Workshop Overview

Looking at the importance of the smart grid and renewable energy


resources integration for Qatar, this workshop is planned to further
explore the viability of various related technologies . This workshop
will convene leading researchers and stakeholders from international
research institutions, universities, and other private sector R&D pro-
grams to exchange information on medium to long-term smart grid and
renewable energies research agenda, progress, and future challenges.

Renewable energy resources: current status and future prospects
Integration of large, utility-scale renewable energy into the smart
grid
Integration of energy storages into the smart grid
Electric vehicle integration into the smart grid
Smart grids communications architectures and solutions
Demand response and demand management
Energy optimization and dynamic trading
Information and communications technologies (ICT) and their
adoption in the smart grid
Advanced metering infrastructure
Smart grid security
Economic models, price management and domestic energy mar-
ket interactions
Privacy and cybersecurity in energy trading
Power line communications
Standardization in smart grids
Workshop Structure
The workshop will feature:
Keynotes by invited experts
Focus group sessions by invited experts
Posters and presentations
Input and comments by participants
Call for Papers
Interested authors are invited to submit a full paper (six pages maxi-
mum in IEEE format). Papers should describe original work and pre-
viously unpublished results. Submissions will be judged on originality,
technical strength, signifcance and relevance to the workshop. Papers
will be included in IEEE Xplore. Submit online at www.sgre2015.com.
Important Dates
Paper submission deadline: 15 November 2014
Paper result notifcation: 31 December 2014
Final camera-ready submission: 31 January 2015

IEEE member: $550
IEEE IES member: $520
Student: $450
The registration fee includes up to two paper submissions, attendance
at all workshop sessions, workshop materials, lunches, coffee breaks
and a gala dinner.
