores which they will be giving to class members so they can replicate
the meals they learn in class later with their families. Card donations for HYP can be left at
the front office or given directly to April & Nathan whom you may contact for more
information.

music time where they learn songs to sing in church. The first time they sing will be September 28

the 10:45 am service for Ryan Legler's installation. They will be singing a song from VBS this past year
called "Walk Humbly". All kids are welcome!

he leads an in-depth study of the book of Proverbs, digging deep into the Wisdom of Solomon. Dont worry if
youve missed the first couple classes there is plenty of room for anyone interested. The course meets in the
Welcome Center classrooms.

Sunday School This Week

This week as our kids dive into the book of Genesis they will be exploring the story of
the tower of Babel. Kid's should bring Bibles with them to class as well as their
passports they have been given. Also they were given memory work challenges for the
first month. They were encouraged to memorize Genesis 1:27 and the First Article of
the Apostles Creed which states "I believe in God the Father Almighty Maker of Heaven and Earth." Snack in Sunday this week will
be pretzel sticks and marshmallows so please let me know if anyone has allergies. Sunday School is 9:30-10:30 upstairs in the gym
building for pre-k- 5th grade. Nursery age kids (2 and under) meet in the Nursery in the main church building.

Rice Harvest Festival

Each year on the second weekend in October the City of Katy hosts the Rice Harvest Festival. Our
church has a prime location in the center of the festival and as such, we open our Welcome Center
bathrooms, a place to cool down, and a place to pray. We also host a Children's Carnival where the
proceeds are split between missions and youth activities. To do this we need many volunteers and it
is a great opportunity to serve together as a family. Volunteer times are n two hour blocks. 8am-5pm
Saturday and 11am-5pm Sunday. Volunteer roles include monitoring the Welcome Center and directing people to bathrooms as well
as keeping them clean and stocked, praying for individuals, or working the carnival stations. Carnival stations include: snow cones,
dunk booth, lollipop tree, fishing game, ring toss, and bounce house. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Linda Elmore
(281-728-1322 or lelmore@acosta.com) and check out the sign-up sheets in the Welcome Center.

believers and OUT to those who do not yet know Jesus. Included is dinner, family worship, children's
music/games/crafts, Junior High Confirmation classes, and adult Bible studies. This years adult Bible study

Covenant. We look forward to seeing you there!

The Wishing Tree Is Coming!

For many years, Memorial Lutheran Church members have supported a Wishing Tree during
the holiday season. Congregation members nominate families/individuals who could use
some help with presents/food. They can be congregation members, coworkers, relatives,
neighbors, friends, etc. It's hard to believe it's time for nominations again!! If you know of
someone we could bless this upcoming Christmas season with presents/food, please contact
Pastor Davis, Vicar Mike, or Deb Plautz (281-395-4681/bobplautz1@aol.com) by Sunday, October.19.

Other things congregation members can do NOW to help make the Wishing Tree successful:
--bring your unused coupons from Sunday's paper and put them in the box by the elevator. I will use them to buy food for the
families.
--ask for "paper" when you grocery shop and put the bags in the box by the elevator. I NEED AT LEAST 200 BAGS FOR THE
FOOD GIVEN OUT.
