GOALS:

To provide students with relevant knowledge and understand about structure and function in order to
enable the students to apply the knowledge and skills in teaching profession.

LEARNING OUTCOMES :

At the end of the course, students should be able to :

1. Organise experiments on animal and plant functions. (plo1, c5)
2. Combine various technical skills in solving problems concerning body organization transport
system, maintenance system and nervous system. (plo2, p5)
3. Solve the problems in structure and function using effective strategies. (plo4, a4)


SYNOPSIS:

This course discusses:The body organization, level of biological organization; Types of animal
tissues; Organs and organ systems in animals; plants organization. plant growth and development.
Transport system, circulatory and defend systems, types of circulatory system, comparison of
circulatory system among vertebrates, blood component and composition, haemostasis, types of body
defence, lymph system and function in immunity, types of white blood cell, immunity formation,
antigen-antibody action. Maintenance system, respiratory system in animals; adaptations for gaseous
exchange; The human respiratory system;transport and internal exchange of gases;the plants
respiratory system, osmoregulation.digestive system;human digestive system;absorption and
transport of nutrients. photosynthesis, carbon metabolism.Nervous system,nervous system;human
nervous system;neurons;the nerve impulse;central nervous system;autonomic nervous system.
Hormones and chemical coordination,hormones: mechanisms of action; human hormones: male
human hormones: female; types of human hormones. plant hormones; types of plant hormones.
Reproduction in animals, asexual and sexual reproduction; parts of the reproductive system; human
reproduction; male reproductive system; female reproductive system; how the reproductive system
functions. Reproduction and development in flowering plant,the flowering plant life cycle; parts of
flower; development of female and gametophyte; fertilization; embryonic development,Seed and
fruit development;dispersal of seeds and fruits;seed germination.

CHAPTER CONTENTS
